"Opinions on promoting the development of ‘Internet + medical health’ issued by the General Office of the State Council" in 2018 pointed out that we need to improve the supporting system of "Internet + medical health" and establish a comprehensive telemedicine application system. Support the medical and health institutions and the eligible third-party organizations to build the Internet information platforms and develop the telemedicine, the health consultation and the health management services. We will accelerate the construction and application of an intelligent information platform for the family doctors’ contracting services, encourage the online contracting services, and provide the online health consultation, the appointment referral, the follow-up of chronic diseases, the health management and the extended prescriptions. Why Batch Normalization Damage Federated Learning on Non-IID data?

As a promising distributed learning paradigm, federated learning (FL) involves training deep neural network (DNN) models at the network edge while protecting the privacy of the edge clients. To train a large-scale DNN model, batch normalization (BN) has been regarded as a simple and effective means to accelerate the training and improve the generalization capability. However, recent findings indicate that BN can significantly impair the performance of FL in the presence of non-i.i.d. data. While several FL algorithms have been proposed to address this issue, their performance still falls significantly when compared to the centralized scheme. Furthermore, none of them have provided a theoretical explanation of how the BN damages the FL convergence. In this paper, we present the first convergence analysis to show that under the non-i.i.d. data, the mismatch between the local and global statistical parameters in BN causes the gradient deviation between the local and global models, which, as a result, slows down and biases the FL convergence. In view of this, we develop a new FL algorithm that is tailored to BN, called FedTAN, which is capable of achieving robust FL performance under a variety of data distributions via iterative layer-wise parameter aggregation. Comprehensive experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed FedTAN over existing baselines for training BN-based DNN models. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

To break data silos and address the challenge of green communication, federated learning (FL) is widely used at network edges to train deep learning models in mobile edge computing (MEC) networks. However, many existing FL algorithms do not fully consider the dynamic environment, resulting in slower convergence of the model and larger training energy consumption. In this paper, we design a dynamic asynchronous federated learning (DAFL) model to improve the efficiency of FL in MEC networks. Specifically, we dynamically choose a certain number of mobile devices (MDs) by their arrival order to participate in the global aggregation at each epoch. Meanwhile, we analyze the energy consumption model of local update and upload update, and formulate the problem as a dynamic sequential decision problem to minimize the energy consumption, which is NP-hard. To address it, we propose an energy-efficient algorithm based on deep reinforcement learning named DDAFL, to intelligently determine the number of MDs participating in global aggregation according to the state of MEC networks at each epoch. Compared with baseline schemes, the proposed algorithm can significantly reduce energy consumption and accelerate model convergence.

In this paper, we consider the problem of cooperative sensing via a system of multi-unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), where each UAV is equipped with a directional antenna to cooperatively perform detection tasks for several targets of interest. To measure the perception ability of the system, we choose the detection probability as the metric, aiming to maximize the sum detection probability of targets by jointly optimizing UAVs’ deployment and directional antenna orientations. To tackle the inherent nonconvexity of the formulated problem, we first decompose it into two sub-problems, i.e., a slave problem for optimizing the antenna orientations with a given UAVs’ deployment, and a master problem for optimizing the UAVs’ deployment. By virtue of the slave problem structure, an efficient block coordinate descent (BCD) algorithm is developed. Meanwhile, to deal with the lack of the closed expression of the sum detection probability with respect to the UAVs’ deployment, we further develop an iterative algorithm to acquire an efficient solution with the aid of Gibbs Sampling (GS) approach. Extensive simulations demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm.

Cloud storage services have been used by most businesses and individual users. However, data loss, service interruptions and cyber attacks often lead to cloud storage services not being provided properly, and these incidents have caused financial losses to users. Second, traditional and single-cloud model disaster recovery services are no longer suitable for the current complex cloud storage systems. Therefore, a scheme to provide disaster recovery for cloud storage services in a multi-cloud storage environment is needed in real production. In this paper, we propose a disaster recovery scheme based on blockchain technology. The proposed scheme outlined in this study aims to address the issue of data availability within the cloud storage landscape. The proposed scheme achieves this goal by dividing data into hot and cold categories, verifying the integrity of copy data via blockchain technology, and utilizing blockchain networks to manage multi-cloud storage systems. Experimental findings demonstrate that the proposed scheme yields superior results in terms of computation and time overheads.

