In this paper, the problem of trajectory design of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for maximizing the number of satisfied users is studied in a UAV based cellular network where the UAV works as a flying base station that serves users, and the user indicates its satisfaction in terms of completion of its data request within an allowable maximum waiting time. The trajectory design is formulated as an optimization problem whose goal is to maximize the number of satisfied users. To solve this problem, a machine learning framework based on double Qlearning algorithm is proposed. The algorithm enables the UAV to find the optimal trajectory that maximizes the number of satisfied users. Compared to the traditional learning algorithms, such as Q-learning that selects and evaluates the action using the same Q-table, the proposed algorithm can decouple the selection from the evaluation, therefore avoid overestimation which leads to sub-optimal policies. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve up to 19.4% and 14.1% gains in terms of the number of satisfied users compared to random algorithm and Q-learning algorithm. The popularity of IEEE 802. 11 based wireless local area network（ WLAN） increased significantly in recent years and resulted in the dense deployment of WLANs. While densification can contribute to increasing coverage,it could also lead to increasing interference and cannot insure high spatial reuse due to the current physical carrier sensing of IEEE 802. 11. To tackle these challenges,the dynamic sensitivity control（ DSC） is considered in IEEE802. 11 ax,which dynamically selects the appropriate carrier sensing threshold（ CST） to improve spectrum efficiency and enhance spatial reuse in densely deployed network. A dynamic Q-learning based CST selection method is proposed to enable a network to select the optimal CST according to the channel condition. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme provides 40% aggregate throughput gain of a dense network when compared with legacy IEEE 802. 11.

Analysis and Optimization of Service Delay for Multi-quality Videos in Multi-tier Heterogeneous network with Random Caching

Aiming to minimize service delay, we propose a new random caching scheme in device-to-device (D2D)-assisted heterogeneous network. To support diversified viewing qualities of multimedia video services, each video file is encoded into a base layer (BL) and multiple enhancement layers (ELs) by scalable video coding (SVC). A super layer, including the BL and several ELs, is transmitted to every user. We define and quantify the service delay of multi-quality videos by deriving successful transmission probabilities when a user is served by a D2D helper, a small-cell base station (SBS) and a macro-cell base station (MBS). We formulate a delay minimization problem subject to the limited cache sizes of D2D helpers and SBSs. The structure of the optimal solutions to the problem is revealed, and then an improved standard gradient projection method is designed to effectively obtain the solutions. Both theoretical analysis and Monte-Carlo simulations validate the successful transmission probabilities. Compared with three benchmark caching policies, the proposed SVC-based random caching scheme is superior in terms of reducing the service delay. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A Machine Learning Approach for Task and Resource Allocation in Mobile Edge Computing Based networks

In this paper, a joint task, spectrum, and transmit power allocation problem is investigated for a wireless network in which the base stations (BSs) are equipped with mobile edge computing (MEC) servers to jointly provide computational and communication services to users. Each user can request one computational task from three types of computational tasks. Since the data size of each computational task is different, as the requested computational task varies, the BSs must adjust their resource (subcarrier and transmit power) and task allocation schemes to effectively serve the users. This problem is formulated as an optimization problem whose goal is to minimize the maximal computational and transmission delay among all users. A multi-stack reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm is developed to solve this problem. Using the proposed algorithm, each BS can record the historical resource allocation schemes and users’ information in its multiple stacks to avoid learning the same resource allocation scheme and users’ states, thus improving the convergence speed and learning efficiency. Simulation results illustrate that the proposed algorithm can reduce the number of iterations needed for convergence and the maximal delay among all users by up to 18% and 11.1% compared to the standard Q-learning algorithm. The traffic explosion and the rising of diverse requirements lead to many challenges for traditional mobile network architecture on flexibility, scalability, and deployability. To meet new requirements in the 5 G era, service based architecture is introduced into mobile networks. The monolithic network elements(e.g., MME, PGW, etc.) are split into smaller network functions to provide customized services. However, the management and deployment of network functions in service based 5 G core network are still big challenges. In this paper, we propose a novel management architecture for 5 G service based core network based on NFV and SDN. Combined with SDN, NFV and edge computing, the proposed framework can provide distributed and on-demand deployment of network functions, service guaranteed network slicing, flexible orchestration of network functions and optimal workload allocation. Simulations are conducted to show that the proposed framework and algorithm are effective in terms of reducing network operating cost.

In Delay Tolerant networks (DTN), the nodes are sparse and intermittently connected, the end-to-end connectivity between nodes is rare. To overcome the intermittent connectivity, DTN routing protocols employ the 'store-carry-forward' strategy to transmit messages. A message is delivered to a destination node from a source node via opportunistic contacts between intermediate nodes. In addition, nodes in DTN have a feature of community. In a community, network node meet each other regularly, while between communities there are only few encounter opportunities. In this paper, we propose a community-based opportunistic routing protocol which works in two modes, the Intra-community mode and the inter-community mode. In Intra-community message transmission, we adopt reasonable forwarding conditions and E-PRoPHET algorithm to design the transmission mechanism. In inter-community message transmission, we use the communication probability and the remaining energy to select the most suitable forwarding node. All of these are designed to limit the number of copies of messages, so as to ensure the performance of the algorithm. We extensively simulated our proposal and have shown that our proposed protocol can raise the delivery ratio, reduce the delivery delay and improve the efficiency of forwarding messages. © 2018 IEEE.

Traditional software defined wireless sensor networks (SDWSN) fails to reduce the packet loss rate and delay due to the collision of packets in a single frequency channel. Considering a large network with numerous nodes, how to solve this issue becomes extremely essential. So, in this paper, we propose an SDWSN network architecture based on dual frequency channels (dual-channel structure), which enables topology control information and sensing data information to be transmitted in two independent frequency channels. To compare with single channel mode, we simulated the dual-channel structure based on the first order radio model. The numerical results show that the dual-channel structure has better performance on reducing network energy consumption and packet loss rate. The advantages of the dual-channel structure are also analyzed through hardware test. The test results show that the dual-channel structure is better than the traditional single channel structure in terms of node lifetime, delay and packet loss. © 2018 IEEE.

In order to adapt to different vehicle densities, a path connectivity probability based cross-layer routing handoff mechanism is proposed under software defined vehicle ad hoc networks (SDVN). In this mechanism, we employ the derived path connectivity probability model to predict the density degree of a path, which will be used to decide whether to use base stations (BSs) assisted routing or V2V cross-layer routing. Particularly, in the process of performing V2V cross-layer routing, we utilize the information such as connectivity probability, transmission rate, and load to further improve the effectiveness of the proposed mechanism. Simulation results show that our proposed routing algorithm achieves significant gains in terms of delivery ratio and average delay, compared with several existing routing protocols.

Software defined wireless sensor network (SDWSN) is a new network architecture for sensor networks. It provides an information monitoring and management technology solution for wireless sensor network, and has become a research hot spot in recent years. Despite the advantages of SDWSN, there are still some unavoidable problems such as over concentrated load and imbalanced energy consumption with the increase of network scale. To deal with the shortages of load and energy balance in SDWSN, we propose a new hierarchical subnet space based network balance algorithm. The proposed algorithm innovatively optimizes the network structure and forwarding rules of SDWSN. Fog computing is also applied to reduce packet transmission requirement, which helps to further balance load and reduce energy consumption. In our optimized network structure, the whole network is divided into several subnets and sub-controllers are selected for each subnet. Sensor data packets are collected and compressed in the sub-controller and sent to the center controller along the path consisted of sun-controllers. Simulation results show that our proposed algorithm performs better than other existed algorithms in load balancing and energy saving. © 2018 IEEE.
