Software Defined Networks (SDN) decouples control plane and data plane, which simplifies network management. However, there are still some security threats which limit the large scale deployment of SDN. In this paper, we present a solution which integrates Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology with SDN in the southbound interface to fulfill secure communication between controller and switches. Rather than merely employ Transport Level Security (TLS) protocol in OpenFlow standard, the proposed scheme can prevent the Man-In-The-Middle (MITM) attack. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.

A variety of faults often occurduring the operation of PV arrays, which may seriously affect the normal operation of the system, the machine diagnosis of the types of fault has become a hotspot in the field of photovoltaic power generation. This paper proposes a novel fault diagnostic technique for photovoltaic systems based on Cascaded Forest. Through the in-depth analysis of the output of PV arrays froma data platform of ShijiazhuangKelin Electric Co, the input variables of the diagnosis model are obtained. Compared with other fault diagnosis methods for the PV array, the proposed method can work under a small number of tagged data and the system can be run online and real-time. Finally, the experimental results show that the fault diagnosis method for the PV array based on the cascading forests can effectively detect four types of fault for PV array such as short-circuit, open-circuit, abnormal degradation and partial shading. This method has a good value for the intelligent fault diagnosis of PV. © 2017 Association for computing Machinery.

Multicast performs better than unicast in delivering the same content from a fixed single source to a set of destinations. Many efforts have been made to optimize such kind of deterministic multicast, such as minimizing the transmission cost of each multicast session. In practice, it is not necessary that the source of each multicast session has to be in a specific location, as long as certain constraints are satisfied. Accordingly, applications usually meet a novel multicast with uncertain sources, ie, uncertain multicast. That is, multiple nodes have the responsibility to act as the root node of a multicast session. Prior proposals have addressed an uncertain multicast by constructing the minimum cost forest. However, it is still unknown how to efficiently share the network resources, when a set of uncertain multicast occupies the network simultaneously. To tackle such a challenging issue, we present the packing problem of uncertain multicasts (MPU) to minimize the total transmission cost, under the constraint of link capacity. We prove that the MPU problem is NP-hard. An intrinsic solution is constructing the minimum cost forest for each uncertain multicast individually. This method, however, is inefficient and may be infeasible because of the constraint of link capacity. Thus, we design 2 dedicated greedy methods, named priority-based and adjusting congested link, to approximate the optimal solution. The comprehensive results indicate that both of our 2 methods can find a feasible solution for the MPU problem. Moreover, given a set of uncertain multicasts, the adjusting congested link method can generate a desired transmission structure for each uncertain multicast and achieve the least total cost when packing them. With the emergence of large, heterogeneous, shared computing clusters, their efficient use by mixed distributed workloads and tenants remains an important challenge. This paper focuses on scheduling of batches of similar jobs on the cluster of machines with similar characteristics to fully utilize the resources at the node and reduce the energy consumption of the datacenter. We use a novel algorithm to find the best fit machine in that cluster. We perform hierarchical clustering to identify common groups of jobs and common groups of machines, which is a more efficient way of clustering than the conventional k-means clustering. To estimate the energy saving, we analyze a recent Google release of scheduler request and utilization data across a large (12500+) general-purpose compute cluster over 29 days. We offer a statistical profile of the data, with several interesting discoveries regarding batching similar tasks in a heterogeneous dataset, CPU and memory consumptions, task durations, and others. © 2016 IEEE.

cloud computing facilitates convenient and on-demand network access to a centralized pool of resources. Currently, many users prefer to outsource data to the cloud in order to mitigate the burden of local storage. However, storing sensitive data on remote servers poses privacy challenges and is currently a source of concern. SE (Searchable Encryption) is a positive way to protect users sensitive data, while preserving search ability on the server side. SE allows the server to search encrypted data without leaking information in plaintext data. The two main branches of SE are SSE (Searchable Symmetric Encryption) and PEKS (Public key Encryption with Keyword Search). SSE allows only private key holders to produce ciphertexts and to create trapdoors for search, whereas PEKS enables a number of users who know the public key to produce ciphertexts but allows only the private key holder to create trapdoors. This article surveys the two main techniques of SE: SSE and PEKS. Different SE schemes are categorized and compared in terms of functionality, efficiency, and security. Moreover, we point out some valuable directions for future work on SE schemes.