Confidence-aware Contrastive Learning for Selective Classification

Selective classification enables models to make predictions only when they are sufficiently confident, aiming to enhance safety and reliability, which is important in high-stakes scenarios. Previous methods mainly use deep neural networks and focus on modifying the architecture of classification layers to enable the model to estimate the confidence of its prediction. This work provides a generalization bound for selective classification, disclosing that optimizing feature layers helps improve the performance of selective classification. Inspired by this theory, we propose to explicitly improve the selective classification model at the feature level for the first time, leading to a novel Confidence-aware Contrastive Learning method for Selective Classification, CCL-SC, which similarizes the features of homogeneous instances and differentiates the features of heterogeneous instances, with the strength controlled by the model’s confidence. The experimental results on typical datasets, i.e., CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, CelebA, and ImageNet, show that CCL-SC achieves significantly lower selective risk than state-of-the-art methods, across almost all coverage degrees. Moreover, it can be combined with existing methods to bring further improvement. © 2024, CC BY.

In this paper, we consider the problem of multi-unmanned aerial vehicles' (UAVs), scheduling for cooperative jamming, where UAVs equipped with directional antennas perform collaborative jamming tasks against several targets of interest. To ensure effective jamming towards the targets, we formulate it as an non-convex optimization problem, aiming to minimize the communication performance of the targets by jointly optimizing UAVs' deployment and directional antenna orientations. Due to the unique structure of the problem, we derive an equivalent transformation by introducing a set of auxiliary matrices. Subsequently, we propose an efficient iterative algorithm based on the alternating direction method of multi-pliers (ADMM), which decomposes the problem into multiple tractable subproblems solved in closed-form or by gradient projection method. Extensive simulations validate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm.

The direction of arrival (DOA) estimation of the signal is an important task in radio signal positioning. Various methods have been investigated to cope with the DOA task. However, since the imperfect interference factors are often present in practical antenna arrays, the performance of DOA estimation is often significantly degraded. Besides, few methods deal with the DOA estimation for signals of multiple frequencies. In this paper, we consider the problem of two-dimensional DOA estimation in the presence of imperfect factors, and propose a novel approach where the convolutional attention network is used for DOA estimation. The frequency information is introduced as a token added to the network, which improves the network robustness while taking into account the case of the signal of multiple frequencies. Besides, we extend the mean square error (MSE) to the design of a new loss function for training to improve the accuracy of the model. The advantages of the proposed DOA estimation scheme are demonstrated through numerical experiments.

With fast development of Cyber Physical System, the variety and volume of data generated from different edge servers are fairly considerable. Mining and exploiting the data would definitely bring huge advantages. However, there are two major issues exposed in the process. First, utilizing the data with high efficiency is challenging in edge computing environment. Second, data from multiple edge servers often contain sensitive information such as user preferences, which will give rise to privacy breach risks when using the data. Locality-Sensitive Hashing and amplified technology are utilized for dealing with two problems. In this paper, we propose a novel privacy-protection approach named SRchain-LSH in edge computing environment which is based on amplified Locality-Sensitive Hashing technique. In order to verify high accuracy and efficiency of our proposal, large sets of experiments are conducted. According to experimental results, our proposal shows better performance than those of comparative methods in terms of MAE , RMSE and time costs. For our method, the best value of MAE is about 0.41 and time cost is about 0.1 seconds, which are more accurate and efficient than comparative methods. © 2022 IEEE.

The recent emergence of time series contrastive clustering methods can be categorized into two classes. The first class uses contrastive learning for universal representations, which can be effective in various downstream tasks, but overlooks important categorical information and clustering objectives, leading to unsuitable models. The second class incorporates contrastive learning into clustering objectives but fails to fully explore potential connections and structures between time series data. To this end, we propose the "Time Series Graph-augmented Contrastive Clustering (TSGCC) method", a graph-augmented contrastive learning framework aiming to create cluster-friendly features and assignments by iteratively optimizing contrastive loss. The method uses a weighted KNN graph to build positive and negative sample pairs, projecting the instances into a feature space with the dimensionality number of clusters. Experimental results demonstrate that TSGCC outperforms 18 advanced time-series clustering methods on the 36 representatives out of the 128 UCR benchmarks, achieving the best clustering results on 12 datasets, with the highest average rank (3.22) of RI and the second-highest average rank (3.89) of NMI among 18 clustering methods. We further compared our method with recent approaches on the entire set of 128 UCR datasets, demonstrating our method's broad applicability and effectiveness. © 2024, The Authors.
