Microgrids that integrate high-penetration renewable energy sources (RESs), seawater desalination, energy storage, and hydrogen production are promising ways to reduce RESs curtailment and improve the system operational economics. This work investigates the holistic planning and operation of the hybrid hydrogen-electrical microgrids. To mitigate the uncertainty associated with RESs power outputs, we propose a scenario-based two-stage stochastic programming (SP) where the first stage and the second stage aim to minimize the total investment costs and the operational costs, respectively. The proposed SP optimizes the capacities of microgrids facilities while considering investment and operational costs (e.g., daily capital depreciation, RESs curtailment costs, and electricity purchasing costs). An improved scenario reduction method which incorporates Cholesky decomposition and k-means clustering algorithm is employed to solve this problem. Case studies are conducted on a microgrid test system. The results show that the proposed two-stage SP demonstrates enhanced utilization of RESs and reducing total investment and operational costs. The safe and stable operation of the hydrogen-electrical microgrids is also satisfied. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. Co., Ltd. 2025.

This paper presents a novel blind image deblurring algorithm based on extreme gradient and dark channel priors. Traditional methods relying solely on local maximum or minimum gradient priors to estimate the latent image often suffer from ringing artifacts or loss of high frequency information in low gradient areas. To solve those problems, we combine local minimum and maximum gradient prior information to better constrain the solution space. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves better restoration performance with detail preservation, noise suppression, and robustness on blurry images including face, low light scene, and text. In addition, our algorithm outperforms other methods on Levin and Köhler datasets, with significant improvement in PSNR and SSIM.

Accurately predicting the grade of gliomas is crucial for choosing right treatment plans. While current methods using radiomics and deep learning can predict glioma grades effectively using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), they overlook dynamic changes in the tumor and its neighboring areas. To address this issue, we propose a tumor state-space network (TSSNet), which fully exploits changes in the tumor region and its surroundings through dynamical updating strategy. The experimental results demonstrated that TSSNet achieves 90.32% accuracy and 93.55% area under the curve (AUC) for the prediction of high-grade and low-grade gliomas, respectively, which are 2.4% and 2.5% higher than the best state-of-the-art deep learning models. Moreover, the proposed state-space module can effectively enhance prediction performance, which is advantageous for personalized glioma treatment. © 2024 IEEE.

Intensity Confusion Matters: An Intensity-Distance Guided Loss for Bronchus Segmentation

Automatic segmentation of the bronchial tree from CT imaging is important, as it provides structural information for disease diagnosis. Despite the merits of previous automatic bronchus segmentation methods, they have paied less attention to the issue we term as Intensity Confusion, wherein the intensity values of certain background voxels approach those of the foreground voxels within bronchi. Conversely, the intensity values of some foreground voxels are nearly identical to those of background voxels. This proximity in intensity values introduces significant challenges to neural network methodologies. To address the issue, we introduce a novel Intensity-Distance Guided loss function, which assigns adaptive weights to different image voxels for mining hard samples that cause the intensity confusion. The proposed loss estimates the voxel-level hardness of samples, on the basis of the following intensity and distance priors. We regard a voxel as a hard sample if it is in: (1) the background and has an intensity value close to the bronchus region;(2) the bronchus region and is of higher intensity than most voxels inside the bronchus;(3) the background region and at a short distance from the bronchus. Extensive experiments not only show the superiority of our method compared with the state-of-the-art methods, but also verify that tackling the intensity confusion issue helps to significantly improve bronchus segmentation. The use of eye movements for identifying intrinsic human psychological changes is a hot topic, and the identification of eye states in specific scenarios is the basis for analyzing the test taker's instantaneous psychological response state and thus for testing implicit driving quality deficits. Infrared eye images are difficult to visualize eye movements, and traditional eye image processing results are not suitable for eye state analysis. In order to make the eye images show the eye movements, a feature extraction method based on contours and key point is proposed for infrared eye images. To extract the eye contour features, the iris and eyelid contours are extracted based on the variation of gray values between the points located on the boundary and their surroundings;for the extraction of eye key point features, a network design with a combination of dlib and residual structure is used to extract the pupil and eyelid key points, respectively. The experimental results show that the method can represent the relative positions of the pupil, iris and eyelid separately with little computational effort, which can intuitively show the eye movement and thus reduce the stress of subsequent eye state recognition. © 2023 SPIE.

