The rapid development of single-cell RNA sequencing technology has opened new horizons for biomedical research. As the initial step in single-cell data analysis, clustering forms the foundation for downstream analyses. However, due to the inherent high dimensionality, noise, and sparsity of single-cell data, most current clustering methods exhibit poor stability. To address these limitations, we propose a novel clustering method based on multi-view generation (scCMVG) coupled with noise perturbation. Specifically, scCMVG introduces disturbances at both gene level and cellular level to disrupt the original associations between genes and cells. It then employs autoencoder and graph convolutional network to reconstruct the disturbed data and generate new feature representations from it. Through this strategy, the model's noise resistance can be enhanced, increasing the ability to capture diverse cellular states and gene expression patterns. Experimental results demonstrate scCMVG superior clustering performance across multiple single-cell RNA sequencing datasets, outperforming existing methods. Due to the limitations of technologies, the traditional electronic medical record system has the risk of data being tampered with and attacked, which makes personal privacy easy to be leaked. Combined with the consortium blockchain development platform – FISCO BCOS, a new electronic medical record storage model is proposed. The model controls the access of medical records through blockchain and smart contract, strengthens the privacy protection of patients, improves the convenience of medical data sharing, and provides reliable data support for medical research. Finally, the proposed electronic medical record storage model is fully realized, and its effectiveness and practicability are proved. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Masked Language Modeling (MLM) and Image-Text Matching (ITM) are always used in fusion encoder to learn the joint representation of images and text. In existing methods, the masking strategy of MLM leads to the neglect of image details during the modeling process. Meanwhile, the sampling strategy of ITM struggles to consistently select high-difficulty hard negative instances, reducing the effectiveness of constraints. This leads to challenges in aligning fine-grained information in cross-modal retrieval. In response to this challenge, a fine-grained information alignment-based visual language model (FAM) is proposed in this paper. On one hand, the attribute-based masking strategy is employed in MLM, helping the model focus on the details of objects in images during modeling. On the other hand, the robust hard negative sample generation strategy provides challenging negative samples for ITM by altering the relationships between objects. This enables the model to align relationships between objects in different modalities and thus calibrates cross-modal retrieval. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the model in cross-modal retrieval tasks.

Automated data Visualization from Natural Language via Large Language Models: An Exploratory Study

The Natural Language to Visualization (NL2Vis) task aims to transform natural-language descriptions into visual representations for a grounded table, enabling users to gain insights from vast amounts of data. Recently, many deep learning-based approaches have been developed for NL2Vis. Despite the considerable efforts made by these approaches, challenges persist in visualizing data sourced from unseen databases or spanning multiple tables. Taking inspiration from the remarkable generation capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs), this paper conducts an empirical study to evaluate their potential in generating visualizations, and explore the effectiveness of in-context learning prompts for enhancing this task. In particular, we first explore the ways of transforming structured tabular data into sequential text prompts, as to feed them into LLMs and analyze which table content contributes most to the NL2Vis. Our findings suggest that transforming structured tabular data into programs is effective, and it is essential to consider the table schema when formulating prompts. Furthermore, we evaluate two types of LLMs: finetuned models (e.g., T5-Small) and inference-only models (e.g., GPT-3.5), against state-of-the-art methods, using the NL2Vis benchmarks (i.e., nvBench). The experimental results reveal that LLMs outperform baselines, with inference-only models consistently exhibiting performance improvements, at times even surpassing fine-tuned models when provided with certain few-shot demonstrations through in-context learning. Finally, we analyze when the LLMs fail in NL2Vis, and propose to iteratively update the results using strategies such as chain-of-thought, role-playing, and code-interpreter. Environment-Aware Dynamic Graph Learning for Out-of-Distribution Generalization

