The huge amount of data enforces great pressure on the processing efficiency of database systems. By leveraging the in-situ computing ability of emerging nonvolatile memory, processing-in-memory (PIM) technology shows great potential in accelerating database operations against traditional architectures without data movement overheads. In this article, we introduce ReSQM, a novel ReCAM-based accelerator, which can dramatically reduce the response time of database systems. The key novelty of ReSQM is that some commonly used database queries that would be otherwise processed inefficiently in previous studies can be in-situ accomplished with massively high parallelism by exploiting the PIM-enabled ReCAM array. ReSQM supports some typical database queries (such as SELECTION, SORT, and JOIN) effectively based on the limited computational mode of the ReCAM array. ReSQM is also equipped with a series of hardware-algorithm co-designs to maximize efficiency. We present a new data mapping mechanism that allows enjoying in-situ in-memory computations for SELECTION operating upon intermediate results. We also develop a count-based ReCAM-specific algorithm to enable the in-memory sorting without any row swapping. The relational comparisons are integrated for accelerating inequality join by making a few modifications to the ReCAM cells with negligible hardware overhead. The experimental results show that ReSQM can improve the (energy) efficiency by $611\times $ ( $193\times $ ), $19\times $ ( $17\times $ ), $59\times $ ( $43\times $ ), and $307\times $ ( $181\times $ ) in comparison to a 10-core Intel Xeon E5-2630v4 processor for SELECTION, SORT, equi-join, and inequality join, respectively. In contrast to state-of-the-art CMOS-based CAM, GPU, FPGA, NDP, and PIM solutions, ReSQM can also offer $2.2\times 39\times $ speedups. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

data mining technology has yielded fruitful results in the area of crime discovery and intelligent decision making. Credit card is one of the most popular payment methods, providing great convenience and efficiency. However, due to the vulnerabilities of credit card transactions, criminals are able to commit fraud to infringe on the interests of the state and citizens. How to discover potential fraudsters while guaranteeing high efficiency becomes an extremely valuable problem to solve. In this work, we talk about the advantages and disadvantages of different models to detect credit card fraud. We first introduce the data preprocessing measures for handling imbalanced fraud detection dataset. Then we compare related models to implement fraudster recognition. We also propose a feature selection approach based on combined feature weights. FPGA has been considered as a promising solution to accelerate Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for its excellent performance in energy efficiency and programmability. However, prior designs are usually designed for inference only as designers can map pre-trained models to the hardware in a very efficient way. However, those approaches may not be suitable for training CNN models. In this paper, we propose FConv, in which the CPU and FPGA work together in a fine-grained manner. The FPGA accelerator in FConv uses one Winograd-based convolver, which reduces the design complexity and improves performance. We apply double-buffer for output routine to effectively overlap computation and data transfer. We also integrate multiple PEs to improve data parallelism. We propose our analytical model for prediction and use it as a guide in task scheduling. We find the upper limit of performance under the current design based on the analytical model. We evaluate our design on VGG-16 and Densnet-40 on ImageNet and CIFAR-10. We achieve 262.43 GOP/s on the VGG-16 model, which is 2.13 times of the performance compared to FFT-based implementation on the same platform. We also achieve at most 4 times+ performance improvement compared MKL with 20 threads running on 10 core Intel processors. © 2020 IEEE.

The advent of Persistent Memory (PM) necessitates an evolution of Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) technologies for supporting remote data persistence. Previous software-based solutions require remote CPU intervention and postpone the visibility of remote persistence. In this paper, we design several hardware-supported RDMA primitives to flush data from the volatile cache of RDMA Network Interface Cards (RNICs) to the PM. We also propose durable RPCs based on the proposed RDMA Flush primitives to support remote data persistence and fast failure recovery. We emulate the performance of RDMA Flush primitives through other RDMA prim-itives, and compare our proposals with several state-of-the-art RPCs in a real testbed equipped with PM and InfiniBand networks. Experimental results show that our proposals can improve the throughput of RPCs by up to 90%, and reduce the 99th percentile latency by up to 49%. The experimental studies also provide instructive guidelines for designing RDMA-based distributed PM systems.

Image-text matching is an important and challenging task in the field of multimedia analysis, aimed at bridging the semantic gap between visual content and language descriptions. Although this field has significant implications for enhancing cross-modal interaction, most previous work still faces challenges in accurately aligning images with text descriptions, especially when dealing with images containing rich semantic information. To address this issue, we propose a novel context-aware image-text matching model that extracts and summarizes visual region information aligned with multiple text descriptions from a single image. Specifically, we designed an adaptive context-aware self-attention module to extract representations of visual regions and text words. By controlling the complementary semantic relationships within each modality, our model can adaptively capture contextual information for each modality. We then introduce a Transformer-based encoder layer to extract features at multiple levels and aggregate region-level features into image-level features. Finally, fine-grained word-region alignment is conducted to match image features with corresponding text features. To evaluate the effectiveness of our method, we conducted extensive experiments on two benchmark datasets, Flickr30K and MS-COCO. The experimental results show that our model outper-forms several state-of-the-art baselines in image-text matching tasks, demonstrating the effectiveness and practicality of our model in handline cross-modal retrieval tasks.

