This paper proposes an omni-directional printed antenna with broadband and high gain for WiFi-5 and WiFi-6 applications. In order to achieve stable omnidirectional gain, both of the ground plane and the radiating elements are arranged on the same side of the printed circuit board (PCB) substrate. Over the whole working frequency band, selecting the left end of the PCB board to supply power helps to achieve good radiation pattern in the H-plane. Simulated results exhibit that a relative bandwidth of 8% (5.15-7.125 GHz) is obtained. The corresponding gain ranges from 5.14 to 7.74 dBi in the operating band, which is about 4 dBi larger than that of the conventional omnidirectional antennas.

Vehicle positioning is considered a key element in autonomous driving systems. While conventional positioning requires the use of GPS and/or beacon signals from network infrastructure for triangulation, they are sensitive to multi-path and signal obstruction. However, recent proposals like the Channel-SLAM method showed it was possible in principle to in fact leverage multi-path to improve positioning of a single vehicle. In this paper, we derive a cooperative Channel-SLAM framework, which is referred as Team Channel-SLAM. Different from the previous work, Team Channel-SLAM not only exploits the stationary nature of reflecting objects around the receiver to characterize the location of a single vehicle through multi-path signals, but also capitalizes on the multi-vehicle aspects of road traffic to further improve positioning. Specifically, Team Channel-SLAM exploits the correlation between reflectors around multiple neighboring vehicles to achieve high precision multiple vehicle positioning. Our method uses affinity propagation clustering and cooperative particle filter. The new framework is shown to give substantial improvement over the single vehicle positioning situation.

This paper presents a compact high-gain omnidirectional antenna for WiFi-6 applications. The antenna is basically comprised of three pairs of printed dipole patches in series, a coplanar waveguide (CPW) feeding structure and a choking coil, respectively. The printed dipoles fed in series are used to increase radiation gain while the choking coil is employed to provide stable radiation pattern as well as good impedance matching. This paper proposes a periodic double ring strip frequency selective surface (FSS) with dual-band stop behavior. The FSS elements are designed to be etched on the transparent coating of glass substrate in smart buildings, which acts as a dual-band notch filter on 2.45GHz and 5.4GHz to avoid the leakage of WiFi signal outside the building. All the simulation parts are simulated by using High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS). The proposed FSS possesses 450MHz and 960MHz bandwidth with insertion loss more than -10dB around the two central operating frequencies 2.45GHz and 5.45GHz, respectively. Furthermore, the unit-cell structure provides a stable performance for both TE and TM polarizations with incident angles 0°-60°. A prototype of the proposed FSS is fabricated and measured. Good agreement between the simulated and measured results is obtained.

Sum-Rate Maximization for Active RIS-Aided Downlink RSMA system

n this paper, the problem of sum-rate maximization for an active reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) assisted downlink rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) transmission system is studied. In the considered model, the active RIS is deployed to overcome severe power attenuation, which is caused by the cumulative product of RIS incidence path loss and the reflection path loss. Since the active RIS can adjust both the phase and the amplitude of the incident signal simultaneously, the RIS control scheme requires delicate design to improve RSMA communication performance. To address this issue, a sum-rate maximization problem is formulated to jointly optimize the beamforming vectors, rate allocation vector, and RIS precoding matrix. To solve this non-convex sum-rate maximization problem, an iterative algorithm based on fractional programming (FP) and quadratic constraint quadratic programming (QCQP) is proposed. In particular, the proposed algorithm firstly decomposes the original problem into two subproblems, namely, 1) beamforming and rate allocation optimization and 2) active RIS precoding optimization. The corresponding variables of the two subproblems are optimized through sequential convex approximation (SCA) and block coordinate descent (BCD), respectively. Numerical results show that the proposed active RIS-aided RSMA system could increase the sum-rate by up to 45% over the conventional passive RIS-aided RSMA system with the same energy consumption. The long term evolution (LTE) networks provide high data rate access to support multi-media services at the expense of more power consumption in user equipment (UE). Discontinuous reception (DRX) mechanism is one of the promising technologies for energy saving in LTE networks, which extends UE battery lifetime effectively. The DRX parameters configuration should make a compromise between power saving and wake-up delay, which can be achieved by the DRX parameters configuration according to different traffic types with specific quality of service (QoS) requirement. In this paper, we model the DRX mechanism with web traffic using a semi-Markov process. Based on the proposed model, the performance of power saving and wake-up delay with various DRX parameters is analysed, which provides insight on effects of the DRX parameters on the power saving and wake-up delay performance. The analytical results are verified by the simulation, which shows that LTE DRX achieves much power saving gains at the cost of tolerable delay.

A key technology in the 5th generation (5G) wireless communications is non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) which can effectively support massive random access. Since in a 5G system the number of active users generally does not exceed 10% of the total number of users in practice, the main challenge for multi-user detection (MUD) is the joint detection of sparse active users and their data. To address this challenge, we propose a novel compressed sensing based NOMA (CS-NOMA) scheme which can be deployed in a CDMA or an OFDM system and does not have control signaling overhead and need no knowledge of the active state of users. In the proposed scheme, K users are multiplexed over N shared resources (K >> N). Then, a CS-based MUD is applied to the proposed CS-NOMA scheme. Simulation results show that, in the case that active users are sparse (e.g., 10%), the proposed scheme can achieve a superior performance even when the system loading is up to 300%.

Visible light positioning (VLP) has attracted considerable interest due to its high accuracy and low cost. However, VLP typically requires several light emitting diodes (LEDs) for positioning, which may lead to positioning failure in sparse LED layout or parts of the links are blocked. To address this challenge, we propose a novel graph optimization-based localization algorithm by fusing VLP and visual odometry (VO), termed GO-VLO. In the considered model, a few LEDs are deployed on the ceiling and broadcast positioning information, while a receiver equipped with a camera conducts GO-VLO to achieve precise positioning with limited LEDs. GO-VLO consists of a front end to process positioning information and a back end to further optimize the positioning results. In particular, VLP and VO are first used separately at the front end, thus obtaining two respective positioning results. Then, a visible-light visual odometry fusion mechanism is proposed to fuse the positioning results of VLP and VO preliminarily. To strengthen the constraints between frames and prevent location failure when VLP is unavailable, a novel graph optimization framework is further proposed in the back end, which notably takes the covisible feature points of two successive frames into consideration. Experimental results show that our proposed method attains a positioning accuracy of 4.93 cm in two dimension and 6.20 cm in three dimension under dense LED layout.

In this paper, a novel visible light communication (VLC) assisted Perspective-four-Line algorithm (V-P4L) is proposed for indoor localization. The basic idea of V-P4L is to joint the coordinate information obtained by VLC and the geometric information in computer vision for practical indoor localization. In particular, V-P4L first exploits the geometric information to estimate the orientation and coordinate of a single rectangular LED luminaire in the camera coordinate system based on the plane and solid geometry. Then, VLC is used to transmit the world coordinate information of the luminaire to the camera. Next, the position and pose of the camera in the world coordinate system are obtained by the single-view geometry and the linear least square method. Due to the combination of VLC and computer vision, V-P4L only requires a single luminaire for localization and does not rely on the channel model. Therefore, V-P4L is more robust to dust and other factors that interfere visible light signals. Besides, unlike conventional Perspective-n-Line (PnL) algorithms, V-P4L does not require the 3 dimensional (3D)-2 dimensional (2D) correspondences. Simulation results show that for V-P4L the location error is always less than 18 cm and the orientation error is always less than 4.5°.
