A Trust-Based Personalized Differential Privacy Guarantees for Online Social Networks

Online social networks have emerged as a significant data source, but the extensive collection and utilization of personal information have given rise to profound concerns regarding privacy. From a legislative and policy perspective, and in alignment with the concept of privacy as control, users have the right to control their personal privacy information. However, users often encounter challenges in terms of understanding and effectively managing their privacy settings to align with their specific privacy requirements. To address this issue, in this paper, we incorporate the concept of trust and propose a trust-based personalized differential privacy model for online social networks, denoted as TPDP, which relies on a trusted central server to facilitate its operation. Specifically, when a user requests access to another user's personal information, the TPDP mechanism provides a privacy response, where the privacy level is determined based on the direct and indirect trust values among users, calculated automatically by the trusted central server. Furthermore, the proposed TPDP model offers user-to-user personalized differential privacy protection from the perspectives of network structures, trust-related factors, and trust propagation patterns. Finally, we validate the model's feasibility and assess the privacy-utility trade-off, as well as its robustness against attacks, through theoretical analysis and performance evaluation. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

ChatGPT, an AI-based chatbot, offers coherent and useful replies based on analysis of large volumes of data. In this article, leading academics, scientists, distinguish researchers and engineers discuss the transformative effects of ChatGPT on modern education. This research discusses ChatGPT capabilities and its use in the education sector, identifies potential concerns and challenges. Our preliminary evaluation shows that ChatGPT perform differently in different subject areas including finance, coding, maths, and general public queries. While ChatGPT has the ability to help educators by creating instructional content, offering suggestions and acting as an online educator to learners by answering questions, transforming education through smartphones and IoT gadgets, and promoting group work, there are clear drawbacks in its use, such as the possibility of producing inaccurate or false data and circumventing duplicate content (plagiarism) detectors where originality is essential. The often reported "hallucinations" within GenerativeAI in general, and also relevant for ChatGPT, can render its use of limited benefit where accuracy is essential. What ChatGPT lacks is a stochastic measure to help provide sincere and sensitive communication with its users. Academic regulations and evaluation practices used in educational institutions need to be updated, should ChatGPT be used as a tool in education. To address the transformative effects of ChatGPT on the learning environment, educating teachers and students alike about its capabilities and limitations will be crucial. © 2023 The Authors

Due to the convenience and popularity of Web applications, they have become a prime target for attackers. As the main programming language for Web applications, many methods have been proposed for detecting malicious JavaScript, among which static analysis-based methods play an important role because of their high effectiveness and efficiency. However, obfuscation techniques are commonly used in JavaScript, which makes the features extracted by static analysis contain many useless and disguised features, leading to many false positives and false negatives in detection results. In this paper, we propose a novel method to find out the essential features related to the semantics of JavaScript code. Specifically, we develop JS-Revealer, a robust, effective, scalable, and interpretable detector for malicious JavaScript. To test the capabilities of JSRevealer, we conduct comparative experiments with four other state-of-the-art malicious JavaScript detection tools. The experimental results show that JSRevealer has an average F1 of 84.8% on the data obfuscated by different obfuscators, which is 21.6%, 22.3%, 18.7%, and 22.9% higher than the tools CUJO, ZOZZLE, JAST, and JSTAP, respectively. Moreover, the detection results of JSRevealer can be interpreted, which can provide meaningful insights for further security research.

Depressive Disorders (DD) is one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the world that may lead to suicide cases. To prevent the latter, ubiquitous early detection systems may be effective. Recent studies have since researched the development of such systems by exploiting several forms of data, including video, audio, Ecological Momentary Assessments (EMA), and passive sensing data using sensors embedded in mobile devices. To summarize the trends, opportunities, and existing challenges in this field, this study reviewed 15 papers to answer four research questions. EMA was the most popular data to be used in this task, but other approaches, such as using video, audio, and typing behaviors, may be considered due to the subjectivity of EMA. These data were typically recorded using smartphones and analyzed using Machine Learning (ML). However, most of the developed systems had yet to be implemented. Overall, it was concluded that further studies may need to explore usages of more objective data in multimodal approaches as well as consider using Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) to deploy these systems to provide more effective and efficient diagnoses. Future studies must also take into account the existing challenges of the data and infrastructures, such as the weaknesses of several data types, limitations of mobile devices, as well as the challenges of diagnosis approaches. © 2023 IEEE.

