Metabolic engineering for biomass production using microorganisms’ cell has received considerable attention in recent years. This is due to the biomass products being extensively used in the field of food additives, supplements, pharmaceuticals, and polymer materials. In this paper, ethanol production in Escherichia coli (E. coli) is the desired product. Sugarcane and corn are often used to produce ethanol. However, one of the problems to produce adequate amounts of ethanol is that large areas are needed to plant sugarcane and corn. Furthermore, the amount of time for the process of dry milling and wet milling is high, which are 40 to 50 hours and 24 to 48 hours, respectively. The wet laboratory is also having limitation on the production of ethanol in microorganisms because the amount of the ethanol produced is not satisfying. Hence, a lot of metabolic engineering techniques is introduced to enhance the production of ethanol in E. coli, such as gene knockout strategy, but the production is yet to meet the demand. Therefore, this paper proposes a hybrid algorithm of Particle Swarm Optimization with the Artificial Bee Colony algorithm (PSOABC) to identify the optimal set of gene knockout strategy to improve the ethanol production in E. coli. A list of genes to knockout, production of the desired product, and growth rate are presented in this paper. PSOABC has shown better performance in terms of production, growth rate and accuracy.

Video super-resolution (VSR) on mobile devices aims to restore high-resolution frames from their low-resolution counterparts, satisfying the requirements of performance, FLOPs and latency. On one hand, partial feature processing, as a classic and acknowledged strategy, is developed in current studies to reach an appropriate trade-off between FLOPs and accuracy. However, the splitting of partial feature processing strategy are usually performed in a blind manner, thereby reducing the computational efficiency and performance gains. On the other hand, current methods for mobile platforms primarily treat VSR as an extension of single-image super-resolution to reduce model calculation and inference latency. However, lacking inter-frame information interaction in current methods results in a suboptimal latency and accuracy trade-off. To this end, we propose a novel architecture, termed Feature Aggregating Network with Inter-frame Interaction (FANI), a lightweight yet considering frame-wise correlation VSR network, which could achieve real-time inference while maintaining superior performance. Our FANI accepts adjacent multi-frame low-resolution images as input and generally consists of several fully-connection-embedded modules, i.e., Multi-stage Partial Feature Distillation (MPFD) for capturing multi-level feature representations. Moreover, considering the importance of inter-frame alignment, we further employ a tiny Attention-based Frame Alignment (AFA) module to promote inter-frame information flow and aggregation efficiently. Extensive experiments on the well-known dataset and real-world mobile device demonstrate the superiority of our proposed FANI, which means that our FANI could be well adapted to mobile devices and produce visually pleasing results.

In the domain of Multimodal Relation Extraction (MRE), we present the $\color{Red}{\text{W}}$atcher-$\color{Red}{\text{M}}$ediated $\color{Red}{\text{A}}$ttention $\color{Red}{\text{J}}$oint $\color{Red}{\text{L}}$earning Model ($\color{Red}{\text{WMAJL}}$), a novel approach addressing the challenges of modality alignment noise, cross-modal fusion disparity, preservation of textual relative position information, and the distinctiveness of classification labels. WMAJL employs an integrative framework leveraging contrastive learning and variational autoencoder constraints to mitigate modality alignment noise by prioritizing relevant semantic data and effectively reducing extraneous noise that does not contribute to the task. The model’s innovative architecture includes a mediator watcher, which facilitates enhanced cross-modal fusion by enabling nuanced information exchange between textual and visual modalities while preserving the unique characteristics of each modality. Additionally, the design of auxiliary tasks, such as Named Entity Recognition (NER), and output supervision constructs loss functions that preserve relative position information, ensuring a precise depiction of entity relationships throughout the multilayer encoding processes. A key differentiator of WMAJL is its label-centric self-information loss technique, inspired by InfoNCE, which trains the model to cluster similar relation labels in semantically coherent areas, thereby optimizing classification label uniqueness by discerning subtle differences among relation types. The synergistic application of these strategies has led to a significant enhancement of WMAJL’s performance, as evidenced by its state-of-the-art F1 score of $\color{Red}{84.93\%}$ on the MNRE dataset. This achievement surpasses existing benchmarks and sets a new standard for multimodal knowledge extraction, underscoring WMAJL’s potential to revolutionize the MRE landscape.

With the rapid development of deep learning, the increasing complexity and scale of parameters make training a new model increasingly resource-intensive. In this paper, we start from the classic convolutional neural network (CNN) and explore a paradigm that does not require training to obtain new models. Similar to the birth of CNN inspired by receptive fields in the biological visual system, we draw inspiration from the information subsystem pathways in the biological visual system and propose Model Disassembling and Assembling (MDA). During model disassembling, we introduce the concept of relative contribution and propose a component locating technique to extract task-aware components from trained CNN classifiers. For model assembling, we present the alignment padding strategy and parameter scaling strategy to construct a new model tailored for a specific task, utilizing the disassembled task-aware components. The entire process is akin to playing with LEGO bricks, enabling arbitrary assembly of new models, and providing a novel perspective for model creation and reuse. Extensive experiments showcase that task-aware components disassembled from CNN classifiers or new models assembled using these components closely match or even surpass the performance of the baseline, demonstrating its promising results for model reuse. Furthermore, MDA exhibits diverse potential applications, with comprehensive experiments exploring model decision route analysis, model compression, knowledge distillation, and more. A Revocable Fast and Lightweight Parallel Encryption Scheme for IIoT

