Label-noise constitutes a major challenge for facial expression recognition in the wild due to the ambiguity of facial expressions worsened by low-quality images. To deal with this problem, we propose a simple but effective Label-noise Robust Network (LRN) which explores the inter-class correlations for mitigating ambiguity that usually happens between morphologically similar classes. Specifically, LRN leverages a multivariate normal distribution to model such correlations at the final hidden layer of the neural network to suppress the heteroscedastic uncertainty caused by inter-class label noise. Furthermore, LRN utilizes a confidence-based label-free loss to extract compact intra-class feature representations under label noise while preserving the intrinsic inter-class relationships. Experiments on three in-the-wild facial expression datasets demonstrates the superiority of our method. © 2022 IEEE.

Extracting emergency events from a large amount of unstructured information is essential for improving early warning and emergency response. Existing event extraction methods for specialist fields often rely on well-designed syntactic dependencies or external knowledge graphs, which can provide high accuracy in their specialist fields. However, these approaches may have poor generalization capabilities and are difficult to apply directly to the emergency field. In addition, most existing methods ignore the interdependencies between event triggers and event arguments, which may be crucial semantic features for event extraction. To solve these problems, we propose a Chinese emergent event extraction method based on contrastive learning with event semantic features(CNEmergEE). Firstly, the proposed approach automatically expands the pre-trained model's vocabulary on a domain corpus. Then, continuing learning on the same corpus allows the model to complete domain adaptation. Finally, we use contrast learning to enable models to learn semantic representations of events. Experimental results on the CEC (Chinese Emergency Corpus) dataset show that our approach achieves better improvement. © 2023 IEEE.

In this work, we address the challenging task of Generalized Referring Expression Comprehension (GREC). Compared to the classic Referring Expression Comprehension (REC) that focuses on single-target expressions, GREC extends the scope to a more practical setting by further encompassing no-target and multi-target expressions. Existing REC methods face challenges in handling the complex cases encountered in GREC, primarily due to their fixed output and limitations in multi-modal representations. To address these issues, we propose a Hierarchical Alignment-enhanced Adaptive Grounding Network (HieA2G) for GREC, which can flexibly deal with various types of referring expressions. First, a Hierarchical Multi-modal Semantic Alignment (HMSA) module is proposed to incorporate three levels of alignments, including word-object, phrase-object, and text-image alignment. It enables hierarchical cross-modal interactions across multiple levels to achieve comprehensive and robust multi-modal understanding, greatly enhancing grounding ability for complex cases. Then, to address the varying number of target objects in GREC, we introduce an Adaptive Grounding Counter (AGC) to dynamically determine the number of output targets. Additionally, an auxiliary contrastive loss is employed in AGC to enhance object-counting ability by pulling in multi-modal features with the same counting and pushing away those with different counting. Extensive experimental results show that HieA2G achieves new state-of-the-art performance on the challenging GREC task and also the other 4 tasks, including REC, Phrase Grounding, Referring Expression Segmentation (RES), and Generalized Referring Expression Segmentation (GRES), demonstrating the remarkable superiority and generalizability of the proposed HieA2G. Video question answering（VideoQA）is a typical cross-modal understanding task. Its challenge lies in how to learn appropriate multimodal representation and cross-modal correlation for answer inference. Most existing video question answering methods focus on the latter，e. g.，relationship learning between each video frame or clip and word. In this work， we devote to advanced feature embedding of both video and query. We develop a clustering-based VLAD technique for VideoQA. The novelty of our work is the joint exploitation of temporal aggregation and correlation in multimodality. We propose an end-to-end trainable Transformed VLAD embedding network， named TVLAD-Net. In the era of big data, fragmented knowledge, multisource heterogeneity, and different representation forms of the same entities in various data sources have posed considerable challenges to entity fusion. How to effectively integrate multisource knowledge for the same entities has provoked vast amounts of attention and research from multiple disciplines. Most existing methods for entity fusion can be categorized into two classes: one is to establish an association between the same entities, and the other is to delete duplicate entities after knowledge fusion and create a new fusion entity. However, in these two classes of methods, the former does not achieve true knowledge fusion and semantic interoperability, while the latter may cause irreversible loss of original information. In this paper, we propose a novel entity fusion scheme: Hypernode. Hypernode fuses the same entity in different data sources into a new entity while retaining the original data. We verify the effectiveness of Hypernode on multiple models of link prediction experiments. Several practical application cases illustrate the applicability of Hypernode in data traceability, open domain knowledge fusion, and multi-modal knowledge graph fusion.

Deep learning methods have shown significant performance in medical image analysis tasks. However, they generally act like 'black box' without explanations in both feature extraction and decision processes, leading to lack of clinical insights and high risk assessments. To aid deep learning in envisioning diseases with visual clues, we propose Representation Group-Disentangling Network (RGD-Net), which can completely disentangle feature space of input X-ray images into several independent feature groups, each corresponding to a specific disease. Taking several semantically related and labeled X-ray images as input, RGD-Net firstly extracts completely group-disentangled representations of diseases through Group-Disentangle Module, which applies group-swap and linking operations to construct latent space by enforcing semantic consistency of attributes. To prevent learning degenerate representations defined as shortcut problem, we further introduce adversarial constricts on mapping from features to diseases, thus avoiding model collapse with former free-form disentanglement. Experiments on chestxray-14 and ChestXpert datasets demonstrate that RGD-Net are effective in predicting diseases with remarkable advantages, which leverage potential factors contributing to different diseases, thus enhancing interpretability in working patterns of deep learning methods. © 2022 IEEE.

The remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) technique enables the estimation of vital signs such as heart rate by analyzing pulse-induced subtle skin color variation from facial videos. Robustly deriving cardiac pulse information with head motion (\eg, rotation and swings) interference, remains a critical challenge, as it inevitably introduces complex noise disturbances such as facial geometric deformation and head motions. Most existing approaches primarily focus on how to extract the weak pulse signals, overlooking the detrimental effects induced by such noises. In response to this, we propose a Temporal Gated Face Alignment Network (TGFAN) to adaptively counteract motion noise in long-term video sequences. As key modules in TGFAN, the bidirectional temporal face alignment block first captures inter-frame motion discrepancies and achieves temporal alignment, and then extracts motion-robust pulse features by spatiotemporal convolution. Furthermore, we also propose a temporal gating mechanism, which can dynamically guide motion-disturbed segments for face alignment to alleviate local temporal interference. Experimental evaluations on four public datasets demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed model under both intra-dataset and cross-dataset tests. The traditional association rule representation method has no way to show the essential relationship between concepts and lacks understanding of the concept level. Concept lattice is a kind of data structure which can show the relationship between concepts, concept lattice also has unique advantages in the visualization and discovery of potential knowledge of association rules. In this paper, a visualization algorithm of association rules based on concept lattice is proposed. The algorithm visually displays the association rules extracted from concept lattice. Finally, this article combines the chronic disease record data of a certain hospital to analyze and visualize the association rules. The implementation results show that the visualization method has good effects in knowledge analysis and data display. © 2020 ACM.
