Weakly supervised semantic segmentation (WSSS), which aims to mine the object regions by merely using class-level labels, is a challenging task in computer vision. The current state-of-the-art CNN-based methods usually adopt Class-Activation-Maps (CAMs) to highlight the potential areas of the object, however, they may suffer from the part-activated issues. To this end, we try an early attempt to explore the global feature attention mechanism of vision transformer in WSSS task. However, since the transformer lacks the inductive bias as in CNN models, it can not boost the performance directly and may yield the over-activated problems. To tackle these drawbacks, we propose a Convolutional Neural Networks Refined Transformer (CRT) to mine a globally complete and locally accurate class activation maps in this paper. To validate the effectiveness of our proposed method, extensive experiments are conducted on PASCAL VOC 2012 and CUB-200-2011 datasets. Experimental evaluations show that our proposed CRT achieves the new state-of-the-art performance on both the weakly supervised semantic segmentation task the weakly supervised object localization task, which outperform others by a large margin. A fundamental problem in cognitive radio is spectrum sensing, which detects the presence of the primary users in a licensed spectrum. To boost the detection performance and robustness, the multiantenna detector has been investigated and various related methods have been developed, e.g., the energy detector, the eigenvalue arithmetic-to-geometric mean detector, and the generalized likelihood ratio test detector. Cooperative sensing, which makes use of multiple receivers distributed in different locations, has the advantage of being able to make full use of the distributed antennas and enjoy a high spatial diversity gain. However, the successful employment of cooperative sensing depends on the reliable information exchange among the cooperating receivers over a long range, which may be impractical for real-world scenarios. In this paper, we consider the scenario where each receiving node can only broadcast its received raw data in a short-range communication fashion. We propose a novel cooperative sensing scheme by allowing each node to send to the fusion center only local correlation coefficients, computed within a neighborhood. A detection algorithm, based on matrix factorization of the partially received sample covariance matrix, i.e., with missing entries, is proposed. The performance of our proposed cooperative scheme is verified via numerical experiments.

Metabolic engineering for biomass production using microorganisms' cell has received considerable attention in recent years. This is due to the biomass products being extensively used in the field of food additives, supplements, pharmaceuticals, and polymer materials. In this paper, ethanol production in Escherichia coli (E. coli) is the desired product. Sugarcane and corn are often used to produce ethanol. However, one of the problems to produce adequate amounts of ethanol is that large areas are needed to plant sugarcane and corn. Furthermore, the amount of time for the process of dry milling and wet milling is high, which are 40 to 50 hours and 24 to 48 hours, respectively. The wet laboratory is also having limitation on the production of ethanol in microorganisms because the amount of the ethanol produced is not satisfying. Hence, a lot of metabolic engineering techniques is introduced to enhance the production of ethanol in E. coli, such as gene knockout strategy, but the production is yet to meet the demand. Therefore, this paper proposes a hybrid algorithm of Particle Swarm Optimization with the Artificial Bee Colony algorithm (PSOABC) to identify the optimal set of gene knockout strategy to improve the ethanol production in E. coli. A list of genes to knockout, production of the desired product, and growth rate are presented in this paper. PSOABC has shown better performance in terms of production, growth rate and accuracy. © 2022 Association for Computing Machinery.

In this paper, we propose a novel feature decoupling method to tackle two critical problems in the lung nodule segmentation task: (i) ambiguity of nodule boundary leads to the imprecise segmentation boundary and (ii) the high false positive rate of segmentation result. Our motivation is that an accurate segmentation network needs explicitly modeling the nodule boundary and texture information, and suppressing the noise information. To do so, a novel Deep Feature Decoupling Module (DFDM) is proposed to decouple the nodule boundary, noise, and texture information from the original feature maps. The decoupled boundary and texture information is used to benefit the segmentation, and the noise information is removed from the input features to reduce the false positive rate. The proposed DFDM consists of three parallel branches, including Boundary Sensitive Branch (BSB), Noise Removal Branch (NRB), and Texture Preserving Branch (TPB) to decouple the mentioned three information, respectively. In particular, we design our BSB with a novel architecture to effectively capture the boundary information of lung nodules. We apply the proposed DFDM to the U-Net architecture and achieve convincing segmentation results on the LIDC-IDRI dataset.

3D anomaly detection has recently become a significant focus in computer vision. Several advanced methods have achieved satisfying anomaly detection performance. However, they typically concentrate on the external structure of 3D samples and struggle to leverage the internal information embedded within samples. Inspired by the basic intuition of why not look inside for more, we introduce a straightforward method named Internal Spatial Modality Perception (ISMP) to explore the feature representation from internal views fully. Specifically, our proposed ISMP consists of a critical perception module, Spatial Insight Engine (SIE), which abstracts complex internal information of point clouds into essential global features. Besides, to better align structural information with point data, we propose an enhanced key point feature extraction module for amplifying spatial structure feature representation. Simultaneously, a novel feature filtering module is incorporated to reduce noise and redundant features for further aligning precise spatial structure. Extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of our proposed method, achieving object-level and pixel-level AUROC improvements of 4.2% and 13.1%, respectively, on the Real3D-AD benchmarks. Note that the strong generalization ability of SIE has been theoretically proven and is verified in both classification and segmentation tasks. © 2025, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (***). The application on a blockchain cannot maintain secrecy because its data is replicated across all peers in the network. To remedy this problem, Hyperledger Fabric introduces private data collection (PDC) into its smart contract (i.e. chaincode) to facilitate applications that require privacy. However, recent studies have revealed that PDC is too complex for chaincode developers to fully understand and use correctly, leading to privacy leaks vulnerabilities. In this paper, we present an empirical study on the prevalence of PDC misuse in chaincodes by extracting privacy leakage cases from StackOverflow posts and Hyperledger Fabric repositories on GitHub. Subsequently, we systematically categorize the misuse of PDC into three categories of vulnerabilities resulting in the leakage of private data and provide formal definitions for them. Furthermore, we develop PDChecker, an automated security analysis framework for identifying the privacy and security vulnerabilities in Fabric chaincodes. We evaluated PDChecker on 956 real-world chaincodes applying PDC and found that 67.78% of them contain at least one privacy leakage vulnerability. In addition, PDChecker uncovered 10 zero-day vulnerabilities documented by the China National Vulnerability database.

