ControlVideo: conditional control for one-shot text-driven video editing and beyond

This paper presents ControlVideo for text-driven video editing — generating a video that aligns with a given text while preserving the structure of the source video. Building on a pre-trained text-to-image diffusion model, ControlVideo enhances the fidelity and temporal consistency by incorporating additional conditions(such as edge maps), and fine-tuning the key-frame and temporal attention on the source video-text pair via an in-depth exploration of the design space. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that ControlVideo outperforms various competitive baselines by delivering videos that exhibit high fidelity w.r.t. the source content, and temporal consistency, all while aligning with the text. By incorporating low-rank adaptation layers into the model before training, ControlVideo is further empowered to generate videos that align seamlessly with reference images. More importantly, ControlVideo can be readily extended to the more challenging task of long video editing(e.g., with hundreds of frames), where maintaining long-range temporal consistency is crucial. To achieve this, we propose to construct a fused ControlVideo by applying basic ControlVideo to overlapping short video segments and key frame videos and then merging them by pre-defined weight functions. Empirical results validate its capability to create videos across 140 frames, which is approximately 5.83 to 17.5 times more than what previous studies achieved. A Real-Time Lightweight Perceptron for Cloud–Edge Collaborative Predictive Maintenance of Online Service Systems

In the era of expanding cloud–edge online service systems, predictive maintenance (PdM) based on key performance indicators (KPIs), such as CPU utilization, response rate, and network bandwidth, is essential for system operational reliability and security. Traditional data-driven PdM approaches for cloud–edge services often monitor individual indicators in isolation, neglecting their interrelationships. Although convolutional modules have been utilized for collaborative representation learning of localized high-dimensional KPIs, the high-computational complexity of CNNs and the limited kernel size hinder their efficacy in modeling high-dimensional, time-sensitive KPIs. To address these challenges, we propose a lightweight multichannel multilayer perceptron (MCMLP) framework for collaborative PdM. This framework enables efficient pointwise manipulation to capture inner-indicator hidden patterns within KPIs sequences without relying on grid-based convolution. Our MCMLP enhances locality through a two-stage dual-channel feature extraction process that captures spatial and temporal dependencies, integrating inner-indicator and cross-timeline features. The proposed MCMLP can also be easily plugged into existing CNN-based detectors as a substitute, offering a computationally economical alternative. Empirical results in real-world KPI data from various cloud–edge service scenarios demonstrate that MCMLP significantly outperforms traditional CNN-based methods, with a roughly 22% reduction in training time at a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05 ). This study also provides actionable insights for deploying MCMLP in cloud–edge service systems. © 2014 IEEE.

Text-guided image generation and editing using diffusion models have achieved remarkable advancements. Among these, tuning-free methods have gained attention for their ability to perform edits without extensive model adjustments, offering simplicity and efficiency. However, existing tuning-free approaches often struggle with balancing fidelity and editing precision. Reconstruction errors in DDIM Inversion are partly attributed to the cross-attention mechanism in U-Net, which introduces misalignments during the inversion and reconstruction process. To address this, we analyze reconstruction from a structural perspective and propose a novel approach that replaces traditional cross-attention with uniform attention maps, significantly enhancing image reconstruction fidelity. Our method effectively minimizes distortions caused by varying text conditions during noise prediction. To complement this improvement, we introduce an adaptive mask-guided editing technique that integrates seamlessly with our reconstruction approach, ensuring consistency and accuracy in editing tasks. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach not only excels in achieving high-fidelity image reconstruction but also performs robustly in real image composition and editing scenarios. This study underscores the potential of uniform attention maps to enhance the fidelity and versatility of diffusion-based image processing methods. Multiscale Weisfeiler-Leman Directed Graph Neural Networks for Prerequisite-Link Prediction

Prerequisite-link Prediction (PLP) aims to discover the condition relations of a specific event or a concerned variable, which is a fundamental problem in a large number of fields, such as educational data mining. Current studies on PLP usually developed graph neural networks (GNNs) to learn the representations of pairs of nodes. However, these models fail to distinguish non-isomorphic graphs and integrate multiscale structures, leading to the insufficient expressive capability of GNNs. To this end, we in this paper proposed k-dimensional Weisferiler-Leman directed GNNs, dubbed k-WediGNNs, to recognize non-isomorphic graphs via the Weisferiler-Leman algorithm. Furthermore, we integrated the multiscale structures of a directed graph into k-WediGNNs, dubbed multiscale k-WediGNNs, from the bidirected views of in-degree and out-degree. With the Siamese network, the proposed models are extended to address the problem of PLP. Besides, the expressive power is then interpreted via theoretical proofs. The experiments were conducted on four publicly available datasets for concept prerequisite relation prediction (CPRP). The results show that the proposed models achieve better performance than the state-of-the-art approaches, where our multiscale k-WediGNN achieves a new benchmark in the task of CPRP. © 2025 IEEE.

