An undirected weighted graph (UWG) is frequently adopted to describe the interactions among a solo set of nodes from real applications, such as the user contact frequency from a social network services system. A graph convolutional network (GCN) is widely adopted to perform representation learning to a UWG for subsequent pattern analysis tasks such as clustering or missing data estimation. However, existing GCNs mostly neglects the latent collaborative information hidden in its connected node pairs. To address this issue, this study proposes to model the node collaborations via a symmetric latent factor analysis model, and then regards it as a node-collaboration module for supplementing the collaboration loss in a GCN. Based on this idea, a Node-collaboration-informed Graph Convolutional Network (NGCN) is proposed with three-fold ideas: a) Learning latent collaborative information from the interaction of node pairs via a node-collaboration module;b) Building the residual connection and weighted representation propagation to obtain high representation capacity;and c) Implementing the model optimization in an end-to-end fashion to achieve precise representation to the target UWG. Empirical studies on UWGs emerging from real applications demonstrate that owing to its efficient incorporation of node-collaborations, the proposed NGCN significantly outperforms state-of-the-art GCNs in addressing the task of missing weight estimation. Meanwhile, its good scalability ensures its compatibility with more advanced GCN extensions, which will be further investigated in our future studies. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. Advanced wireless networks are essential given the increase in demand for smart services enabled by the Internet of Everything (IoE). Despite the fact that 5G networks could enable Internet of Everything (IoE)-based services, they can’t meet all of the requirements needed to create intelligent applications. In order to overcome the shortcomings of the current infrastructure, there is an increasing demand to investigate the potential of 6G wireless communication technologies. Complex network optimization problems can be resolved by integrating artificial intelligence into sixth generation networks. An increasing user base and support for large-scale data-driven applications are essential given the fast evolving 6G landscape. In addition to highlighting network needs, critical supporting technologies, and a comparison of 5G and 6G networks, this study looks at recent advancements and trends in 6G technology. The report also explores new approaches to 6G connectivity, such as edge computing, backscatter communications, AI-driven IoT networks, and holographic beamforming, all of which are meant to support intelligent communities. In order to achieve the goal of 6Gbased IoT networks, it concludes by outlining potential research avenues.

Automatic text summarization is to obtain a summary by compressing the text while retaining its important information, and then users can obtain the important content of the text by reading the summary. In the research literatures, the extraction method is widely used and is also one of the main research methods of most abstracts. However, this summary method still has some problems. The selection of the initial cluster center has not been carefully determined, and in articles with complex sentences, the sentence redundancy summarized is high. In order to solve the above problems, this paper proposes an automatic text summarization method based on improved TextRank algorithm and K-Means clustering. This method uses the improved BM25 model to calculate the BM25 similarity between sentences, and then uses the TextRank model to obtain the TR score of sentences. Then, the TR score is used to select the initial center of K-Means clustering. Finally, the summary is obtained through the class score and sentence score. The experimental results show that the proposed BM25Rank algorithm has a better effect on DUC2004 dataset. In conclusion, the improved TextRank and K-Means method proposed in this paper improve the accuracy of automatic text summarization and reduce the redundancy. © 2023, The Authors. Research Artifacts in software engineering Publications: Status and Trends

The software engineering (SE) community has been embracing the open science policy and encouraging researchers to disclose artifacts in their publications. However, the status and trends of artifact practice and quality remain unclear, lacking insights on further improvement. In this paper, we present an empirical study to characterize the research artifacts in SE publications. Specifically, we manually collect 1,487 artifacts from all 2,196 papers published in top-tier SE conferences (ASE, FSE, ICSE, and ISSTA) from 2017 to 2022. We investigate the common practices (e.g., URL location and format, storage websites), maintenance activities (e.g., last update time and URL validity), popularity (e.g., the number of stars on GitHub and characteristics), and quality (e.g., documentation and code smell) of these artifacts. Based on our analysis, we reveal a rise in publications providing artifacts. The usage of Zenodo for sharing artifacts has significantly increased. However, artifacts stored in GitHub tend to receive few stars, indicating a limited influence on real-world SE applications. We summarize the results and provide suggestions to different stakeholders in conjunction with current guidelines. © 2024, CC BY.

With the widespread application of digital assets and the rapid development of blockchain technology, achieving secure and efficient transactions between different blockchain networks has become an urgent challenge. Existing cross-chain methods impose limitations, e.g., hash lock technology exhibits low scalability, side-chain technology is overly complex, and notary schemes pose centralization risks. In order to address these issues, we propose a cross-chain transaction solution based on proxy re-signature technology. To tackle the centralization concerns, we employ proxy re-signature technology to decentralize the authority of notaries among transaction participants, minimizing the potential for centralization at a low cost. We further present an extended scheme that can guarantee more requirements such as higher transaction amount and shorter transaction time. Furthermore, we analyze and compare the signature technologies used in the proposed solution and provide a systematic proof of our approach’s security.

