Functional connectivity networks (FCNs), particularly those utilizing the phase lag index (PLI) method, have been instrumental in elucidating the pathological features of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) by assessing the synchrony and lag of electroencephalogram (EEG) signal waveforms. Currently, the more prevalent methods are traditional FCNs that quantify phase synchronization as scalar values and dynamic FCNs (D-FCNs) that employ sliding window approaches to capture the instantaneous variations in functional connectivity. However, these two methods merely capture the low-level functional connections between paired regions of interest (ROIs) from both the static and dynamic perspectives, and fail to reflect the high-level functional connections involving multiple ROIs. Moreover, the feature dimension of the dynamic FCN is excessively high, and there exists a phase mismatch issue between different samples, which renders it impossible to be directly applied to the classification task, and no better solution is available at present. To mitigate these issues, we proposed a comprehensive framework that includes segmenting EEG sequences based on PLI to construct dynamic FCNs;employing seventh-order central moments for feature extraction to form low-order FCNs (Lo-FCNs);and establishing high-order FCNs (Ho-FCNs) based on Pearson correlation theory derived from Lo-FCNs. We conducted classification experiments across four distinct EEG frequency bands using our proposed framework while analyzing relevant features through graph theory and brain topological mapping techniques. The experiments showed that the proposed framework has a high classification accuracy rate in the classification experiments of MDD and NC, and proved the importance of high-order features in classification experiments, indicating that they may serve as physiological markers for MDD diagnosis. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Chinese idiom is a distinctive language phenomenon, which usually consists of four Chinese characters and expresses a non-compositional and metaphorical meaning. Therefore, Chinese idioms pose unique challenges for Chinese machine reading comprehension. To address this issue, researchers proposed a Chinese idiom cloze task and a large-scale Chinese idioms dataset ChID. Existing methods have proposed a number of models and achieved reasonable performance on ChID. However, they fall short of fully exploring the precise representations and distinctions of the meanings of idioms, especially idioms with similar meanings. In this paper, we propose a prompt-based representation individual enhancement method (PRIEM). This method fuses the context-specific representation and the generic definition representation of the idioms, and uses the prompt method to guide the model in learning the metaphorical meanings of idioms purposefully. To further improve the distinction representations of idioms with similar meanings, PRIEM adopts a method of idiom representation mapping and decomposing based on orthogonal projection to obtain the common and individual representations of idioms respectively. Methods based on dynamically expanding architectures can effectively mitigate catastrophic forgetting in class incremental learning (CIL), but they often overlook information sharing and integration between subnetworks, leading to performance degradation and increased parameter count and memory consumption as the network expands. To address these complex issues, we introduce a new method called Task Separation and Knowledge Sharing (TSKS), which transfers knowledge at both the logical and feature levels through Hybrid Knowledge Distillation (HKD). In logical distillation, we combine Global Knowledge Distillation (GKD) and Task Knowledge Distillation (TKD) to establish connections between tasks. To prevent the model from favoring new classes, we design an Attention- Based Feature Fusion (ABFF) mechanism to capture important features. Additionally, we introduce a Soft-Margin Auxiliary Loss (SMAL) to help the model learn new concepts. Extensive experiments show that TSKS outperforms existing models on CIFAR100 and ImageNet100, regardless of whether memory samples are used. Notably, TSKS demonstrates superior performance in memory-free settings, indicating a reduced reliance on rehearsal memory.

Leveraging Large Language Models for Enhanced Digital Twin Modeling: Trends, Methods, and Challenges

Digital twin technology is a transformative innovation driving the digital transformation and intelligent optimization of manufacturing systems. By integrating real-time data with computational models, digital twins enable continuous monitoring, simulation, prediction, and optimization, effectively bridging the gap between the physical and digital worlds. Recent advancements in communication, computing, and control technologies have accelerated the development and adoption of digital twins across various industries. However, significant challenges remain, including limited data for accurate system modeling, inefficiencies in system analysis, and a lack of explainability in the interactions between physical and digital systems. The rise of large language models (LLMs) offers new avenues to address these challenges. LLMs have shown exceptional capabilities across diverse domains, exhibiting strong generalization and emergent abilities that hold great potential for enhancing digital twins. This paper provides a comprehensive review of recent developments in LLMs and their applications to digital twin modeling. We propose a unified description-prediction-prescription framework to integrate digital twin modeling technologies and introduce a structured taxonomy to categorize LLM functionalities in these contexts. For each stage of application, we summarize the methodologies, identify key challenges, and explore potential future directions. To demonstrate the effectiveness of LLM-enhanced digital twins, we present an LLM-enhanced enterprise digital twin system, which enables automatic modeling and optimization of an enterprise. Finally, we discuss future opportunities and challenges in advancing LLM-enhanced digital twins, offering valuable insights for researchers and practitioners in related fields. MalScan: Android Malware Detection Based on Social-Network Centrality Analysis

