The social network-based recommendation model use social network information to mitigate data sparsity issues and improve the accuracy of recommendation models. However, In most social network-based recommendation algorithms, the social neighbors' contributions are difficult to distinguish from the central user's, neglecting hidden correlations in social infor-mation. In order to solve this problem, this paper presents a graph-based contrastive learning framework for social-enhanced recommendation (SoGCLR) that utilizes implicit social information captured by a new social relation attention mechanism, en-rich user representations, and improve model robustness through graph-based contrastive learning. Specifically, the paper captures the degree of contribution of each neighbor in the social graph to the central user through a social relation attention layer, thus obtaining hidden correlations in social information, and further integrates this with user information in the user-item interaction graph to enrich user representations. In addition, the paper incorporates graph-based contrastive learning into the recommendation task using cross-layer contrastive learning, calculating contrastive loss and mapping nodes with similar but different exposure rates to nearby regions to mitigate exposure bias issues. Results from Ciao and Epinions demonstrate that SoGCLR reduces RMSE and MAE by 1.33% to 1.84% compared with baseline models. © 2023 IEEE.

Nowadays, high-level synthesis (HLS) has gained prominence for FPGA-based architecture prototyping, enhancing productivity significantly. Despite this advancement, HLS tools are impeded by a critical drawback: they lack support for dynamic memory management (DMM), leading to static mem-ory allocation and suboptimal use of memory resources. In response, numerous efforts have been made to develop DMM solutions compatible with HLS. However, our analysis indicates that existing solutions fail to concurrently meet the desired trifecta of scalability (efficient management of memory of any size), efficiency (minimal latency in memory (de-)allocation), and robustness (low allocation failure rates). This limitation hampers their applicability in real-world scenarios. In this paper, we introduce GraDMM, a “three-birds-one- stone” solution that comprehensively enhances the scalability, efficiency, and robustness of DMM. The key insight is to formulate memory (de-)allocation as graph analytics and lever-age sophisticated FPGA-based graph processing techniques. To achieve scalability, GraDMM specializes a simplified pipeline that significantly suppresses resource utilization expansion caused by managed memory scaling. This is crucial for managing arbitrarily sized memory on resource-limited FPGA platforms. For efficiency, GraDMM implements a data-centric concurrent traversal scheme and a shortcut-assisted fast traversal policy to accelerate (de-)allocation-guided graph traversal, reducing mem-ory (de-)allocation latency. To enhance robustness, GraDMM incorporates an adaptive memory defragmenter that defragments managed memory to minimize fragmentation-induced allocation failures. GraDMM is encapsulated as a library, providing high- level interfaces for users and ensuring synthesizability with Vi- vado HLS. Dynamic graphs (DG) describe dynamic interactions between entities in many practical scenarios. Most existing DG representation learning models combine graph convolutional network and sequence neural network, which model spatial-temporal dependencies through two different types of neural networks. However, this hybrid design cannot well capture the spatial-temporal continuity of a DG. In this paper, we propose a tensor graph convolutional network to learn DG representations in one convolution framework based on the tensor product with the following two-fold ideas: a) representing the information of DG by tensor form;b) adopting tensor product to design a tensor graph convolutional network modeling spatial-temporal feature simultaneously. The emergence of large-scale pre-trained vision foundation models has greatly advanced the medical imaging field through the pre-training and fine-tuning paradigm. However, selecting appropriate medical data for downstream fine-tuning remains a significant challenge considering its annotation cost, privacy concerns, and the detrimental effects of confounding variables. In this work, we present a confounder-aware medical data selection approach for medical dataset curation aiming to select minimal representative data by strategically mitigating the undesirable impact of confounding variables while preserving the natural distribution of the dataset. Our approach first identifies confounding variables within data and then develops a distance-based data selection strategy for confounder-aware sampling with a constrained budget in the data size. We validate the superiority of our approach through extensive experiments across diverse medical imaging modalities, highlighting its effectiveness in addressing the substantial impact of confounding variables and enhancing the fine-tuning efficiency in the medical imaging domain, compared to other data selection approaches. © 2025 IEEE.