Object detection tasks, crucial in safety-critical systems like autonomous driving, focus on pinpointing object locations. These detectors are known to be susceptible to backdoor attacks. However, existing backdoor techniques have primarily been adapted from classification tasks, overlooking deeper vulnerabilities specific to object detection. This paper is dedicated to bridging this gap by introducing Detector Collapse (DC), a brand-new backdoor attack paradigm tailored for object detection. DC is designed to instantly incapacitate detectors (i.e., severely impairing detector's performance and culminating in a denial-of-service). To this end, we develop two innovative attack schemes: SPONGE for triggering widespread misidentifications and BLINDING for rendering objects invisible. Remarkably, we introduce a novel poisoning strategy exploiting natural objects, enabling DC to act as a practical backdoor in real-world environments. Our experiments on different detectors across several benchmarks show a significant improvement (∼10%-60% absolute and ∼2-7× relative) in attack efficacy over state-of-the-art attacks. We propose a novel transient chaotic neural network model with a nonlinear delayed self-feedback term, aiming to leverage its complex dynamical behavior for algorithm optimization. To avoid the influence of chance, we conduct experiments using randomly generated data and analyze the model's chaotic dynamical behavior by visualizing the stability of the neurons through inverse bifurcation diagrams and maximum Lyapunov exponent diagrams. The simulation results demonstrate the remarkable effectiveness of this new model in network optimization, with a success rate even reaching 100%, surpassing previous chaotic neural network models. Notably, in the following sections, all nonlinear terms are represented using trigonometric functions. © 2023 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

The accuracy of data analysis depends on data quality, and addressing data consistency issues is a key challenge to improve it. Constant Conditional Functional Dependency (CCFD) is an effective approach that ensures data consistency by enforcing bindings of semantically related values, thus providing quality assurance for data analysis and decision-making processes. However, with the growth of data scale, especially the increasing number of data tuples and attributes, existing single-machine CCFD discovery algorithms face issues of low computational efficiency and lengthy computation time. This paper proposes a time-efficient distributed CCFD discovery algorithm (DCCFD). Through the optimization of data preprocessing and index mapping, the data organization structure is enhanced, laying the foundation for the discovery of CCFDs under distributed conditions. The Spark parallel computing framework is used to partition the dataset, which accelerates the parallel loading and processing of data. Additionally, this algorithm ensures accuracy and processing speed when discovering dependencies by efficiently generating frequent itemsets and verifying CCFDs in parallel. Experiments on multiple real datasets show that, especially with the complex Airline dataset, the DCCFD algorithm not only accurately discovers CCFDs, but also reduces the average running time by 75.64% compared with the preCFDMiner algorithm.

Accurate day-ahead electricity price forecasting is crucial for both power companies’ interests and systems’ stability. However, it faces numerous challenges due to various uncertainties, especially the increasingly frequent extreme weather events. Australia’s National Electricity Market (ANEM) experiences the highest price volatility. To improve the forecasting accuracy in ANEM, this paper proposes a residual electricity price forecasting method with Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KAN) for day-ahead 30-min electricity price pre-diction. Unlike the Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP), KAN includes learnable activation functions and shifts the previous learning from points to edges, making it more sensitive to features. Thus, KAN can capture more complicated nonlinearities of electricity prices in ANEM. Furthermore, we use discrete Fourier transform to create activation functions to reduce the effects of wild price swings and ensure a stable learning process. Our experimental results, based on actual electricity price data from the Australian Energy Market Operator, demonstrate that our method is more accurate than the traditional MLP approach. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. In this paper,we study the mechanism design problem of combinatorial reverse auction for 4 PL transportation service procurement(TSP) considering price and multiple nonprice *** order to achieve efficient winner determination and transportation request allocation,we develop a 0-1 programing model to minimize social cost,where social cost includes real transportation cost of 3 PLs and the costs incurred by non-price attributes.A multi-attribute VCG(MA-VCG) reverse auction mechanism is proposed,which satisfies efficiency,incentive compatibility,individual rationality,and budget ***,a numerical example is designed to demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed ***,sensitivity analysis is implemented to illustrate the influences of attribute preference,cost coefficient and other parameters on auction results.

Numerous nations have prioritised the inclusion of citizens with disabilities, such as hearing loss, in all aspects of social life. Sign language is used by this population, yet they still have trouble communicating with others. Many sign language apps are being created to help bridge the communication gap as a result of technology advances enabled by the widespread use of smartphones. These apps are widely used because they are accessible and inexpensive. The services and capabilities they offer and the quality of their content, however, differ greatly. Evaluation of the quality of the content provided by these applications is necessary if they are to have any kind of real effect. A thorough evaluation like this will inspire developers to work hard on new apps, which will lead to improved software development and experience overall. This research used a systematic literature review (SLR) method, which is recognised in gaining a broad understanding of the study whilst offering additional information for future investigations. SLR was adopted in this research for smartphone-based sign language apps to understand the area and main discussion aspects utilised in the assessment. These studies were reviewed on the basis of related work analysis, main issues, discussions and methodological aspects. Results revealed that the evaluation of sign language mobile apps is scarce. Thus, we proposed a future direction for the quality assessment of these apps. The findings will benefit normal-hearing and hearing-impaired users and open up a new area where researchers and developers could work together on sign language mobile apps. The results will help hearing and non-hearing users and will pave the way for future collaboration between academicians and app developers in the field of sign language technology. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2023.
