Federated Learning has emerged as a revolutionary innovation in the evolving landscape of global healthcare, fostering collaboration among institutions and facilitating collaborative data analysis. As practical applications continue to proliferate, numerous federations have formed in different regions. The optimization and sustainable development of federation-pretrained models have emerged as new challenges. These challenges primarily encompass privacy, population shift and data dependency, which may lead to severe consequences such as the leakage of sensitive information within models and training samples, unfair model performance and resource burdens. To tackle these issues, we propose FairFusion, a cross-federation model fusion approach that enhances privacy and fairness. FairFusion operates across federations within a Model Trip paradigm, integrating knowledge from diverse federations to continually enhance model performance. Through federated model fusion, multi-objective quantification and optimization, FairFusion obtains trustworthy solutions that excel in utility, privacy and fairness. We conduct comprehensive experiments on three public real-world healthcare datasets. The results demonstrate that FairFusion achieves outstanding model fusion performance in terms of utility and fairness across various model structures and subgroups with sensitive attributes while guaranteeing model privacy. © 2024 IEEE.

Microbial vanadate(V(V))reduction is a key process for environmental geochemistry and detoxification of vanadium(V).However,the electron transfer pathways and V isotope fractionation involved in this process are not yet fully *** this study,the V(V)reduction mechanisms with concomitant V isotope fractionation by the Gram-positive bacterium Bacillus subtilis(***)and the Gramnegative bacterium Thauera humireducens(***)were *** strains could effectively reduce V(V),removing(90.5%±1.6%)and(93.0%±1.8%)of V(V)respectively from an initial concentration of 50 mg L^(-1) during a 10-day incubation period.V(V)was bioreduced to insoluble vanadium(IV),which was distributed both inside and outside the *** transfer via cytochrome C,nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide,and glutathione played critical roles in V(V)*** analysis showed that differentially enriched metabolites(quinone,biotin,and riboflavin)mediated electron transfer in both *** aqueous V in the remaining solution became isotopically heavier as V(V)bioreduction *** obtained V isotope composition dynamics followed a Rayleigh fractionation model,and the isotope enrichment factor(e)was(–0.54‰±0.04‰)for *** and(–0.32‰±0.03‰)for ***,with an insignificant *** study provides molecular insights into electron transfer for V(V)bioreduction and reveals V isotope fractionation during this bioprocess,which is helpful for understanding V biogeochemistry and developing novel strategies for V remediation.

This study aimed to explore the effects of glutamate(Glu)supplementation on the growth performance,carcass traits,meat quality,composition of amino acids and fatty acids in the longissimus dorsi muscle,and the colonic microbial community of Shaziling pigs.A total of 48 healthy male Shaziling pigs(150 d,31.56±0.95 kg)were randomly assigned to two groups,and fed a basal diet with no supplement(control group)or supplemented with 1%Glu(Glu group)for 51 d,and 6 pigs per group were finally *** significantly increased the average daily gain(P=0.039),lean percentage(P=0.023),and intramuscular fat(IMF)content(P=0.015),and decreased the fat percentage(P=0.021)of Shaziling *** the muscle,Glu increased the concentrations of inosine-50-monophosphate(P=0.094),Fe(P=0.002),Cu(P=0.052),and monounsaturated fatty acids(MUFAs)(P=0.024),and decreased the content of C18:2n6(P=0.011),n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids(n-6 PUFAs)(P=0.014),and PUFAs(P=0.014).Moreover,Glu significantly upregulated the mRNA expression of adipogenesis-related genes(FAS,SREBP-1C)(P=0.032,P=0.026)and muscle growth-related genes(MyHCIIb,MyHCIIx)(P=0.038,P=0.019)in the muscle,and increased the relative abundance of Spirochaetota(P<0.001)and the acetic acid content in the colon(P=0.039).Correlation analysis indicated that the acetic acid content was positively correlated with the relative Spirochaetota abundance and the IMF content,and a negative trend with the fat percentage of Shaziling *** conclusion,these results indicated that Glu could simultaneously increase the lean percentage and IMF content and decrease the fat percentage of Shaziling pigs,and these beneficial effects may be related to increased colonic Spirochaetota abundance and acetic acid concentrations.