As the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) expands, the number of stakeholders increases. Many entities require significant amounts of data from industrial devices. These data streams improve information sharing and optimize the industrial chain. However, IIoT’s enormous data volumes pose challenges to traditional encryption methods, which are unable to meet efficiency and energy consumption requirements. Thus, a new, efficient encryption algorithm is essential for managing data flows among IIoT subscribers. In this paper, we propose a fast, low-energy, high-security encryption scheme to manage multi-entity data streams. First, we introduce a novel encryption scheme based on the Subset Sum Problem (SSP), which improves energy efficiency and speed. Second, to meet subscription requirements, we employ attribute-based encryption (ABE) for key forwarding. Finally, we handle subscription revocations with device key updates. The device owner utilizes their secret value to generate an identity proof with a key update request. © 2014 IEEE.

DCGG: A Dynamically Adaptive and Hardware-software Coordinated Runtime System for GNN Acceleration on GPUs

Graph neural networks (GNNs) are a prominent trend in graph-based deep learning, known for their capacity to produce high-quality node embeddings. However, the existing GNN framework design is only implemented from the algorithm level, and the hardware architecture of the GPU is not fully utilized. To this end, we propose DCGG, a dynamic runtime adaptive framework, which can accelerate various GNN workloads on GPU platforms. DCGG has carried out deeper optimization work mainly in terms of load balancing and software and hardware matching. Accordingly, three optimization strategies are proposed. First, we propose dynamic 2D workload management methods and perform customized optimization based on it, effectively reducing additional memory operations. Second, a new slicing strategy is adopted, combined with hardware features, to effectively improve the efficiency of data reuse. Third, DCGG uses the Quantitative Dimension Parallel Strategy to optimize dimensions and parallel methods, greatly improving load balance and data locality. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DCGG outperforms the state-of-the-art GNN computing frameworks, such as Deep Graph Library (up to 3.10× faster) and GNNAdvisor (up to 2.80× faster), on mainstream GNN architectures across various datasets. © 1968-2012 IEEE.

Outlier detection refers to the identification of anomalous samples that deviate significantly from the distribution of normal data and has been extensively studied and used in a variety of practical tasks. However, most unsupervised outlier detection methods are carefully designed to detect specified outliers, while real-world data may be entangled with different types of outliers. In this study, we propose a fuzzy rough sets-based multi-scale outlier detection method to identify various types of outliers. Specifically, a novel fuzzy rough sets-based method that integrates relative fuzzy granule density is first introduced to improve the capability of detecting local outliers. Then, a multi-scale view generation method based on granular-ball computing is proposed to collaboratively identify group outliers at different levels of granularity. Moreover, reliable outliers and inliers determined by the three-way decision are used to train a weighted support vector machine to further improve the performance of outlier detection. The proposed method innovatively transforms unsupervised outlier detection into a semi-supervised classification problem and for the first time explores the fuzzy rough sets-based outlier detection from the perspective of multi-scale granular balls, allowing for high adaptability to different types of outliers. Extensive experiments carried out on both artificial and UCI datasets demonstrate that the proposed outlier detection method significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art methods, improving the results by at least 8.48% in terms of the Area Under the ROC Curve (AUROC) index. Previous research on code intelligence usually trains a deep learning model on a fixed dataset in an offline manner. However, in real-world scenarios, new code repositories emerge incessantly, and the carried new knowledge is beneficial for providing up-to-date code intelligence services to developers. In this paper, we aim at the following problem: How to enable code intelligence models to continually learn from ever-increasing data? One major challenge here is catastrophic forgetting, meaning that the model can easily forget knowledge learned from previous datasets when learning from the new dataset. To tackle this challenge, we propose REPEAT, a novel method for continual learning of code intelligence models. Specifically, REPEAT addresses the catastrophic forgetting problem with representative exemplars replay and adaptive parameter regularization. The representative exemplars replay component selects informative and diverse exemplars in each dataset and uses them to re-train model periodically. The adaptive parameter regularization component recognizes important parameters in the model and adaptively penalizes their changes to preserve the knowledge learned before. We evaluate the proposed approach on three code intelligence tasks including code summarization, software vulnerability detection, and code clone detection. Extensive experiments demonstrate that REPEAT consistently outperforms baseline methods on all tasks. For example, REPEAT improves the conventional fine-tuning method by 1.22, 5.61, and 1.72 on code summarization, vulnerability detection and clone detection, respectively.

A recommender system(RS)relying on latent factor analysis usually adopts stochastic gradient descent(SGD)as its learning ***,owing to its serial mechanism,an SGD algorithm suffers from low efficiency and scalability when handling large-scale industrial *** at addressing this issue,this study proposes a momentum-incorporated parallel stochastic gradient descent(MPSGD)algorithm,whose main idea is two-fold:a)implementing parallelization via a novel datasplitting strategy,and b)accelerating convergence rate by integrating momentum effects into its training *** it,an MPSGD-based latent factor(MLF)model is achieved,which is capable of performing efficient and high-quality *** results on four high-dimensional and sparse matrices generated by industrial RS indicate that owing to an MPSGD algorithm,an MLF model outperforms the existing state-of-the-art ones in both computational efficiency and scalability.
