In the rapidly evolving urban landscape,outdoor parking lots have become an indispensable part of the city’s transportation *** growth of parking lots has raised the likelihood of spontaneous vehicle combus-tion,a significant safety hazard,making smoke detection an essential preventative ***,the complex environment of outdoor parking lots presents additional challenges for smoke detection,which necessitates the development of more advanced and reliable smoke detection *** paper addresses this concern and presents a novel smoke detection technique designed for the demanding environment of outdoor parking ***,we develop a novel dataset to fill the gap,as there is a lack of publicly available *** dataset encompasses a wide range of smoke and fire scenarios,enhanced with data augmentation to ensure robustness against diverse outdoor ***,we utilize an optimized YOLOv5s model,integrated with the Squeeze-and-Excitation Network(SENet)attention mechanism,to significantly improve detection accuracy while maintaining real-time processing ***,this paper implements an outdoor smoke detection system that is capable of accurately localizing and alerting in real time,enhancing the effectiveness and reliability of emergency *** show that the system has a high accuracy in terms of detecting smoke incidents in outdoor scenarios.

Federated learning (FL) has been widely acknowledged as a promising solution to training machine learning (ML) model training with privacy preservation. To reduce the traffic overheads incurred by FL systems, edge servers have been included between clients and the parameter server to aggregate clients' local models. Recent studies on this edge-assisted hierarchical FL scheme have focused on ensuring or accelerating model convergence by coping with various factors, e.g., uncertain network conditions, unreliable clients, heterogeneous compute resources, etc. This paper presents our three new discoveries of the edge-assisted hierarchical FL scheme: 1) it wastes significant time during its two-phase training rounds;2) it does not recognize or utilize model diversity when producing a global model;and 3) it is vulnerable to model poisoning attacks. To overcome these drawbacks, we propose FedEdge, a novel edge-assisted hierarchical FL scheme that accelerates model training with asynchronous local federated training and adaptive model aggregation. Extensive experiments are conducted on two widely-used public datasets. The results demonstrate that, compared with state-of-the-art FL schemes, FedEdge accelerates model convergence by 1.14 × -3.20 ×, and improves model accuracy by 2.14% - 6.63%. © 2023 ACM.

The key-value separation is renowned for its significant mitigation of the write amplification inherent in traditional LSM trees. However, KV separation potentially increases performance overhead in the management of Value region, especially for garbage collection (GC) operation that is used to reduce the redundant space occupation. In response, many efforts have been made to optimize the GC mechanism for KV separation. However, our analysis indicates that such solution based on trade-offs between CPU and I/O overheads cannot simultaneously satisfy the three requirements of KV separated systems in terms of throughput, tail latency, and space usage. This limitation hinders their real-world *** this paper, we introduce AegonKV, a "three-birds-one-stone" solution that comprehensively enhances the throughput, tail latency, and space usage of KV separated systems. AegonKV first proposes a SmartSSD-based GC offloading mechanism to enable asynchronous GC operations without competing with LSM read/write for bandwidth or CPU. AegonKV leverages offload-friendly data structures and hardware/ software execution logic to address the challenges of GC offloading. Experiments demonstrate that AegonKV achieves the largest throughput improvement of 1.28-3.3 times, a significant reduction of 37%-66% in tail latency, and 15%-85% in space overhead compared to existing KV separated systems.

Dealing with uncertainty in optimization is increasingly recognized as a key necessity for tackling real-world problems. A (1,0)-super solution has better robust, and can protect against default risk of variable assignment. When flipped a value of any one of variables, the (1,0)-super solution still is a solution. In this work, we study the completeness of (1,0)-regular (k,s)-SAT. (1,0)-regular (k,s)-SAT is a problem to decide whether a regular (k,s)-CNF formula has a (1,0)-super solution. We give a reduction method that transform from (k,s)-SAT to (1,0)-regular (k+1,s)-SAT if an unsatisfiable (k,s)-CNF formula exists, and a structure method of forced-regular (k,s)-CNF formula. This implies that (1,0)-regular (k +1,s)-SAT problem has a sudden jump from triviality to NP-completeness for every k > 3. © 2022 IEEE.

Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have been increasingly adopted for graph analysis in web applications such as social networks. Yet, efficient GNN serving remains a critical challenge due to high workload fluctuations and intricate GNN operations. Serverless computing, thanks to its flexibility and agility, offers on-demand serving of GNN inference requests. Alas, the request-centric serverless model is still too coarse-grained to avoid resource waste. Observing the significant data locality in computation graphs of requests, we propose λGrapher, a serverless system for GNN serving that achieves resource efficiency through graph sharing and fine-grained resource allocation. "Grapher features the following designs: (1) adaptive timeout for request buffering to balance resource efficiency and inference latency, (2) graph-centric scheduling to minimize computation and memory redundancy, and (3) resource-centric function management with fine-grained resource allocation catered to the resource sensitivities of GNN operations and function orchestration optimized to hide communication latency. We implement a prototype of λGrapher based on the representative open-source serverless platform Knative and evaluate it with real-world traces from various web applications. Our results show that λGrapher can achieve an average savings of 61.5% in memory resource and 47.2% in computing resource compared with the state of the arts while ensuring GNN inference latency. © 2024 ACM.