Hierarchical Text Classification, as a critical task in natural language processing, has broad applications in scenarios with complex label structures and limited samples. However, existing methods still face challenges in capturing hierarchical label information and text interactions, resulting in suboptimal classification performance. This study proposes a few-shot hierarchical text classification method based on prompt embeddings and dynamically fused hierarchical features. Building on pre-trained language models, the method encodes hierarchical structure information as prompts through an adaptive prompt embedding model and dynamically fuses hierarchical features to generate more expressive text representations. Additionally, a positive sample generation strategy based on contrastive learning is introduced, enabling the model to effectively distinguish hierarchical features across different categories, further enhancing classification performance. Experimental results demonstrate that this method significantly improves classification accuracy on multiple public datasets, exhibiting stronger generalization ability and robustness compared to mainstream methods. This approach offers a novel and effective solution for hierarchical text classification tasks.

This paper presents a trajectory tracking algorithm designed for autonomous quadrotors to navigate complex dy-namic environments that is resilient to collision disturbances. Since it combines Model Predictive Contouring Control (MPCC) with the capabilities of neural networks, our method is named MPCC Integrated with Neural Augmentation (MINA). By equip-ping the quadrotor with PVDF piezoelectric sensors, we achieve real-time perception of collision forces and utilize S4D-Conv Adaptive Net Architecture (SANA) for state computation, a network that integrates the advantages of S4D and convolutional kernels to enhance the accuracy of state predictions. We incorporate the predicted results into the MPCC framework to optimize the thrust output of the quadrotor for the next time step, ensuring precise trajectory tracking. Experimental validation demonstrates the reliability and effectiveness of our algorithm, providing an innovative solution for autonomous flight and trajectory tracking of quadrotors in complex dynamic environments.

Millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar has attracted significant attention in robotics and autonomous driving. However, despite the perception stability in harsh environments, the point cloud generated by mmWave radar is relatively sparse while containing significant noise, which limits its further development. Traditional mmWave radar enhancement approaches often struggle to leverage the effectiveness of diffusion models in super-resolution, largely due to the unnatural range-azimuth heatmap (RAH) or bird’s eye view (BEV) representation. To overcome this limitation, we propose a novel method that pioneers the application of fusing range images with image diffusion models, achieving accurate and dense mmWave radar point clouds that are similar to LiDAR. Benefitting from the projection that aligns with human observation, the range image representation of mmWave radar is close to natural images, allowing the knowledge from pre-trained image diffusion models to be effectively transferred, significantly improving the overall performance. Extensive evaluations on both public datasets and self-constructed datasets demonstrate that our approach provides substantial improvements, establishing a new state-of-the-art performance in generating truly three-dimensional LiDAR-like point clouds via mmWave radar. Unsupervised skin lesion segmentation offers several benefits, such as conserving expert human resources, reducing discrepancies caused by subjective human labeling, and adapting to novel environments. However, segmenting dermoscopic images without manual labeling guidance is a challenging task due to image artifacts such as hair noise, blister noise, and subtle edge differences. In this paper, we introduce an innovative Uncertainty Self-Learning Network (USL-Net) to eliminate the need for manual labeling guidance for the segmentation. Initially, features are extracted using contrastive learning, followed by the generation of Class Activation Maps (CAMs) as saliency maps. High-saliency regions in the map serve as pseudo-labels for lesion regions while low-saliency regions represent the background. Besides, intermediate regions can be hard to classify, often due to their proximity to lesion edges or interference from hair or blisters. Rather than risking potential pseudo-labeling errors or learning confusion by forcefully classifying these regions, they are taken as uncertainty regions by exempted from pseudo-labeling and allowing the network to self-learning. Further, we employ connectivity detection and centrality detection to refine foreground pseudo-labels and reduce noise-induced errors. The performance is further enhanced by the iterated refinement process. The experimental validation on ISIC-2017, ISIC-2018, and PH2 datasets demonstrates that its performance is comparable to supervised methods, and exceeds that of other existing unsupervised methods. On the typical ISIC-2017 dataset, our method outperforms state-of-the-art unsupervised methods by 1.7% in accuracy, 6.6% in Dice coefficient, 4.0% in Jaccard index, and 10.6% in sensitivity. When the Metaverse Meets Carbon Neutrality: Ongoing Efforts and Directions

The metaverse has recently gained increasing attention from the public. It builds up a virtual world where we can live as a new role regardless of the role we play in the physical world. However, building and operating this virtual world will generate an extraordinary amount of carbon emissions for computing, communicating, displaying, and so on. This inevitably hinders the realization of carbon neutrality as a priority of our society, adding heavy burden to our earth. In this survey, we first present a green viewpoint of the metaverse by investigating the carbon issues in its three core layers, namely the infrastructure layer, the interaction layer, and the economy layer, and estimate their carbon footprints in the near future. Next, we analyze a range of current and emerging applicable green techniques for the purpose of reducing energy usage and carbon emissions of the metaverse, and discuss their limitations in supporting metaverse workloads. Then, in view of these limitations, we discuss important implications and bring forth several insights and future directions to make each metaverse layer greener. After that, we investigate green solutions from the governance perspective, including both public policies in the physical world and regulation of users in the virtual world, and propose an indicator Carbon Utility (CU) to quantify the service quality brought by an user activity per unit of carbon emissions. Finally, we identify an issue for the metaverse as a whole and summarize three directions: (1) a comprehensive consideration of necessary performance metrics, (2) a comprehensive consideration of involved layers and multiple internal components, and (3) a new assessing, recording, and regulating mechanism on carbon footprints of user activities.