Efficiently deploying neural network models on heterogeneous edge systems faces unique challenges. Two major issues are underutilized pipelines caused by hardware heterogeneity and explosive growth of architecture search space. To address these challenges, we propose ExpoNAS, a framework enabling fast deployment-oriented neural architecture search on heterogeneous platforms. ExpoNAS evaluates model partitioning and deployability before search to meet accuracy and latency constraints. However, repeated partitioning leads to exponential growth in architecture search space. We first observe a strong correlation between operational exposure and accuracy improvement, and then we propose an exposure-based reduction technique that excludes the operations of low exposure. By removing these non-critical operations, the exposure-based pruning successfully reduces architecture search time. Our experiments on popular datasets show that the ExpoNAS pipelined design improves execution efficiency by a factor of 2 compared to traditional batch processing. Without compromising accuracy, ExpoNAS is able to reduce the architecture search time by 47.5% for discovering high-accuracy networks, compared to the SOTA NAS strategies. © 2023 IEEE.

Fed-AugMix: Balancing Privacy and Utility via data Augmentation

Gradient leakage attacks pose a significant threat to the privacy guarantees of federated learning. While distortion-based protection mechanisms are commonly employed to mitigate this issue, they often lead to notable performance degradation. Existing methods struggle to preserve model performance while ensuring privacy. To address this challenge, we propose a novel data augmentation-based framework designed to achieve a favorable privacy-utility trade-off, with the potential to enhance model performance in certain cases. Our framework incorporates the AugMix algorithm at the client level, enabling data augmentation with controllable severity. By integrating the Jensen-Shannon divergence into the loss function, we embed the distortion introduced by AugMix into the model gradients, effectively safeguarding privacy against deep leakage attacks. Moreover, the JS divergence promotes model consistency across different augmentations of the same image, enhancing both robustness and performance. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and stability of our method in protecting privacy. Furthermore, our approach maintains, and in some cases improves, model performance, showcasing its ability to achieve a robust privacy-utility trade-off. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. An ADRC-Incorporated Stochastic Gradient Descent Algorithm for Latent Factor Analysis

High-dimensional and incomplete (HDI) matrix contains many complex interactions between numerous nodes. A stochastic gradient descent (SGD)-based latent factor analysis (LFA) model is remarkably effective in extracting valuable information from an HDI matrix. However, such a model commonly encounters the problem of slow convergence because a standard SGD algorithm only considers the current learning error to compute the stochastic gradient without considering the historical and future state of the learning error. To address this critical issue, this paper innovatively proposes an ADRC-incorporated SGD (ADS) algorithm by refining the instance learning error by considering the historical and future state by following the principle of an ADRC controller. With it, an ADS-based LFA model is further achieved for fast and accurate latent factor analysis on an HDI matrix. Empirical studies on two HDI datasets demonstrate that the proposed model outperforms the state-of-the-art LFA models in terms of computational efficiency and accuracy for predicting the missing data of an HDI matrix. Robin: A Novel Method to Produce Robust Interpreters for Deep Learning-Based Code Classifiers

Deep learning has been widely used in source code classification tasks, such as code classification according to their functionalities, code authorship attribution, and vulnerability detection. Unfortunately, the black-box nature of deep learning makes it hard to interpret and understand why a classifier (i.e., classification model) makes a particular prediction on a given example. This lack of interpretability (or explainability) might have hindered their adoption by practitioners because it is not clear when they should or should not trust a classifier's prediction. The lack of interpretability has motivated a number of studies in recent years. However, existing methods are neither robust nor able to cope with out-of-distribution examples. In this paper, we propose a novel method to produce Robust interpreters for a given deep learning-based code classifier;the method is dubbed Robin. The key idea behind Robin is a novel hybrid structure combining an interpreter and two approximators, while leveraging the ideas of adversarial training and data augmentation. Experimental results show that on average the interpreter produced by Robin achieves a 6.11% higher fidelity (evaluated on the classifier), 67.22% higher fidelity (evaluated on the approximator), and 15.87x higher robustness than that of the three existing interpreters we evaluated. Moreover, the interpreter is 47.31% less affected by out-of-distribution examples than that of LEMNA. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
