In this paper, the problem of data correlation-aware resource management is studied for a network of wireless virtual reality (VR) users communicating over cloud-based small cell networks (SCNs). In the studied model, small base stations (SBSs) with limited computational resources act as VR control centers that collect the tracking information from VR users over the cellular uplink and send them to the VR users over the downlink. In such a setting, VR users may send or request correlated or similar data (panoramic images and tracking data). This potential spatial data correlation can be factored into the resource allocation problem to reduce the traffic load in both uplink and downlink. This VR resource allocation problem is formulated as a noncooperative game that allows jointly optimizing the computational and spectrum resources, while being cognizant of the data correlation. To solve this game, a transfer learning algorithm based on the machine learning framework of echo state networks (ESNs) is proposed. Unlike conventional reinforcement learning algorithms that must be executed each time the environment changes, the proposed algorithm can intelligently transfer information on the learned utility, across time, to rapidly adapt to environmental dynamics due to factors such as changes in the users' content or data correlation. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves up to 16.7% and 18.2% gains in terms of delay compared to the Q-learning with data correlation and Q-learning without data correlation. The results also show that the proposed algorithm has a faster convergence time than Q-learning and can guarantee low delays. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Transmission among the cognitive users(CUs)' is always interrupted by the primary users(PUs)' reclaim of the spectrum and the fading effect of wireless *** maintain reliable continuous communication among CUs,an efficient scheme for link maintenance in OFDM-based cognitive radio Ad Hoc networks is proposed in this *** the scheme,redundant sub-channels(RSC) are employed by CUs to tackle the outage problem caused by the PUs' reclaim of the spectrum and wireless fading effect in the ***,backup sub-channels(BSC) are arranged to help select sub-channels with better channel ***,to lower the overhead and improve the accuracy of the spectrum sensing,a partial sensing module is designed to enable the CUs to inherit and update the original idle spectrum list until it *** results show that the proposed scheme can realize higher throughput and lower sensing overhead with slight reduction of the forced termination probability(FTP) performance compared to the existing approaches.

Machine Type Communication(MTC) in the cellular network with ubiquitous coverage and various applications has played an important role in our daily life. For security, MTC devices need to follow the Evolved Packet system-Authentication and key Agreement(EPS-AKA) protocol to guarantee the secure requirements in the machine-to-machine(M2M) communications. However, a huge number of terminal devices tried to complete the authentication procedure simultaneously, which would bring a severe congestion and overload for the network. In this paper, we proposed an efficient, available and scalable group controller-based authentication and key agreement(GC-AKA) protocol for devices to ensure the safety in the long term evolution(LTE) network. Through a design of group controller and simplicity of devices' work in the authentication process, it would be more secure and efficient for resource-constrained devices in the communications between device and the cellular network, while providing simultaneous authentications for a mass of devices without congestion and overload in the network.

In the practical heterogeneous cellular networks, a macro base station (MBS) is usually not located at the center of the macrocell and the distances from the MBS to its edges are also different. For this reason, the tri-sectoring method defined by 3GPP which divides three equal sectors and allocates each sector the same power may severely degrade the communication performance of the edge users. In this paper, we propose a novel tri-sectoring method and a MBS sector power allocation scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiple access based downlink of MBSs under co-channel deployment in heterogeneous cellular networks. We first evaluate the performance of 3GPP tri-sectoring method by using a hexagonal grid model and a Matern hard-core process (MHP) model, respectively, to demonstrate the inapplicability of 3GPP tri-sectoring method to the practical MHP model. Then, we devise a novel tri-sectoring method which considers load balancing and the directional radiation pattern of antennas. At last, a MBS sector power allocation scheme is proposed to control their downlink transmit power according to the downlink outage probability of edge macrocell users. Simulation results show that the proposed methods can improve the throughput of femtocell users and area spectral efficiency.

Energy harvesting from ambient radio frequency (RF) radiation is an efficient approach to provide wireless energy replenishment for mobile devices. At the same time, introducing active/sleep modes in base stations (BSs) is an effective method to save the energy consumption of cellular networks. However, the performance of the two techniques would be dependent and interact with each other if both of them were employed in cellular networks. In this paper, we analyze the performance and investigate the sleeping strategy design problem in the cellular network, in which the mobile devices have the capability of energy harvesting from the ambient RF signals. Specifically, using tools from stochastic geometry theory, we derive analytical expressions of the coverage probability and the harvested energy and show that they are both affected by the sleeping strategy. Then, we formulate a BSs power consumption minimization problem under the coverage probability and harvesting performance constraints. Finally, the optimal operating regime of the sleeping strategy is derived. Numerical results confirm the correctness of the analysis and show the effect of switching off BSs on both performance metrics.

In this paper, the power allocation problem, which aims to optimize the energy efficiency (EE) of downlink OFDMA heterogeneous networks, is researched. Specifically, the terminals are sensor nodes in the Internet of Things (IoT) with RF energy harvesting (EH) technology. This technology enables the sensor nodes to capture energy from the wireless signals in air, constitutes a permanent energy source, and provides self-stainability to them. Traditional interference analysis and EE modeling are unsuitable for our EH introduced problem, so we model the energy-efficient power allocation problem as an EH based non-cooperative (EHNC) game. Then we prove the existence and reveal the uniqueness conditions of the EHNC game equilibrium. We propose a distributed energy-efficient power allocation algorithm to solve the problem, and reveal that the game can converge to Nash equilibrium after certain times of iterations. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is effective in increasing energy-efficient performance, harvesting energy and guaranteeing QoS of the IoT sensor nodes simultaneously.

In this paper, we propose a cellular cognitive-radio vehicular ad hoc network (CCR-VANET) which consists of cellular network (primary network) and vehicular ad hoc network (secondary network). The two coexisting networks share the uplink spectrum of cellular network. The moving pattern of all vehicles is described as the classic Car-Following model. A cognitive carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (cognitive-CSMA) protocol with two-stage decision is investigated to opportunistically access the uplink spectrum. Based on this model and protocol, the transmission opportunity is derived by using stochastic geometry tools. Finally, simulation results show that, with cognitive-CSMA protocol and invariable transmission power of coexisting networks, the CCR-VANET transmission opportunity increases with the increasing of maximum received beacon power threshold, predefined carrier sensing threshold and the number of subchannels, while decreases with the increasing of the density of active primary transmitters.

Recently, wireless local area networks (WLANs) have been densely deployed. In high density WLANs, co-channel interference has become one of the biggest challenges for the network performance. The IEEE 802.11 based WLANs have limited wireless channels, therefore, not all the adjacent APs can work in different non-overlapping channels and co-channel interference will affect the network performance severely. To get better network performance, transmit power control scheme is used to reduce the co-channel interference from neighbour nodes. However, transmit power control scheme may cause asymmetric links, we propose a dynamic carrier sense and rate control (DCR) scheme to improve the network performance in dense WLANs. The DCR scheme mainly tunes the carrier sense threshold (CST) and rate for the edge stations (STAs). A stochastic geometry model is also demonstrated for the analysis of the network performance. The network performance is evaluated by the coverage probability. Then, we simulate the coverage probability of WLAN which uses the existing static carrier sense threshold scheme and the proposed DCR scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed DCR scheme yields better coverage probability compared with the existing static carrier sense threshold scheme.
