The problem of interference mitigation in two-tier downlink orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) femtocell networks is considered in this paper. We propose a potential game based distributed power control algorithm, aiming at maximizing the users' SINRs and improving the system capacity. With a penalty factor in system capacity as a utility function for macrocell and femtocell, a global optimization problem then turns into a local optimization problem with multi-iterations. Based on gradient projection response criterion, dynamically rational power allocation for each resource block is performed, achieving the coordination of interference between macrocell and femtocell and increasing system capacity. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme effectively reduces the system capacity loss and improves the throughput of macrocell users with minor performance degradation of the femtocell users. Moreover, the proposed scheme is easy to implement in a decentralized manner.

Previous Virtual network (VN) embedding researches mostly focus on developing heuristic algorithms to enhance the efficiency of a physical resource. However, in the equal-scale condition, where the scale of a VN is similar to that of a substrate network, the number of successfully mapped VNs decreases sharply since bottlenecks form easily in the substrate network and disturb the embedding process. In this paper, reversed and bidirectional irrigation methods are proposed for the equal-scale and all-scale conditions. The two proposed methods can be combined with most of the existing heuristic algorithms and map a relatively large number of VNs by reducing the potential substrate bottlenecks. The simulation results show that the reversed irrigation method almost doubles the successfully mapped Revenue than the traditional one in the equal-scale condition. Meanwhile, the bidirectional irrigation method achieves the synthetically best performance in almost all scale conditions.

The emerging of various applications in Internet leads to a technical challenge of quality of service (QoS) guarantee, which is much more critical in the coexisting multi-services scenarios especially. Traditional Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) protocol without QoS consideration has to be improved in order to be utilized efficiently in today's network. In this paper, an on-demand QoS routing mechanism is proposed, which has the main advantage of reaching the QoS demands of the upper layer services while keeping the minimum modification to the existing OSPF protocol. The core of this mechanism is a novel path selection algorithm, which aims to find the best route with minimum cost under the limits of bandwidth requirements. The function and performances of this BW-cost based QoS algorithm are simulated as well as compared to those of the standard Dijkstra algorithm, which is originally used in OSPF, and an existing on-demand QoS algorithm extended to OSPF. Simulation results validate the outstanding performance of the proposed algorithm on load balancing, network utilization and delay: it has the similar ability of load balancing to the existing on-demand QoS algorithm, a little better performance of network utility as well as a great better performance of delay than it, never mention that it exceeds the standard Dijkstra algorithm significantly on each performance parameters listed above.

With the rapid development of CDMA systems, mobile network based applications have been undergone a tremendous growth in the past several years. The ability to accurately classify network traffic is of critical importance to the network design, troubleshooting, performance evaluation, and optimization. In this paper, we explore the design of an accurate and scalable machine learning (ML) based traffic classification system upon correlation-based feature selection (CFS) methods. With extensive data collected from a Tier 1 production cellular network, we experimentally show that our proposal achieves a high classification accuracy and low computational complexity.

To improve the Power Amplifier (PA) energy efficiency, a Polarization-Amplitude-Phase Modulation (PAPM) scheme in wireless communication, which introduces the signal's Polarization State (PS), amplitude and phase as the information-bearing parameter, is proposed. Since that the transmitted signal's PS can be completely determined by a pair of orthogonal dual-polarized antennas and is unaffected by the PA, using the PS as the information-carrying parameter can further increase the data rate and allow PA to work in its non-linear region. Thus, the PA energy efficiency can be enhanced. On the basis of the above, to optimize the PA energy efficiency, an optimization problem regarding the output back off value and the ratio between the data carried by the PS and the amplitude-phase has been formulated, and the distribution of the optimum solutions is presented. The simulation results show that, with the same symbol error rate and channel state, PAPM can reduce the energy consumption per bit by 50% compared with QAM on average.