Intra prediction of HEVC supports up to 33 directional modes compared to 8 such modes in H.264/AVC. Employing many more prediction orientations, HEVC can reflect the directional properties of a coding picture more accurately. Although these directional modes are well designed and show good coding performance, the directional prediction strategy can still be improved. In this paper, an alternative diagonal up-left prediction mode is introduced. Two diagonal left reference samples are utilized to predict the mode with appropriate prediction weights. With negligible computing cost, the proposed prediction mode achieves better coding performance than the same directional mode of HEVC.

The e-government system plays a prominent part in government's office work, however, in the development process, there exist some problems currently, such as repeated development of common functions but hard to satisfy various personalized needs, independence of different systems which makes information difficult to share. These problems have seriously hindered development progress, increased development cost, and may result in information isolated islands. To solve these problems, this paper proposes an e-government oriented BPM OA platform, and introduces its design and implementation process. To achieve rapid development, by analysis and abstraction, we extract main features of common e-government systems and make them into configurable functions. The powerful form builder, the explicit authority management method and the BPMN 2.0 based workflow engine can significantly simplify the development and deployment process, promote the inter-system information exchange, and improve development efficiency.

This paper proposes a sound event detection system that is trained using a minimally annotated data set of single sounds to identify and separate components of polyphonic sounds. The system uses a Feed Forward Neural Network with a single hidden layer that is pre-trained using an autoencoder. Single sounds, represented as Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) feature vectors, are used to train the neural network using back propagation. Polyphonic sounds are pre-processed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) to obtain source separated sounds. These source separated sounds are then tested for sound classification using the feed-forward algorithm. Our system is able to achieve reasonable accuracy of source separation and detection with minimal training set. The ultimate goal of our system is to bootstrap from minimal data and learn new sounds leading to a better sound detection system.

Morphology and structural stability of Pt–Pd bimetallic nanoparticles

The morphologies and structures of Pt–Pd bimetallic nanoparticles determine their chemical and physical ***, a fundamental understanding of their morphologies and structural stabilities is of crucial importance to their applications. In this article, we have performed Monte Carlo simulations to systematically explore the structural stability and structural features of Pt–Pd alloy nanoparticles. Different Pt/Pd ratios, and particle sizes and shapes were *** simulated results reveal that the truncated octahedron, which has the remarkably lowest energy among all the considered shapes, exhibits the best structural stability while the tetrahedron has the worst invariably. Furthermore, all the structures of Pt–Pd alloy nanoparticles present Pd-rich in the outmost layer but Pt-rich in the sub-outmost layer. Especially, atomic distribution and chemical short-range order parameter were applied to further characterize the structural features of Pt–Pd alloy nanoparticles. This study provides a significant insight not only into the structural stability of Pt–Pd alloy nanoparticles with different compositions, and particle sizes and shapes but also to the design of bimetallic nanoparticles.

How to efficiently place virtual machines is an important issue in the cloud data center. Virtual machine placement method based on traditional heuristic algorithm costs long time to reach an optimal allocation so that it is difficult to meet the real production environment. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a virtual machine placement method based on improved simulated annealing algorithm (ISA). Firstly, resource utilization model of servers and dynamic placement model for virtual machines are introduced. Secondly, two threshold values and an optimized annealing process are presented in the ISA. Finally, the ISA-based allocation weight vector is computed. Experimental results show that the method determines virtual machine placement in a short time span, achieves load balance and improves resource utilization rate in the cloud data center, as well as reduces the number of active servers.
