Pedestrian detection is one of hot topics in the field of computer vision and pattern recognition, which is of great value to video surveillance, intelligent traffic and human-computer interaction, etc. and how to improve detection rate and speed is the key. Most traditional pedestrian detection methods are based on the pyramid sliding window scanning method, and for images in which the majority of the region does not contain a body, the detection is inefficient. This study presents a body window sampling algorithm based on binarised normed gradients, which can quickly and effectively extract the window of the image that most likely contains human body to be identified, thus greatly improving the detection speed and obtaining a lower false alarm rate. The authors employ the histogram of oriented gradient feature and the linear support vector machine to train the classifier. For the same false test case in comparison with the pyramid scanning method, when the authors used 2,000 sampling windows for detection, they observed a detection rate increase of 11%, the detection speed increased 19.6 times. For 5,000 sampling windows, the detection rate increased by 20% and the detection speed increased 7.8 times. © 2020 Institution of engineering and Technology. All rights reserved.

Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm generates a population of individuals by encoding with a floating point vector, and it is a simple and effective population-based stochastic optimization algorithm for global optimization of continuous space. Because of its excellent performance, DE variants can be applied in a wide range of applications in science and engineering. However, the performance of DE is sensitive to the choice of trial vector generation strategy and the associated control parameters. Therefore, it is necessary to choose appropriate mutation strategy and control parameters when tackling optimization applications. In this paper, an adaptive update mechanism is proposed to update control parameters F and Cr. The experimental results are verified on the CEC 2013 test suite which contains 28 benchmark functions for the evaluation of single objective real parameter optimization. The proposed algorithm is compared with jDE, iwPSO and ccPSO, and experiment results show its good performance. © 2020 - IOS Press and the authors. All rights reserved.

Radiance quantization and dynamic ranges are considered the basic characteristics of a sensor in radiometry. However, their impacts on surface mapping have not been fully investigated and understood (e.g., for different Landsat sensors), while much attention has been paid to the impacts related to other aspects (e.g., spatial resolution, the wavelength of spectral channels, and several spectral channels). In this paper, a synthesized data collection of multispectral reflectance and radiance (with and without considering actual quantization) for the Landsat sensors from hyperspectral records was generated. Based on the synthesized data, the impacts of radiance quantization were discussed in terms of channel reflectance and spectral indices. As the preliminary findings show, the quantization effects on channel reflectance vary among channels, presenting different impacts on spectral indices correspondingly, which affect the measures of between-sensor difference. It also suggests that the effects of quantization may relate to land surface conditions (e.g., land use and land cover) in addition to the sensor characteristics.

Optimization demands exist everywhere in the real world especially in science studies and engineering practices, and it is important that the method to deal with intricacy optimization problems should itself be relative simple. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Differential Evolution (DE) both are simple evolutionary algorithms (EAs) which are proposed for single-objective optimization and both of them have been proved to be efficient methods for optimizing applications, however, there are still some weakness existing within them. A innovative evolutionary method named QUasi-Affine TRansformation Evolutionary (QUATRE) algorithm which is derived from, also tackles some weaknesses of PSO and DE algorithm, and obtains better performance on commonly used test suites. The key characteristic of QUATRE is that an automatically generated matrix named evolution matrix M is implemented in evolutionary process, which is taken as an alternative of employing the crossover rate CR. Here in this paper, we present a novel QUATRE variant, named IS-QUATRE, which can explore the search area in a better way comparison with the previous method, and relatively good optimization ability can be obtained by our proposed IS-QUATRE algorithm under CEC2013 test suit. And the conducted experimental results validate that our proposed IS-QUATRE is competitive with some other famous PSO and DE variants. © 2020 - IOS Press and the authors. All rights reserved.

A hybrid machine learning method is proposed for wildfire susceptibility mapping. For modeling a geographical information system (GIS) database including 11 influencing factors and 262 fire locations from 2013 to 2018 is used for developing an integrated multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS). The cat swarm optimization (CSO) algorithm tunes the parameters of the MARS in order to generate accurate susceptibility maps. From the Pearson correlation results, it is observed that land use, temperature, and slope angle have strong correlation with the fire severity. The results demonstrate that the prediction capability of the MARS-CSO model outperforms model tree, reduced error pruning tree and MARS. The resulting wildfire risk map using MARS-CSO reveals that 20% of the study areas is categorized in the very low wildfire risk class, whereas 40% is under the very high class of fire hazard. © 2023 The Author(s). Deep Domain Adaptation for Pavement Crack Detection

