We investigate a practical domain adaptation task, called source-free unsupervised domain adaptation (SFUDA), where the source pretrained model is adapted to the target domain without access to the source data. Existing techniques mainly leverage self-supervised pseudo-labeling to achieve class-wise global alignment [24] or rely on local structure extraction that encourages the feature consistency among neighborhoods [48]. While impressive progress has been made, both lines of methods have their own drawbacks – the "global" approach is sensitive to noisy labels while the "local" counterpart suffers from the source bias. In this paper, we present Divide and Contrast (DaC), a new paradigm for SFUDA that strives to connect the good ends of both worlds while bypassing their limitations. Based on the prediction confidence of the source model, DaC divides the target data into source-like and target-specific samples, where either group of samples is treated with tailored goals under an adaptive contrastive learning framework. Specifically, the source-like samples are utilized for learning global class clustering thanks to their relatively clean labels. The more noisy target-specific data are harnessed at the instance level for learning the intrinsic local structures. We further align the source-like domain with the target-specific samples using a memory-based maximum mean discrepancy (MMD) loss to reduce the distribution mismatch. Extensive experiments on VisDA, Office-Home, and the more challenging DomainNet have verified the superior performance of DaC over current state-of-the-art approaches. Several intelligent transportation systems focus on studying the various driver behaviors for numerous objectives. This includes the ability to analyze driver actions, sensitivity, distraction, and response time. As the data collection is one of the major concerns for learning and validating different driving situations, we present a driver behavior switching model validated by a low-cost data collection solution using smartphones. The proposed model is validated using a real dataset to predict the driver behavior in short duration periods. A literature survey on motion detection (specifically driving behavior detection using smartphones) is presented. Multiple Markov Switching Variable Auto-Regression (MSVAR) models are implemented to achieve a sophisticated fitting with the collected driver behavior data. This yields more accurate predictions not only for driver behavior but also for the entire driving situation. The performance of the presented models together with a suitable model selection criteria is also presented. The proposed driver behavior prediction framework can potentially be used in accident prediction and driver safety systems. © 2021, CC BY.

The accuracy of advection has a great influence on the visual effect of fluid simulation. Constrained interpolation profile (CIP) method has been an important advection scheme because of its third-order accuracy and the fact that it only needs to be performed over a compact stencil, but extending it to high-dimensional advection equations is not easy, because it involves complex calculations and large memory overheads, and is usually unstable. In this article, we propose a stable and efficient three-dimensional (3D) CIP scheme which can maintain high accuracy but requires low computation and memory cost. We first construct an efficient two-dimensional (2D) CIP scheme based on dimensional splitting and local Taylor expansions, and then propose an effective way to extend it for 3D applications without decreasing the computational accuracy or affecting the stability. The experimental results show the advantages of our method over the state-of-the-art advection schemes. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Ensuring safety in smart buildings is crucial due to the increasing prevalence of smoke and fire hazards in modern environments. This paper introduces a novel privacy-preserving FL approach based on a CNN1D for smoke and fire detection in smart buildings. Our system integrates data from wearable environmental sensors to train a lightweight, edge-deployable DL-CNN1D model, ensuring data privacy while enabling collaborative learning across distributed clients using Federated Averaging (FedAvg) aggregation. Experiments conducted on a comprehensive air measurement dataset for smoke and fire detection demonstrate exceptional performance, with the global model achieving 99.97% accuracy, 99.96% precision, in smoke and fire recognition. Our model demonstrates a low communication cost of 0.4 MB, underscoring its efficiency for real-time applications. Our FL-based approach represents a significant step towards balancing the need for robust safety systems with growing privacy concerns in smart building environments.