In-Context Learning (ICL) is a critical capability of Large Language Models (LLMs) as it empowers them to comprehend and reason across interconnected inputs. Evaluating the ICL ability of LLMs can enhance their utilization and deepen our understanding of how this ability is acquired at the training stage. However, existing evaluation frameworks primarily focus on language abilities and knowledge, often overlooking the assessment of ICL ability. In this work, we introduce the ICLEval benchmark to evaluate the ICL abilities of LLMs, which encompasses two key sub-abilities: exact copying and rule learning. Through the ICLEval benchmark, we demonstrate that ICL ability is universally present in different LLMs, and model size is not the sole determinant of ICL efficacy. Surprisingly, we observe that ICL abilities, particularly copying, develop early in the pretraining process and stabilize afterward. Least Square Estimation for Multiple Functional Linear Model with Autoregressive Errors

As an extension of linear regression in functional data analysis, functional linear regression has been studied by many researchers and applied in various fields. However, in many cases, data is collected sequentially over time, for example the financial series, so it is necessary to consider the autocorrelated structure of errors in functional regression background. To this end, this paper considers a multiple functional linear model with autoregressive errors. Based on the functional principal component analysis, we apply the least square procedure to estimate the functional coefficients and autoregression coefficients. Under some regular conditions, we establish the asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators. A simulation study is conducted to investigate the finite sample performance of our estimators. A real example on China's weather data is applied to illustrate the validity of our model.

Wind turbine detection is essential for the power industry and regulatory agencies to efficiently and accurately determine their number and spatial distribution. Under complex underlying surface conditions, the detection accuracy of conventional methods is low, especially when dealing with multi-scale wind turbine targets. In addition, the underutilization of the near-infrared (NIR) band limits the capability of optical remote sensing sensors in wind turbine detection. To address the above problems, this paper proposes a wind turbine detection algorithm YOLOv8m-BD based on high spatial resolution four-band reflectance images using YOLOv8m as the baseline model. Firstly, the four-band image is input through channel adaptation modification. Next, the CSPDarknet53 to 2-stage FPN (C2f) module is enhanced by introducing deformable convolution (DCN) to expand the receptive field. Finally, the effectiveness of our design was validated through extensive experiments on a self-built wind turbine dataset. Compared to the YOLOv8m baseline model that only inputs RGB three bands, the improved YOLOv8m-BD achieves an accuracy of 96.4% and a false alarm rate of 2.0%, an increase of 3.4% in accuracy and a decrease of 2.5% in false alarm rate. © 2025 SPIE.

Efficient Variants of Wasserstein Distance in Hyperbolic Space via Space-Filling Curve Projection

Hyperbolic spaces have been considered pervasively for embedding hierarchically structured data in the recent decade. However, there is a lack of studies focusing on efficient distance metrics for comparing probability distributions in hyperbolic spaces. To bridge the gap, we propose a novel metric called the hyperbolic space-filling curve projection Wasserstein (SFW) distance. The idea is to first project two probability distributions onto a space-filling curve to obtain a closed-form coupling between them and then calculate the transport distance between these two distributions in the hyperbolic space accordingly. Theoretically, we show the SFW distance is a proper metric and is well-defined for probability measures with bounded supports. Statistical convergence rates for the proposed estimator are provided as well. Moreover, we propose two variants of the SFW distance based on geodesic and horospherical projections, respectively, to combat the curse-of-dimensionality. Empirical results on synthetic and real-world data indicate that the SFW distance can effectively serve as a surrogate of the popular Wasserstein distance with low complexity. © 2012 IEEE.

Effective and Efficient Masked Image Generation Models

Although masked image generation models and masked diffusion models are designed with different motivations and objectives, we observe that they can be unified within a single framework. Building upon this insight, we carefully explore the design space of training and sampling, identifying key factors that contribute to both performance and efficiency. Based on the improvements observed during this exploration, we develop our model, referred to as eMIGM. Empirically, eMIGM demonstrates strong performance on ImageNet generation, as measured by Fréchet Inception Distance (FID). In particular, on ImageNet 256×256, with similar number of function evaluations (NFEs) and model parameters, eMIGM outperforms the seminal VAR. Moreover, as NFE and model parameters increase, eMIGM achieves performance comparable to the state-of-the-art continuous diffusion models while requiring less than 40% of the NFE. Additionally, on ImageNet 512 × 512, with only about 60% of the NFE, eMIGM outperforms the state-of-the-art continuous diffusion models. © 2025, CC BY.
