Corals serve as the foundational habitat-building organisms within reef ecosystems, constructing extensive structures that extend over vast distances. However, their inherent fragility and vulnerability to various threats render them susceptible to significant damage and destruction. The application of advanced 3D reconstruction technologies for high-quality modeling is crucial for preserving them. These technologies help scientists to accurately document and monitor the state of coral reefs, including their structure, species distribution and changes over time. Photogrammetry-based approaches stand out among existing solutions, especially with recent advancements in underwater videography, photogrammetric computer vision, and machine learning. Despite continuous progress in image-based 3D reconstruction techniques, there remains a lack of systematic reviews and comprehensive evaluations of cutting-edge solutions specifically applied to underwater coral reef images. The emerging advanced methods may have difficulty coping with underwater imaging environments, complex coral structures, and computational resource constraints. They need to be reviewed and evaluated to bridge the gap between many cutting-edge technical studies and practical applications. This paper focuses on the two critical stages of these approaches: camera pose estimation and dense surface reconstruction. We systematically review and summarize classical and emerging methods, conducting comprehensive evaluations through real-world and simulated datasets. Based on our findings, we offer reference recommendations and discuss the development potential and challenges of existing approaches in depth. This work equips scientists and managers with a technical foundation and practical guidance for processing underwater coral reef images for 3D reconstruction. These tools facilitate the acquisition of accurate data, enhancing our understanding of the complex coral reef ecosystems while minimizing disturbances

Two-fluid modeling of Geldart A particles in gas-solid micro-fluidized beds

The fiuidization behavior of Geldart A particles in a gas-solid micro-fluidized bed was investigated by Eulerian-Eulerian numerical simulation. The commonly used Gidaspow drag model was tested first. The simulation showed that the predicted minimum bubbling velocities were significantly lower than the experimental data even when an extremely fine grid size （of approximately one particle diameter） was used. The modified Gibilaro drag model was therefore tested next. The predicted minimum bubbling velocity and bed voidage were in reasonable agreement with the experimental data available in literature. The experimentally observed regime transition phenomena from bubbling to slugging were also reproduced successfully in the simulations. Parametric studies indicated that the solid-wall boundary conditions had a significant impact on the predicted gas and solid flow behavior.

Incorrect folding of proteins in the macromolecular crowding environment in living cells would cause cellular disasters. All cells have developed their structurally and functionally distinct classes of molecular chaperones to help normative proteins fold to their native structures, one of which is the most studied GroELIES complex. In the present article, large-scale all-atom explicit solvent molecular dynamics （MD） simulations have been carried out on rhodanese folding in a series of chaperonin mutants for 200ns to understand the mechanism therein. In accordance with experimental results, two factors have been identified to play a significant role, the geometrical confinement effect of the folding cavity and the charge effect of the inner surface of the cavity. Our analysis of the properties during simulation suggests that the GroEL/ES complex directly exerts force on the contacting residues of the substrate, thus assists substrate folding.

Cloud base height (CBH) is crucial for determining cloud radiation effects, and uncertainty in CBH retrieval can lead to significant errors in the estimation of surface downwelling longwave radiation (SDLR) under cloudy-sky conditions. This study proposes a new CBH retrieval model utilizing top-of-atmosphere (TOA) reflectance and brightness temperature observations from the Fengyun-4A (FY-4A) satellite, employing the random forest algorithm. The accurately retrieved CBH is then used to estimate cloudy-sky SDLR, accounting for the radiative effects of the entire cloud layer. The CBH retrieval algorithm relies solely on TOA observations and cloud top parameter information, enabling CBH retrieval even in the absence of cloud optical thickness (COT). The verification results indicate that the newly proposed CBH retrieval algorithm achieves good accuracy, with a bias of −0.19 km and a root-mean-square error (RMSE) of 1.52 km. Compared to existing studies, the new algorithm performs well in both water cloud and ice cloud phases. Based on the accurately retrieved CBH, this study employs an estimation scheme that uses cloud effective temperature to characterize the radiation contribution of the entire cloud layer, enabling accurate estimation of cloudy-sky SDLR. Ground-based measurements from the Baseline Surface Radiation Network (BSRN) and the National Tibetan Plateau Data Center (TPDC) sites were used to validate the SDLR estimation scheme. The results showed that the cloudy-sky SDLR estimated using the retrieved CBH achieved reasonable accuracy, with a bias of 7.15 W/m2 and an RMSE of 27.42 W/m2 © 1980-2012 IEEE.

Modeling of co-current and counter-current bubble columns with an extended EMMS approach

Bubble columns can be operated in semi-batch, co-current or counter-current mode. This study attempts to extend the dual-bubble-size (DBS) model, viz., the energy-minimization multi-scale (EMMS) model for gas-liquid systems, to co-current and counter-current bubble columns. With the increase of superficial liquid velocity, the predicted total gas holdup and regime transition are in accordance with experiments. A DBS drag model was then developed and incorporated into the CFD simulation. The total gas holdup and local gas holdup radial distribution in both the co-current and counter-current bubble columns are well estimated. The findings in the present work demonstrate that developing closure laws through the stability condition is of great significance in modeling complicated multi-scale flow in bubble columns.

Motion control of the human hand is the most complex part of the human *** has always been a challenge for a good balance between the cost,weight,responding speed,grasping force,finger extension,and dexterity of prosthetic *** solve these issues,a 3D-printed cable driven humanoid hand based on bidirectional elastomeric passive transmission(BEPT)is designed in this paper.A semi-static model of BEPT is investigated based on energy conservation law to analyze the mechanical properties of BEPT and a dynamical simulation of finger grasping is *** a good imitation of human hand and an excellent grasping performance,specific BEPT is selected according to human finger grasping *** advantage of BEPT based humanoid hand is that a good balance between the price and performance of the humanoid hand is *** proved that the designed prosthetic hand’s single fingertip force can reach 33 N and the fastest fingertip grasping speed realized 0.6 s/180°.It also has a good force compliance effect with only 430g’s *** can not only grab fragile objects like raw eggs and paper cup,but also achieve strong grasping force to damage metal *** humanoid hand has considerable application prospects in artificial prosthesis,human-computer interaction,and robot operation.

The utilization of lighter alkanes into useful chemical products is essential for modern chemistry and reducing the CO_(2)***,n-butane has gained special attention across the globe due to the abundant production of maleic anhydride(MA).Vanadium phosphorous oxide(VPO)is the most effective catalyst for selective oxidation of n-butane to MA so ***,the VPO complex exists in more or less fifteen different structures,each one having distinct phase composition and exclusive surface morphology and physiochemical properties such as valence state,lattice oxygen,acidity etc.,which relies on precursor preparation method and the activation conditions of *** catalytic performance of VPO catalyst is improved by adding different promoters or co-catalyst such as various metals dopants,or either introducing template or structural-directing ***,new preparation strategies such as electrospinning,ball milling,hydrothermal,barothermal,ultrasound,microwave irradiation,calcination,sol-gel method and solvothermal synthesis are also employed for introducing improvement in catalytic *** in above-mentioned different aspects will be ascribed in current review in addition to summarizing overall catalysis activity and final *** analyze the performance of the catalytic precursor,the reaction mechanism and reaction kinetics both are discussed in this review to help clarify the key issues such as strong exothermic reaction,phosphorus supplement,water supplement,deactivation,and air/n-butane pretreatment *** to the various industrial applications of VPO.