Dynamic graph neural networks (DGNNs) are increasingly pervasive in exploiting spatio-temporal patterns on dynamic graphs. However, existing works fail to generalize under distribution shifts, which are common in real-world scenarios. As the generation of dynamic graphs is heavily influenced by latent environments, investigating their impacts on the out-of-distribution (OOD) generalization is critical. However, it remains unexplored with the following two major challenges: (1) How to properly model and infer the complex environments on dynamic graphs with distribution shifts? (2) How to discover invariant patterns given inferred spatio-temporal environments? To solve these challenges, we propose a novel Environment-Aware dynamic Graph LEarning (EAGLE) framework for OOD generalization by modeling complex coupled environments and exploiting spatiotemporal invariant patterns. Specifically, we first design the environment-aware EA-DGNN to model environments by multi-channel environments disentangling. Then, we propose an environment instantiation mechanism for environment diversification with inferred distributions. Finally, we discriminate spatio-temporal invariant patterns for out-of-distribution prediction by the invariant pattern recognition mechanism and perform fine-grained causal interventions node-wisely with a mixture of instantiated environment samples. Experiments on real-world and synthetic dynamic graph datasets demonstrate the superiority of our method against state-of-the-art baselines under distribution shifts. Ultrasound images are vital for medical diagnostics but often suffer from information loss and blurred details due to limitations in imaging systems and sensor technologies. Many researchers have proposed super-resolution algorithms to enhance medical images. But existing super-resolution methods struggle with the uneven distribution of noise and clarity. To address this, we propose a super-resolution algorithm for medical images based on multi-scale feature aggregation Leveraging the architecture of Unet as our primary framework, our method enhances output details through multi-scale hole convolutions. Taking into consideration the characteristics of ultrasonic images, we propose a frequency domain-based module to enhances edge information while effectively denoising the image. Furthermore, to improve the quality of the output images, we introduce an image processing module grounded in global information. The module ensures clarity while considering the overarching context, thereby preserving global consistency and enhancing output quality. We experiment on three datasets to demonstrate the effectiveness of our model. Additionally, significant improvements in medical image segmentation are observed, proving the practicability of our proposed approach.

After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, online teaching has gradually emerged as an indispensable component of education. Despite its convenience, online education lacks the immediate interactive experience inherent in traditional classrooms. This paper presents a meticulously designed DS-YOLOv8 network model, specifically tailored for real-time recognition of students raising their hands under cameras. On our proprietary dataset, this network model exhibits exceptional accuracy in hand-raising detection, showcasing a 1.3% improvement in the AP50 index compared to the baseline YOLOv8 model. Our focus lies on the application of hand-raising detection within online classrooms with an objective to provide enhanced support for teachers by promptly identifying students raising their hands and thereby improving teaching efficiency while enriching the interactive experience of students in virtual learning environments.

Mathematical formulas are ubiquitous in courses such as Machine Learning. Understanding these formulas is the primary challenge for studying of students. If a searchable knowledge base can be built for these formulas, it will help students learn. Accurate identification of these formulas is an important step in building and querying the knowledge base. However, mathematical formulas have complex two-dimensional and nested structures, which makes them inconvenient to search like ordinary text. This paper employs Faster R-CNN to detect regions containing mathematical formulas and improves its backbone network, anchor box dimensions, and pre-training network to make it more accurate and efficient in identifing these formulas. Furthermore, in order to enhance the features and meaningful representation of mathematical formulas in the input image, we introduce the distance transformation. Finally, comparative experiments were conducted on the publicly dataset GTDB. Our proposed approach achieved recognition rates of 91.22% and 85.74% for isolated and hybrid formulas detection.

Fine-tuning pre-trained language models, such as BERT, has shown enormous success among various NLP tasks. Though simple and effective, the process of fine-tuning has been found unstable, which often leads to unexpected poor performance. To increase stability and generalizability, most existing works resort to maintaining the parameters or representations of pre-trained models during fine-tuning. Nevertheless, very little work explores mining the reliable part of pre-learned information that can help to stabilize fine-tuning. To address this challenge, we introduce a novel solution in which we fine-tune BERT with stabilized cross-layer mutual information. Our method aims to preserve the reliable behaviors of cross-layer information propagation, instead of preserving the information itself, of the pre-trained model. Therefore, our method circumvents the domain conflicts between pre-trained and target tasks. We conduct extensive experiments with popular pre-trained BERT variants on NLP datasets, demonstrating the universal effectiveness and robustness of our method.

Large language models (LLMs) have excelled in various natural language processing tasks, but challenges in interpretability and trustworthiness persist, limiting their use in high-stakes fields. Causal discovery offers a promising approach to improve transparency and reliability. However, current evaluations are often one-sided and lack assessments focused on interpretability performance. Additionally, these evaluations rely on synthetic data and lack comprehensive assessments of real-world datasets. These lead to promising methods potentially being overlooked. To address these issues, we propose a flexible evaluation framework with metrics for evaluating differences in causal structures and causal effects, which are crucial attributes that help improve the interpretability of LLMs. We introduce the Open Causal Discovery Benchmark (OCDB), based on real data, to promote fair comparisons and drive optimization of algorithms. Additionally, our new metrics account for undirected edges, enabling fair comparisons between Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs) and Completed Partially Directed Acyclic Graphs (CPDAGs). Experimental results show significant shortcomings in existing algorithms' generalization capabilities on real data, highlighting the potential for performance improvement and the importance of our framework in advancing causal discovery techniques.