ChestBox: Enabling Fast State Sharing for Stateful Serverless computing with State Functions

This paper presents ChestBox, a novel approach that utilizes state functions to facilitate low-latency state sharing for stateful serverless computing. When an application function needs to share a state, the state function creates a memory space with Linux's shared memory object to store the state. Other application functions can then read the state directly from the shared memory. ChestBox enables fast state sharing that avoids excessive memory overhead without compromising on-demand resource allocation compared to existing solutions. This effectively reduces the energy consumption of serverless computing and promotes sustainable computing. The implementation of ChestBox on Apache OpenWhisk unearths two major implementation challenges, which we address with respective optimization techniques, i.e., state function channel and state swapping. The evaluation of ChestBox with four real-world applications shows that compared with the state-of-The-Art approach, it can reduce state-sharing latency by up to 99.71%, while reducing execution costs by 24.59% and storage costs by 99.76%. © 2016 IEEE.

Animal recognition with Object Detection (OD) method by using deep learning techniques has gained popularities in biodiversity preservation and "smart farm" program in recent years. Current research mainly focuses on model training and parameter optimization of different forms of livestock in a single scene. To meet the developmental needs of farms in modern agriculture, this paper proposes an image recognition method which preprocesses the morphological characteristics of livestock in different captivity scenarios, by combining Kennard Stone algorithm, K-means II algorithm and deep learning models for different scenes and live pigs of different behavior characteristics. Our results show that the F1-socre, mAP0.5, and mAP0.5-0.95 of the model were 98.48%, 99.27% and 73.03%, respectively. Our research shows significant improvements for promoting smart animal husbandry and saving labor costs for breeding enterprises, which can also speed up research of high accuracy livestock auto-weighing systems and subsequent applied in animal husbandry. © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Recent progress regarding the use of language models (LMs) as knowledge bases (KBs) has shown that language models can act as structured knowledge bases for storing relational facts. However, most existing works only considered the LM-as-KB paradigm in a static setting, which ignores the analysis of temporal dynamics of world knowledge. Furthermore, a basic function of KBs, i.e., the ability to store conflicting information (i.e., 1-N, N-1 and N-M relations), is underexplored. In this paper, we formulate two practical requirements for treating LMs as temporal KBs: (i) the capacity to store temporally-scoped knowledge that contains conflicting information and (ii) the ability to use stored knowledge for temporally-scoped knowledge queries. We introduce a new dataset called LAMA-TK which is aimed at probing temporally-scoped knowledge, and investigate the two above requirements to explore the LM-as-KB paradigm in the temporal domain. On the one hand, experiments show that LMs can memorize millions of temporally-scoped facts with relatively high accuracy and transfer stored knowledge to temporal knowledge queries, thereby expanding the LM-as-KB paradigm to the temporal domain. On the other hand, we show that memorizing conflicting information, which has been neglected by previous works, is still challenging for LMs and hinders the memorization of other unrelated one-to-one relationships. © 2022 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Anomaly detection refers to the identification of data objects that deviate from the general data distribution. One of the important challenges in anomaly detection is handling high-dimensional data, especially when it contains a large number of redundant attributes. Although traditional Isolation Forest (iForest) and Extended Isolation Forest (EIF) have performed well in anomaly detection, the detection accuracy is still extremely influenced by redundant attributes. In this paper, we propose a two-tier architecture named RS-EIF, to alleviate the negative impact of redundant attributes. Specifically, the RS-EIF combines the rough set theory and EIF algorithm and provides an effective basis for the EIF-based anomaly detection method by removing redundant attributes with rough set theory. Experimental results show that the RS-EIF algorithm performs better than the iForest and EIF algorithms in terms of anomaly detection rate, and the results of the combination of rough set theory and EIF are more prominent compared to the other combination methods.

Knowledge Graph (KG) is an essential research direction that involves storing and managing knowledge data, but its incompleteness and sparsity hinder its development in various applications. Knowledge Graph Reasoning (KGR) is an effective method to solve this limitation via reasoning missing knowledge based on existing knowledge. The graph Convolution Network (GCN) based method is one of the state-of-the-art approaches to this work. However, there are still some problems, such as the insufficient ability to perceive graph structure and the poor effect of learning data features which may limit the reasoning accuracy. This paper proposes a KGR architecture based on a graph sequence generator and multi-head self-attention mechanism, named GaM-KGR, to improve the above problems and enhance prediction accuracy. Specifically, the GaM-KGR first introduces the graph generation model into the field of KGR for graph representation learning to obtain the hidden features in the data so that enhancing the reasoning effect and then embeds the generated graph sequence into the multi-head self-attention mechanism for subsequent processing to improve the graph structure perception ability of the proposed architecture, so that it can process the graph structure data more appropriately. Extensive experimental results show that the GaM-KGR architecture can achieve the state-of-the-art prediction results of current GCN-based models.