In the conventional continuum mechanics theory, the strain energy density function at the point of the medium material only depends on the classical strain, and the medium is modeled as an ideal continuum. For the isotropic medium, has no internal structure, no additional internal degrees of freedom, and no internal characteristic scales, therefore, applying the law of conservation of moment of momentum will inevitably lead to the conclusion that shear stress is equivalent. However, all media have extremely complicated microstructures, it is not suitable to describe the more complex interactions occurring in generalized continua by means of the sole Cauchy stress tensor. Wang derived and gave the mathematical expression of the second-order strain gradient asymmetric elastic wave equation from the nonlocal theory. The derived wave equation can describe the smaller spatial scale effects with the particle diameter of the constituent medium as the neighborhood of seismic wave propagation, caused by the heterogeneity from the micro-structure interactions. Considering that the smaller spatial scale effect is weak, the numerical dispersion generated when the difference operator approximates the differential operator can suppress the scale effect. Therefore, in order to better describe and analyze the scale effects, the finite difference operator needs to be optimized. This paper proposes an improved BWOA algorithm to obtain the optimized finite difference coefficients and conducts numerical modelling based on the second-order strain gradient asymmetric elastic wave equation. Through numerical modelling analysis, it is shown that the numerical dispersion is well suppressed, and the smaller spatial scale effects can be obviously observed and extracted from the seismograms. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

The Earth's climate operates as a complex,dynamically interconnected system,driven by both anthropogenic and natural forcings and modulated by nonlinear interactions and feedback *** study employs a theoretical framework and the Eigen Microstate(EM)approach of statistical physics to examine global surface temperature variations since 1948,as revealed by a global *** identified EMs significantly correlated with key climate phenomena such as the global monsoon system,tropical climates,and El Niñ*** analysis reveals that these EMs have increasingly influenced global surface temperature variations over recent decades,highlighting the critical roles of hemispheric differences,land-sea contrasts,and tropical climate fluctuations in a warming ***,we used model simulations from more than 10 Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6(CMIP6)under three future climate scenarios to perform a comparative analysis of the changes in each EM *** results indicate that under future warming scenarios,tropical climate fluctuations will become increasingly dominant,while traditional hemispheric and monsoonal patterns may *** shift underscores the importance of understanding tropical dynamics and their impact on global climate from a physics-based *** study provides a new perspective on understanding and addressing global climate change,enhancing the theoretical foundation of this critical field,and yielding findings with significant practical implications for improving climate models and developing effective mitigation and adaptation strategies.

Heat stress-induced mucosal barrier dysfunction is potentially associated with gut microbiota dysbiosis in pigs

Heat stress(HS)can be detrimental to the gut health of *** negative outcomes induced by HS are increasingly recognized as including modulation of intestinal *** turn,the intestinal microbiota is a unique ecosystem playing a critical role in mediating the host stress ***,we aimed to characterize gut microbiota of pigs’exposure to short-term HS,to explore a possible link between the intestinal microbiota and HS-related changes,including serum cytokines,oxidation status,and intestinal epithelial barrier *** findings showed that HS led to intestinal morphological and integrity changes(villus height,serum diamine oxidase[DAO],serum D-lactate and the relative expressions of tight junction proteins),reduction of serum cytokines(interleukin[IL]-8,IL-12,interferongamma[IFN-g]),and antioxidant activity(higher glutathione[GSH]and malondialdehyde[MDA]content,and lower superoxide dismutase[SOD]).Also,16S rRNA sequencing analysis revealed that although there was no difference in microbial a-diversity,some HS-associated composition differences were revealed in the ileum and cecum,which partly led to an imbalance in the production of short-chain fatty acids including propionate acid and valerate *** networks revealed that HS-derived changes in bacterial genera and microbial metabolites,such as Chlamydia,Lactobacillus,Succinivibrio,Bifidobacterium,Lachnoclostridium,and propionic acid,were correlated with oxidative stress,intestinal barrier dysfunction,and inflammation in ***,our observations suggest that intestinal damage induced by HS is probably partly related to the gut microbiota dysbiosis,though the underlying mechanism remains to be fully elucidated.

The accurate analysis of the elemental composition plays a crucial role in the research of functional *** emitting characteristic x-ray fluorescence(XRF)photons can be used for precisely discriminating the specified *** detection accuracy of conventional XRF methodology using semiconductor detector is limited by the energy resolution,thus posing a challenge in accurately scaling the actual energy of each XRF *** adopt a novel high-resolution x-ray spectrometer based on the superconducting transition-edge sensor(TES)for the XRF spectroscopy measurement of different *** including high energy resolution,high detection efficiency and precise linearity of the new spectrometer will bring significant benefits in analyzing elemental composition via *** this paper,we study the Ledge emission line profiles of three adjacent rare earth elements with the evenly mixed sample of their oxide components:terbium,dysprosium and *** orders of magnitude better energy resolution are obtained compared to a commercial silicon drift *** this TES-based spectrometer,the spectral lines overlapped or interfered by background can be clearly distinguished,thus making the chemical component analysis more accurate and quantitative.A database of coefficient values for the line strength of the spectrum can then be constructed *** with the novel XRF spectrometer and an established coefficient database,a direct analysis of the composition proportion of a certain element in an unknown sample can be achieved with high accuracy.
