In this study, the transmission capacity of VANETs in a highway scenario is analysed on the basis of a 1D line model and the carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance(CSMA/CA) protocol. We describe the CSMA/CA protocol used in IEEE802.11 p from the perspective of the geometric relationship amongst simultaneous transmitters. The desired channel and interfering channels are assumed to experience the same amount of path-loss and Rayleigh fading. On the basis of the proposed model, we analyse the attempted transmission probability of each road segment and the maximum intensity of active transmitters, including their theoretical values. Then, we employ the physical model to obtain the outage probability and derive the upper bound of the transmission capacity of a VANET, which is defined as the average spatial density of successful transmissions in the network. Simulation results indicate that the theoretical value offers a good bound on network capacity.

A low-profile wideband and high gain patch antenna array using low-temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC) fabrication technique is proposed for 60-GHz applications. Coupled feeding scheme is adopted so that the antenna achieves wide impedance bandwidth that covers the entire 60-GHz license-free band with the height of only 0.384 mm (four tape layers). The shorting pin connecting the upper patch and ground imitates the virtual ac ground plane of differential feeding. This enables the antenna element to achieve good radiation performances including stable gain, symmetrical beam with low cross-polarization, which are comparable to those of the differential-driven patch antenna while the complex differential feeding network is not required. Antenna array prototype is fabricated and measured to verify the idea.

This paper presents an UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) system that can find the locations of the wireless devices such as smartphones and tablets in WiSAR (wildness search and rescue). By locating the wireless device, we can find the owner of it that get lost or get hurt in the wildness. The system contains a UAV armed with a wireless sniffer, a flight controller and data processing center. When the locating starts, the UAV will fly according to a planed route while the WiFi sniffer capturing the wireless signal from wireless devices. When the UAV discover the wireless device, a proposed algorithm will be executed to get the wireless device's distance and direction. And it will be executed iteratively until the UAV gets near enough. In order to avoid the environmental impact, we use the Kalman filter to process the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication). The experiments have proved that the proposed method is a fast and precise way to localize the wireless device.

Nowadays, coding metasurface has raised more and more attention, but most of them focus on microwave domain. In this article, we design graphene-based coding metasurfaces utilizing the Pancharatnam-Berry(PB) phase principle in the terahertz(THz) regime. The coding metasurface could control circularly polarized incident waves over a wide bandwidth, by shifting the orientation angle of PB coding units, forming multiple beams with different polarizations. The numerical simulations have good agreements with the theoretical value, which opens an effective way to design novel multibeam antennas for future communication systems.

In this paper, a novel energy harvesting dipole array based on two printed asymmetric off-center fed isosceles trapezoid dipoles is proposed. The dipole array not only has extremely high energy conversion efficiency, but also has wideband characteristics due to the isosceles trapezoidal electromagnetic structure. In order to verify the feasibility of design, the dipole cell and array are numerical simulated with ANSYS HFSS successively. For the alternating current(ac) conversion, the bandwidth with over 80% efficiency of cell reaches approximately 1 GHz, while the bandwidth with over 90% efficiency also approaches 0.6 GHz. Besides, when cells are expanded to an array, the array's performance can be further improved. The experimental results are in line with expectations.