Deep learning-based pavement cracks detection methods often require large-scale labels with detailed crack location information to learn accurate predictions. In practice, however, crack locations are very difficult to be manually annotated due to various visual patterns of pavement crack. In this paper, we propose a Deep Domain Adaptation-based Crack Detection Network (DDACDN), which learns domain invariant features by taking advantage of the source domain knowledge to predict the multi-category crack location information in the target domain, where only image-level labels are available. Specifically, DDACDN first extracts crack features from both the source and target domain by a two-branch weights-shared backbone network. And in an effort to achieve the cross-domain adaptation, an intermediate domain is constructed by aggregating the three-scale features from the feature space of each domain to adapt the crack features from the source domain to the target domain. Finally, the network involves the knowledge of both domains and is trained to recognize and localize pavement cracks. To facilitate accurate training and validation for domain adaptation, we use two challenging pavement crack datasets CQU-BPDD and RDD2020. Furthermore, we construct a new large-scale Bituminous Pavement Multi-label Disease dataset named CQU-BPMDD, which contains 38994 high-resolution pavement disease images to further evaluate the robustness of our model. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DDACDN outperforms state-of-the-art pavement crack detection methods in predicting the crack location on the target domain. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. Defect distribution prediction is a meaningful topic because software defects are the fundamental cause of many attacks and data loss. Building accurate prediction models can help developers find bugs and prioritize their testing efforts. Previous researches focus on exploring different machine learning algorithms based on the features that encode the characteristics of *** problem of data redundancy exists in software defect data set, which has great influence on prediction *** propose a defect distribution prediction model(Deep belief network prediction model, DBNPM), a system for detecting whether a program module contains defects. The key insight of DBNPM is Deep belief network(DBN)technology, which is an effective deep learning technique in image processing and natural language processing,whose features are similar to defects in source *** results show that DBNPM can efficiently extract and process the data characteristics of source program and the performance is better than Support vector machine(SVM), Locally linear embedding SVM(LLE-SVM), and Neighborhood preserving embedding SVM(NPE-SVM).

With the development of presentation attacks, Automated Fingerprint Recognition Systems(AFRSs) are vulnerable to presentation attack. Thus, numerous methods of presentation attack detection(PAD) have been proposed to ensure the normal utilization of AFRS. However, the demand of large-scale presentation attack images and the low-level generalization ability always astrict existing PAD methods' actual performances. Therefore, we propose a novel Zero-Shot Presentation Attack Detection Model to guarantee the generalization of the PAD model. The proposed ZSPAD-Model based on generative model does not utilize any negative samples in the process of establishment, which ensures the robustness for various types or materials based presentation attack. Different from other auto-encoder based model, the Fine-grained Map architecture is proposed to refine the reconstruction error of the auto-encoder networks and a task-specific gaussian model is utilized to improve the quality of clustering. Meanwhile, in order to improve the performance of the proposed model, 9 confidence scores are discussed in this article. Experimental results showed that the ZSPAD-Model is the state of the art for ZSPAD, and the MS-Score is the best confidence score. Compared with existing methods, the proposed ZSPAD-Model performs better than the feature-based method and under the multi-shot setting, the proposed method overperforms the learning based method with little training data. Single image super-resolution (SISR) has played an important role in the field of image processing. Recent generative adversarial networks (GANs) can achieve excellent results on low-resolution images with small samples. However, there are little literatures summarizing different GANs in SISR. In this paper, we conduct a comparative study of GANs from different perspectives. We first take a look at developments of GANs. Second, we present popular architectures for GANs in big and small samples for image applications. Then, we analyze motivations, implementations and differences of GANs based optimization methods and discriminative learning for image super-resolution in terms of supervised, semi-supervised and unsupervised manners, where these GANs are analyzed via integrating different network architectures, prior knowledge, loss functions and multiple tasks. Next, we compare performance of these popular GANs on public datasets via quantitative and qualitative analysis in SISR. Aiming at the issues that affect the gait recognition, such as outfit changes and carryon-objects during gait recognition, this paper proposes a gait recognition method based on the improved GaitSet network, which relies on the fusion of human posture and human contour. This method introduces key points of human posture, and improves the precision of human contour extraction by introducing the key points of human posture. At the same time, the human posture map composed of the key points of human posture is used as the synchronous attribute of the contour map to extract gait features. Because key points focus on the inherent walking characteristics of human body, they are not affected by the external information such as clothing and carrying objects. Combined with the rich gait change attributes of human contour, it can effectively improve the accuracy and robustness of the gait recognition model. In scenes of human body wearing coats, our experimental results show that the accuracy of the proposed method in CASIA-B gait data set and self-built database can reach over 73.5% accuracy.