Toward Cost-effective Adaptive Random Testing: An Approximate Nearest Neighbor Approach

Adaptive Random Testing (ART) enhances the testing effectiveness (including fault-detection capability) of Random Testing (RT) by increasing the diversity of the random test cases throughout the input domain. Many ART algorithms have been investigated such as Fixed-Size-Candidate-Set ART (FSCS) and Restricted Random Testing (RRT), and have been widely used in many practical applications. Despite its popularity, ART suffers from the problem of high computational costs during test-case generation, especially as the number of test cases increases. Although several strategies have been proposed to enhance the ART testing efficiency, such as the forgetting strategy and the k-dimensional tree strategy, these algorithms still face some challenges, including: (1) Although these algorithms can reduce the computation time, their execution costs are still very high, especially when the number of test cases is large;and (2) To achieve low computational costs, they may sacrifice some fault-detection capability. In this paper, we propose an approach based on Approximate Nearest Neighbors (ANNs), called Locality-Sensitive Hashing ART (LSH-ART). When calculating distances among different test inputs, LSH-ART identifies the approximate (not necessarily exact) nearest neighbors for candidates in an efficient way. ExpertDRL: Request Dispatching and Instance Configuration for Serverless Edge Inference with Foundation Models

The prevalence of the pre-training & fine-tuning paradigm enables machine learning models to quickly adapt to various downstream tasks by fine-tuning pre-trained foundation models (FMs), greatly facilitating various IoT applications that rely on model inference in dynamic edge serverless environments. Efficiently dispatching inference requests and configuring instances to batch inference requests can significantly enhance resource efficiency. However, existing serverless inference solutions are tailored for traditional models, make coarse-grained request dispatching and instance configuration decisions, fail to exploit the shared model backbone characteristics of the FM and capture delayed rewards in dynamic environments, and ignore communication latency between edge sites, resulting in high costs and constraint violations. In this paper, we leverage our insight that fine-grained batch inference requests can effectively exploit the shared model backbone feature of FM to save monetary costs. We propose an algorithm that incorporates deep reinforcement learning (DRL) and expert intervention for fine-grained request dispatching and instance configuration, where the DRL component outputs fractional solutions as guidance, while the expert intervention module integrates our insights—batching reduces monetary costs at the expense of increased inference latency, whereas higher configurations shorten inference latency. This module rounds fractional solutions and adjusts instance configurations to search for optimal solutions while satisfying constraints, with theoretical guarantees rigorously proved. Finally, we conducted our experiments on an OpenFaas-based platform and simulator, and extensive trace-driven evaluation results show that ExpertDRL can save costs by up to 85.14% and improve request acceptance ratio by up to 26.93%, compared to the state-of-the-art solution. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Developing Amharic Sign Language Recognition Model for Amharic Characters Using Deep Learning Approach

Hearing-impaired people use Sign Language to communicate with each other as well as with other communities. Usually, they are unable to communicate with normal people. Most of the people without hearing disability do not understand the Sign Language and unable to understand hearing-impaired people. So, they need recognition of Sign Language to text. In this research, a model is optimized for the recognition of Amharic Sign Language to Amharic characters. A convolutional neural network model is trained on datasets gathered from a teacher of Amharic Sign Language. Frame extraction from Amharic Sign Language video, labeling and annotation, XML creation, generate TFrecord, and training models are major general steps followed for developing models to recognize Amharic Sign Language to characters. After training of the neural network is completed, the model is saved for recognition of Sign Language from a video system or from the frame of video. The accuracy of the model is the summation of confidence of individual alphabets correctly recognized divided by the number of alphabets presented for evaluation for Faster R-CNN and SSD. Hence, the mean average accuracy of the Faster R-CNN and Single-Shot Detector is found to be 98. 25% and 96 % respectively. The model is trained and evaluated for the character of the Amharic language. The research will continue to include the remaining words and sentence used in Amharic Sign Language to have a full-fledged Sign Language recognition model to a complete system. © 2021, CC BY.

With high spectral resolution, hyperspectral image(HSI) data will result in the Hughes phenomenon, which brings a huge challenge to hyperspectral image classification(HIC). Feature extraction can be applied to address this problem. But several traditional methods often ignore the spatial structure information of HSI data. In this paper, we propose a tensor nuclear norm based matrix regression based projections(TNMRP) for feature extraction of hyperspectral images. Firstly, TNMRP preprocesses the data by a filling method. Then, it automatically builds the graph of block-tensor samples and uses the optimal sparse coding coefficients to obtain the weight matrix. Finally, based on tensor representation, TNMRP calculates the optimal projection matrix. Experiments of classification on Indian Pines and Pavia University databases demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.