Given the critical role of rotating machinery in industrial cyber-physical systems (ICPS), ensuring their reliable operation is essential for the stability and safety of ICPS. Deep neural networks have demonstrated competitive results for intelligent fault diagnosis, which are usually trained via the historical data of all fault modes. However, in real engineering, it is usually difficult to collect samples and exhaust all failures during the training stage. As a result, out-of-distribution fault diagnosis (OOD-FD) becomes a more realistic problem that requires the methods to not only accurately diagnose the known faults, but also effectively recognize unknown ones. Therefore, a novel orthogonal anchor clustering with focal attention (FA-OAC) is proposed in this paper for OOD-FD. Firstly, an orthogonal anchor clustering (OAC) algorithm is proposed to fix the class center of each fault mode orthogonally and distinguish the known and unknown faults at the class level. Then, because the identifiability of different fault modes changes a lot in OOD-FD, the focal attention mechanism is applied to dynamically adjust the attention to different fault modes according to the distance loss of OAC, thus addressing the identifiability imbalance problem. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, different OOD-FD tasks are designed based on two rotating machinery datasets. The experimental results and comparison with state-of-the-art fault diagnosis methods have demonstrated that the proposed method has improved the OOD-FD performance greatly and therefore provides an effective tool in real engineering. © 2023 IEEE.

Incentive Mechanism Design for Federated Learning With Dynamic Network Pricing

Federated learning protects users' data privacy by sharing users' local model parameters (instead of raw data) with a server. However, when massive users train a large machine learning model through federated learning, the dynamically varying and often heavy communication overhead can put significant pressure on the network operator. The operator may choose to dynamically change the network prices in response, which will eventually affect the payoffs of the server and users. This paper considers the under-explored yet important issue of the joint design of participation incentives (for encouraging users' contribution to federated learning) and network pricing (for managing network resources). Due to heterogeneous users' private information and multi-dimensional decisions, the optimization problems in Stage I of multi-stage games are non-convex. Nevertheless, we are able to analytically derive the corresponding optimal contract and pricing mechanism through proper transformations of constraints, variables, and functions, under three interaction structures of the participants. We show that the coordinated structure is better than the two uncoordinated structures, as it avoids the selfish behaviors of the network operator and the server;the vertically uncoordinated structure is better than the horizontally uncoordinated structure, as it avoids the interests misalignment between the server and the network operator. We also propose multi-period network pricing to reduce the implementation complexity of dynamic pricing. Numerical results based on real-world datasets show that our proposed mechanisms decrease the server's cost by up to 24.87% and increase the network operator's profit by up to 1245.25%, compared with the state-of-the-art benchmarks. © 2025 IEEE. This paper investigates an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) aided millimeter-wave integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system. Specifically, based on the passive beam scanning in the downlink, the IRS finds the optimal beam for reflecting the signals from the base station to a communication user. Meanwhile, the IRS estimates the angle of a nearby target based on its echo signal received by the sensing elements mounted on the IRS (i.e., semi-passive IRS). We propose an ISAC protocol for achieving the above objective via simultaneous (beam) training and sensing (STAS). Then, we derive the achievable rate of the communication user and the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) of the angle estimation for the sensing target in closed-form. The achievable rate and CRB exhibit different performance against the duration of beam scanning. Specifically, the average achievable rate initially rises and subsequently declines, while the CRB monotonically decreases. Consequently, the duration of beam scanning should be carefully selected to balance communication and sensing performance. Simulation results have verified our analytical findings and shown that, thanks to the efficient use of downlink beam scanning signal for simultaneous communication and target sensing, the STAS protocol outperforms the benchmark protocol with orthogonal beam training and sensing. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, an integrated sensing, communication, and computation over-the-air (ISCCO) architecture is developed, where sensors perform radar sensing, information communication and computation at the same spectrum by combining over-the-air computation (AirComp) with dual-functional radar-communication techniques. Under the omni-directional and directional radar, beampattern design problems are formulated aiming at minimizing the AirComp error. A tradeoff beampattern design is further investigated to balance the performance of radar sensing and AirComp. To deal with these non-convex problems, the alternating optimization approach has been proposed, where the optimal beampatterns of radars and the access point are obtained by the projected gradient descent method. Simulations are further conducted to illustrate the performances of the proposed beampattern designs.