Malware scanning of an app market is expected to be scalable and effective. However, existing approaches use syntax-based features that can be evaded by transformation attacks or semantic-based features which are usually extracted by expensive program analysis. Therefore, to address the scalability challenges of traditional heavyweight static analysis, we propose a graph-based lightweight approach MalScan for Android malware detection. MalScan considers the function call graph as a complex social network and employs centrality analysis on sensitive application program interfaces (APIs) to express the semantic characteristics of the graph. On this basis, machine learning algorithms and ensemble learning algorithms are applied to classify the extracted features. We evaluate MalScan on datasets of 104,892 benign apps and 108,640 malwares, and the results of experiments indicate that MalScan outperforms six state-of-the-art detectors and can quickly detect Android malware with an f-value as high as 99%. In addition, there are also significant improvements in the robustness of Android app evolution and robustness to obfuscation. Finally, we conduct an exhaustive statistical study of over one million applications in the Google-Play app market and successfully identify 498 zero-day malware, which further validates the feasibility of MalScan on market-wide malware scanning. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Any-Angle Routing Algorithm for Microfluidic Biochips Driven by Flow Path

Continuous-flow microfluidic biochips (CFMBs) have become a hot research topic in recent years due to their ability to perform biochemical assays automatically and efficiently. For the first time, PathDriver+ takes the requirements of the actual fluid transportation into account in the design process of CFMBs and implements the actual fluid transport and removal, and plans separate flow paths for each transport task, which have been neglected in previous work. However, PathDriver+ does not take full advantage of the flexibility of CFMBs routing because it only considers the optimization of flow channel length for the global routing in the mesh model, except for the detailed routing. In addition, PathDriver+ only considers the X architecture, while the existing work shows that the any-angle routing can utilize the routing resources more efficiently and shorten the flow channel length. To address the above issues, we propose a flow path-driven arbitrary angle routing algorithm, which can improve the utilization of routing resources and reduce the flow channel length while considering the actual fluid transportation requirements. The proposed algorithm constructs a search graph based on constrained Delaunay triangulation to improve the search efficiency of routing solutions while ensuring the routing quality. Then, a Dijkstra-based flow path routing method is used on the constructed search graph to generate a routing result with a short channel length quickly. In addition, in the routing process, channel reuse strategy and intersection optimization strategy are proposed for the flow path reuse and intersection number optimization problems, respectively, to further improve the quality of routing results. The experimental results show that compared with the latest work PathDriver+, the length of channels, the number of ports used, and the number of channel intersections are significantly reduced by 33.21%, 11.04%, and 44.79%, respectively, and the channel reuse rate is i

Accurate brain tumor segmentation of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images requires the integration of multimodal data in effective collaborative learning. However, clinical scenarios often face missing modalities, significantly impacting segmentation performance. In this paper, we propose the penta-encoder with medical transformer (Penta-MedTrans) for incomplete multimodal learning, which consists of four main components: a modality-specific encoder (MSE), a modality-dynamic encoder (MDE), a multimodal fusion module (MMFM) and a convolutional decoder. The MSE extracts unique features for each modality, while the MDE captures inter-modal semantics to address missing modalities. The MMFM establishes and aligns long-range correlations between modal-invariant features and global semantics of tumor regions. The convolutional decoder generates robust segmentation results by progressively upsampling and fusing modality-invariant features. We extensively validated our method on the BraTS 2020 and BraTS 2021 datasets for brain tumor segmentation. Results showed that our method outperforms SOTA for incomplete multimodal brain tumor segmentation across most subsets. © 2024 IEEE.

Enhancing action discrimination via category-specific frame clustering for weakly-supervised temporal action localization

Temporal action localization (TAL) is a task of detecting the start and end timestamps of action instances and classifying them in an untrimmed video. As the number of action categories per video increases, existing weakly-supervised TAL (W-TAL) methods with only video-level labels cannot provide sufficient supervision. Single-frame supervision has attracted the interest of researchers. Existing paradigms model single-frame annotations from the perspective of video snippet sequences, neglect action discrimination of annotated frames, and do not pay sufficient attention to their correlations in the same category. Considering a category, the annotated frames exhibit distinctive appearance characteristics or clear action ***, a novel method to enhance action discrimination via category-specific frame clustering for W-TAL is proposed. Specifically,the K-means clustering algorithm is employed to aggregate the annotated discriminative frames of the same category, which are regarded as exemplars to exhibit the characteristics of the action category. Then, the class activation scores are obtained by calculating the similarities between a frame and exemplars of various categories. Category-specific representation modeling can provide complimentary guidance to snippet sequence modeling in the mainline. As a result, a convex combination fusion mechanism is presented for annotated frames and snippet sequences to enhance the consistency properties of action discrimination,which can generate a robust class activation sequence for precise action classification and localization. Due to the supplementary guidance of action discriminative enhancement for video snippet sequences, our method outperforms existing single-frame annotation based methods. Experiments conducted on three datasets (THUMOS14, GTEA, and BEOID) show that our method achieves high localization performance compared with state-of-the-art methods.

As the largest source of technical information around the world, patents are regarded as an essential crystallization and carrier of knowledge and technological innovation. Patent transformation is conducive not only to enhancing economic efficiency, but also to improving productivity and the rational utilization of resources. There is an imbalance between high patent ownership and low transformation rates. We try to predict the occurrence of transformation events from the patent assignment. However, there are some challenges in predicting patent transformation: (1) how to capture transformation features of patents, especially combined with the transfer time factor. (2) how to predict patent transfer time effectively. To address these challenges, a Patent Transfer Time Forecasting Model (PTTFM) is proposed. The model includes: (1) extraction of time-varying features of patents. (2) the patent transfer time is forecast using a Neural Temporal Point Process. By testing the model on patents under different classifications, the experimental results are obtained to show that the proposed model is applicable to predict the timing of patent assignment within a certain time frame, especially one month. Our work may facilitate patent transformation while interpretability is ensured for transformation events. © 2023 IEEE.
