In cooperative relay networks with multiple users and multiple potential relays, which relay nodes are selected has great impact on the system performance. It is an optimization problem for selecting suitable relay nodes. The exhaustive search can solve this problem but the complexity will increase factorially with the network size, i.e., the number of users and the number of relays in the network. In this paper, we formulate both single-objective and multi-objective relay selection problems. For single-objective relay selection problem, only system throughput or fairness is considered. A novel quantum particle swarm optimization (QPSO) based relay selection scheme is proposed. For multi-objective relay selection problem, two contradictive objectives, i.e., system throughput and fairness are considered simultaneously. A novel non-dominated sorting quantum particle swarm optimization (NSQPSO) based relay selection scheme is proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed relay selection schemes have the ability to search global optimal solution but have less computational complexity compared with exhaustive search.

Opportunistic spectrum access (OSA) is a promising method to improve the spectrum utilization. In this paper, we propose a weighted power control approach to further exploit the flexibility of OSA. We first give the definition and basic idea of confidence level of sub-channel idle (CLSI), then two schemes are raised to enhance the system performance considering the time-variance of channels, the accuracy of spectrum sensing and mutual interference (MI) in power-constrained cognitive radio systems. The first scheme is to maximize the system capacity, and the second one is a multi-objective optimization model for maximizing both the system capacity and the user satisfaction. Both theoretical analysis and simulation results demonstrate that scheme 1 can achieve optimal system capacity, and scheme 2 can obtain sub-optimal system capacity with optimal user satisfaction compared to the conventional algorithm.

Since a clustering algorithm can produce as many partitions as desired, one need to assess their quality in order to select the partition that most represents the structure in the data. This is the rationale for the cluster-validity (CV) problem and indices. This paper proposes a CV index for fuzzy-clustering algorithm, such as the fuzzy c-means (FCM) or its derivatives. Given a fuzzy partition, this new index uses global information and is based on more logical reasoning than geometrical features. Experimental results on artificial and benchmark datasets are given to demonstrate the performance of the proposed index, as compared with traditional and recent indices.

Since the year of 2006, peer-to-peer （P2P） streaming media service has been developing rapidly, the user scale and income scale achieve synchronous growth. However, while people enjoying the benefits of the distributed resources, a great deal of network bandwidth is consumed at the same time. Research on P2P streaming traffic characteristics and identification is essential to Internet service providers （ISPs） in terms of network planning and resource allocation. In this paper, we introduce the current common P2P traffic detection technology, and analyze the payload length distribution and payload length pattern in one flow of four popular P2P streaming media applications. Combining with the deep flow inspection and machine learning algorithm, a nearly real-time The experiments proved that this approach can achieve a high identification approach for P2P streaming media is proposed. accuracy with low false positives.

The adoption of Carrier Aggregation(CA) technology enables the LTE-Advanced(LTE-A) system to support very-high-data-rate transmission over wide frequency bandwidths and to keep the backward compatibility of LTE ***,the authors have to deal with the significant increase of peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR) associated with the carrier aggregation,which determines the efficiency of Power Amplifier(PA) and the coverage of the *** paper proposes an improved Selected Mapping SLM scheme to reduce PAPR of the LTE-A uplink data and demodulation reference signal(DMRS) symbols by 2 to 3 dB for different component carrier(CC) numbers and modulation modes,in which the signaling overhead of conventional SLM is eliminated by exploiting the features of *** linear property of Inverse Fast Fourier Transformation(IFFT) is used to reduce the computational complexity of *** proposed scheme with 4 initial phase sequences reduces the complex multiplications by 63.5% and the complex additions by 68.2% compared with the conventional SLM scheme with 16 phase sequences while keeping the similar PAPR reduction performance.

Doubly selective channel estimation and symbol detection with data-dependent superimposed training for OFDM systems

A channel estimation using Data-dependent Superimposed Training (DDST) over doubly selective channel is proposed for OFDM systems. Instead of using traditional pilot-assisted scheme, this scheme uses training superimposed to data sequence in time domain to assist the estimation, which consumes no extra bandwidth. The superimposed training is designed data-dependent to eliminate the interference of unknown data on estimation thoroughly. Meanwhile, an iterative symbol detection method is presented for the DDST based time varying channel. Simulations show that the proposed estimator can approach the real channel more accurately and achieve better Bit Error Ratio (BER) performance. Copyright © 2012 Binary Information Press.

The long term evolution (LTE) networks provide high data rate access to support multi-media services at the expense of more power consumption in user equipment (UE). Discontinuous reception (DRX) mechanism is one of the promising technologies for energy saving in LTE networks, which extends UE battery lifetime effectively. The DRX parameters configuration should make a compromise between power saving and wake-up delay, which can be achieved by the DRX parameters configuration according to different traffic types with specific quality of service (QoS) requirement. In this paper, we model the DRX mechanism with web traffic using a semi-Markov process. Based on the proposed model, the performance of power saving and wake-up delay with various DRX parameters is analysed, which provides insight on effects of the DRX parameters on the power saving and wake-up delay performance. The analytical results are verified by the simulation, which shows that LTE DRX achieves much power saving gains at the cost of tolerable delay.

The energy efficiency (EE) optimization in downlink carrier aggregated networks is addressed in this paper. To maximize EE by joint component carrier (CC) configuration and power control, we first model the problem as a mixed integer non-linear programming problem, which is NP-hard. Then the existence of optimal solution is proved. Based on the properties of optimal solution obtained by analysis, an optimal algorithm is found. Finally, a low-complex suboptimal algorithm is proposed by exploiting inherent features of CC configuration and dividing power control into two subproblems, which can be solved optimally. Simulation results show that EE of proposed algorithms is significantly better than that of conventional algorithm, and the suboptimal algorithm can greatly reduce complexity with little loss of EE in comparison to the optimal algorithm.
