Communication networks for electric system is drawing lots of attention for its indispensable effect in the smart grid. When design an electric dedicated private network in the smart grid, only considering maximum capacity may not be enough. In this paper, we consider an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) two-way relay network in the smart grid. Joint resource allocation is used to get higher spectrum efficiency. A capacity reservation scheme is proposed to guarantee specific kind of service while taking energy efficiency and pollutant emissions into account. Simulation results show that our scheme can improve spectrum efficiency, lower energy cost and significantly reduce pollutant emissions.

network virtualization, known as a promising technique, has emerged as an effective method to overcome the ossification of the Internet. By enabling the co-existence of multiple heterogeneous Virtual networks (VNs) over a shared infrastructure, network virtualization exhibits better flexibility. A crucial problem is Virtual network Embedding (VNE), namely embedding the virtual networks to the substrate network efficiently. Because it is an NP-hard problem, many heuristic algorithms have been developed. However, their efficiency is not high, which makes them unsuitable for real-time multimedia services. Thus, we propose an efficient virtual network embedding algorithm based on subgraph, which takes the load status of substrate links and the network connectivity into consideration. With the proposed algorithm, the computation complexity is reduced and the processing time for each request is shortened. Our simulation results reveal the better efficiency of the proposed algorithm compared to the existing ones.

With the growing popularity of smart phones and the rapid development of Internet, the traditional network management system cannot adapt itself to the requirement intelligently. If we can use historic data to predict the trend of network traffic accurately, a better planning of network is more likely to be made and limited resource can be allocated and scheduled reasonably. However, massive amounts of data collected by network operators cannot be effectively processed. Therefore, in this paper, we design a network traffic prediction system based on Hadoop platform to process the real mobile network traffic data for a major network operator in China. With the Echo State network (ESN), a new kind of Recurrent Neural network (RNN) structure, the system can make accurate predictions of traffic variation trend for various network applications.

In cognitive vehicular networks, cooperation transmission has many advantages to access licensed spectrum under interference constraints, by exploring space diversity of vehicles. And in the urban city, there are many candidate vehicles can be a cooperation relay especially when traffic congestion. Recently many papers concern about cognitive multi-hop network, but most of them only analyzed the performance like outage probability, capacity and so on, which ignored the performance of energy efficiency. Moreover, the selection of cooperation relay closely related with the performance, and in vehicular environment it must consider the geographic distribution of vehicles. So, in this paper we analyze the performance of multi-hop cognitive vehicular networks with considering the vehicle distribution, then we optimize the energy-efficient problem and propose the cooperation relay scheduling scheme (CRSS) to improve the energy efficiency. Simulation results show that, by using CRSS the performance of energy efficiency and outage probability in multi-hop cognitive vehicular have been improved.

End-to-end delay is an important metric for network performance. This paper studies the end-to-end delay in a two-hop Cognitive Machine-to-Machine (CM2M) network, where a pair of primary users (PUs) coexist with a secondary (SR) network with many two-hop line M2M communication links. The occupancy of the licensed channel by PUs is modelled as a continuous-time two-state (busy and idle) Markov process. Secondary (SR) network is composed of many two-hop line routes, each of which consists of a source node, a relay node and a destination. The locations of the source nodes are assumed to be the realizations of independent Poisson Point Process in each time slot. Secondary users (SUs) deploy a combination of TDMA and ALOHA medium access control (MAC) protocol. We first quantify the packet success probability for single-hop when the channel is idle for SUs, where the capture of a packet is determined by signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) experienced by the receiver. We then evaluate the delays of each hop (1st hop and 2nd hop delay) and the two-hop delay. Numerical results show that a better end-to-end performance could be obtained through proper network parameters settings. Simulation results verify the correctness of theoretical analysis.

As a combination of fiber networks' huge available bandwidth and wireless networks' ubiquity and mobility, the fiber-wireless (FiWi) access network is considered as a promising network architecture for future networks. The wireless sub-network of FiWi networks is responsible for users' Internet access and connected to back-end fiber subnetwork. Inheriting from pure wireless networks, the wireless subnetwork is also vulnerable to the factors in surrounding environment such as noise, mutual interference of different users and etc. Although fiber links are quite good, they are not perfect. When a fiber link is long enough, the signal fading can not be ignored which may make receiver receive a false packet. The interference in wireless subnetworks and the signal fading in fiber subnetworks severely affect the quality of service in FiWi networks. In this paper, a code-based packet recovery mechanism in FiWi access networks is proposed. Based on the XOR coding, a packet which contains recovery message is generated by sender after sending several normal packets. The recovery packet follows these normal packets. Our packet recovery mechanism makes the receiver be able to cope with the situation of one packet loss, rather than request the sender to retransmit. The recovery packet generating algorithm and the packet recovery algorithm are also presented. Through extensive numerical simulation, we discuss the cost of packet recovery mechanism and compare its performance with the alternative without packet recovery mechanism.

With the rapid increasing impact of the mobile Internet on people's daily life, accessing the Internet via mobile devices is showing an obvious trend, which brings a large amount of network traffic at the same time. This paper analyzes HTTP traffic characteristics based on real world data collected from a commercial Internet Service Provider (ISP) in charge of some regions of China. We investigate the variation characteristics of HTTP traffic over time. Five common types of HTTP messages are also presented with their percentages in real network environment. In Particular, after the analysis of the distributions of HTML reply lengths and HTTP header numbers, we see the relationship between them can be described as linearity, which can be much instructive to some engineering works. Furthermore, we find the tag is not contained in a majority of HTML messages by extracting their HTML heads in accordance with certain rules. In this paper, we design a data acquisition system applied in the mobile Internet which can evaluate the load of network traffic by capturing and processing packets real-timely and efficiently.

Remote Authentication Dial In User Service (RADIUS) is a widespread used Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) protocol. With RADIUS, the network users are able to access the Internet in security and the operators can record the information of network activity such as login time, logout time and traffic, etc. This paper presents some observations of the real operational CDMA network in a certain city by analyzing the characteristics of the RADIUS packet-level data captured by monitoring system deployed between AAA server and PSDN server of the network. The distribution of activated mobile users, the characteristics of online mobile users such as traffic, online duration and login times were analyzed. Finally we acquired some valuable conclusions that might be useful for the mobile network operators.

As one of the newest technology, LTE has become increasingly popular after GSM and UMTS. As the LTE industrial chain matures and user requirements grow, E-UTRAN will be deployed on a large scale, covering all urban areas and most other regions. The control plane, which is responsible for connection management, mobility and security, has aroused more and more attention. In order to have an in-depth understanding of LTE control plane, we focus on developing an LTE traffic monitoring and analysis system (LMAS) and analyzing mobile user behavior in LTE network. Characterizing user behavior creates opportunities for better user experience and more information for the Internet service provider.

With the wide deployment of flow monitoring in IP networks, flow data has been more and more applied on abnormal traffic detection. In practice, anomalies should be detected as fast as possible from giant quantity of flow data, while, at present, some classical anomalies detecting methods can not achieve this goal. In this paper, we propose and implement a distributed streaming computing system which aims to perform real-time anomalies detection by leveraging Apache Storm, a stream-computing platform. Based on this efficient system, we can uninterruptedly monitor the mutation of flow data and locate the source of anomalies or attacks in real-time by finding the specific abnormal IP addresses. A typical application example proved the capability and benefits of our system and we also have a detailed discussion in performance measurements and scalability.