EEG emotion recognition is crucial in both human-machine interaction and healthcare. However, recognizing emotions across different subjects remains challenging due to individual variability. While existing multi-source domain adaptation methods have been utilized for cross-subject EEG emotion decoding, they often struggle with irrelevant or weakly relevant source domains, leading to negative transfer. Additionally, variations within subdomains are often neglected in these studies. We propose a joint domain adaptation method, Adaptive Source Joint Domain Adaptation (ASJDA) to address these issues. ASJDA utilizes an unsupervised adaptive source selection strategy to select a subset of source domains by evaluating the Jensen-Shannon divergence between the source and target domains, choosing those most relevant to the target. Subsequently, it implements joint domain adaptation with these chosen sources at both the domain and category subdomain levels. Our proposed method outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods, achieving cross-subject accuracies of 96.81% in SEED, 89.69% in SEED-IV, and 69.31% in DEAP. This work significantly advances the state of the art in EEG emotion recognition by effectively addressing the challenges of cross-subject variability. Recent advances in 3D sensor technology have advanced 3D imaging systems. This sparks interest in 3D picture feature extraction and categorization. According to the literature, textural content is essential to visuals. In this case, we extract texture characteristics from three-dimensional photos to improve feature differentiation. Category of volumetric data with texture is possible using this method. We employ feature vectors from Local Binary Patterns (LBP) and Gray-Level Co-occurrence Matrix methods to achieve this. The visual pattern and volumetric data contrast, homogeneity, and local anisotropy are described. The proposed approach was tested using a publicly accessible dataset of modified volumetric textured pictures. Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) and recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) are classified. Our solution outperforms manually constructed techniques for extracting texture characteristics from 3D and 2D data and standard deep-learning networks. Even with few photographs per class, the recommended method improves class distinction and yields good results. Show exceptional accuracy. Integrating the Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) with Local Binary Patterns (LBP) improved classification performance. The GLCM approach, which captures spatial relationships, and the LBP method, which depicts local texture, was advantageous. This hybrid method improved feature extraction and classification, notably for complex 3D medical pictures with subtle texture changes.

On the Fine-Grained Crowd Analysis via Passive WiFi Sensing

Regarding the passive WiFi sensing based crowd analysis, this paper first theoretically investigates its limitations, and then proposes a deep learning based scheme targeted for returning fine-grained crowd states in large surveillance areas. To this end, three key challenges are coped with: to relieve the influences of the randomness and sparsity induced by passive WiFi sensing, an attention-based deep convolutional autoencoder model is designed to recover accurate crowd density maps in a way similar to image reconstruction;to combat the anonymity caused by MAC randomization, following the identification of local high-density crowds (LHDCs) with the density clustering algorithm, i.e. DM-DBSCAN, a bidirectional convolutional LSTM based model is employed to infer LHDC speeds;to overcome the absence of passive WiFi sensing datasets for model training, three semi-synthetic datasets are produced by emulating passive WiFi sensing with practical pedestrian tracking datasets. Extensive experiments confirm that, the proposed scheme significantly outperforms existing WiFi-based methods in terms of crowd density estimation and provides superior crowd speed estimation. More importantly, the scheme can also produce consistent crowd states on a real-world dataset, revealing that it has the ability to support accurate, visualized and real-time crowd monitoring in large surveillance areas. © 2023, CC BY-NC-SA.

In plants, long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) regulate disease resistance against fungi and other pathogens. However, the specific mechanism behind this regulation remains unclear. In this study, we identified disease resistance-related lncRNAs as well as their regulating genes and assessed their functions by infection of cotton ( Gossypium ) chromosome segment substitution lines with Verticillium dahliae . Our results demonstrated that lncRNA7 and its regulating gene Pectin methylesterase inhibitor 13 ( GbPMEI13 ) positively regulated disease resistance via the silencing approach, while ectopic overexpression of GbPMEI13 in Arabidopsis ( Arabidopsis thaliana ) promoted growth and enhanced resistance to V. dahliae . In contrast, lncRNA2 and its regulating gene Polygalacturonase 12 ( GbPG12 ) negatively regulated resistance to V. dahliae . We further found that fungal disease-related agents, including the pectin-derived oligogalacturonide (OG), could downregulate the expression of lncRNA2 and GbPG12 , leading to pectin accumulation. Conversely, OG upregulated the expression of lncRNA7 , which encodes a plant peptide phytosulfokine (PSK-α), which was confirmed by lncRNA7 overexpression and Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (UPLC-MS) experiments. We showed that PSK-α promoted 3-Indoleacetic acid (IAA) accumulation and activated GbPMEI13 expression through Auxin Response Factor 5. Since it is an inhibitor of pectin methylesterase (PME), GbPMEI13 promotes pectin methylation and therefore increases the resistance to V. dahliae . Consistently, we also demonstrated that GbPMEI13 inhibits the mycelial growth and spore germination of V. dahliae in vitro. In this study, we demonstrated that lncRNA7, lncRNA2, and their regulating genes modulate cell wall defense against V. dahliae via auxin-mediated signaling, providing a strategy for cotton breeding.