Robust and digital hyper-polarization protocol of nuclear spins via magic sequential sequence

Hyper-polarization of nuclear spins is crucial for advancing nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and quantum information technologies, as nuclear spins typically exhibit extremely low polarization at room temperature due to their small gyro-magnetic ratios. A promising approach to achieving high nuclear spin polarization is transferring the polarization of electron to nuclear spin. The nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond has emerged as a highly effective medium for this purpose, and various hyper-polarization protocols have been developed. Among these, the pulsed polarization (PulsePol) method has been extensively studied due to its robustness against static energy shifts of the electron spin. In this study, we introduce a sequential polarization protocol and identify a series of magic and digital sequences for hyper-polarizing nuclear spins. Notably, we demonstrate that some of these magic sequences exhibit significantly greater robustness compared to the PulsePol protocol in the presence of finite half π pulse duration of the protocol. This enhanced robustness positions our protocol as a more suitable candidate for hyper-polarizing nuclear spins species with large gyromagnetic ratios and also ensures better compatibility with high-efficiency readout techniques at high magnetic fields. Blind image quality assessment (BIQA) is a challenging problem with important real-world applications. Recent efforts attempting to exploit powerful representations by deep neural networks (DNN) are hindered by the lack of subjectively annotated data. This paper presents a novel BIQA method which overcomes this fundamental obstacle. Specifically, we design a pair of collaborative autoencoders (COAE) consisting of a content autoencoder (CAE) and a distortion autoencoder (DAE) that work together to extract content and distortion representations, which are shown to be highly descriptive of image quality. While the CAE follows a standard codec procedure, we introduce the CAE-encoded feature as an extra input to the DAE's decoder for reconstructing distorted images, thus effectively forcing DAE's encoder to extract distortion representations. The self-supervised learning framework allows the COAE including two feature extractors to be trained by almost unlimited amount of data, thus leaving limited samples with annotations to finetune a BIQA model. We will show that the proposed BIQA method achieves state-of-the-art performance and has superior generalization capability over other learning based models. Recently, many websites encourage users to fill in reviews on items and services to improve the quality of personalized recommendation, because of the rich sentiment information hidden in user reviews. However, most existing recommendation methods based on reviews heavily emphasize extracting the rich sentiment information from reviews by using deep learning technologies as far as possible and always ignore the effects of temporal dynamical of user preferences. To address the above issues, we propose DSL- TR, a deep sentiment learning framework for the temporal-aware recommendation, using an intricate combination of bidirectional long short-term memory (BLSTM) and Convolution Neural Network (CNN). It consists of four layers: embedding layer, BLSTM layer, CNN layer and feature fusion layer. In the embedding layer, we explicitly combine the time information in the review embedding layer by regarding the review time as an independent factor. Then, we utilize the BLSTM and CNN networks to extract the long and short-terms of latent features of user and item in parallel. Finally, the factorization machine technique, as a rating predictor, is introduced on the last layer to estimate the rating based on the learned user and item latent features. We conduct extensive experiments on Amazon's four data sets. The results demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms several state-of-art methods consistently.

With the continuous growth in demand for meat and frozen products in the cold chain market, illegally smuggled frozen goods have quickly entered the market due to their low prices, leading to a series of food safety issues. This article proposes a method for identifying the risks of smuggled frozen meat for urban public safety awareness using the YOLOv7 model. The YOLOv7 model is used to detect data captured at various traffic checkpoints, obtaining spatiotemporal information of frozen goods vehicles. This information is then combined with map data to generate vehicle trajectory information. The trajectory similarity between the frozen vehicle trajectories and the specialized database of frozen transportation routes is analyzed using the EDwP distance algorithm. The EDwP algorithm employs a threshold-free approach, dynamically interpolating using the concept of projection, and automatically adapting to non-uniform sampling rates to address the issue of inconsistent trajectory data sampling rates. The experimental results of the YOLOv7-EDwP algorithm were verified by verifying the alerts generated in the recent period through on-site verification by a third-party inspection agency, with a recognition accuracy of 90.77%. This holds significant significance in the detection and warning of smuggled frozen meat.
