Longitudinal, Multimodal Tracking Reveals Lasting Neurovascular Impact of Individual Microinfarcts

Microinfarcts, the "invisible lesions", are prevalent in aged and injured brains and associated with cognitive impairments, yet their neurophysiological impact remains largely unknown. Using a multimodal chronic neural platform that combines functional microvasculature imaging with spatially resolved neural recording, the neurovascular effect of a single microinfarct is investigated. Unlike larger strokes, microinfarcts induced only temporary suppression of neural activity with minimal cell death, with recovery paralleling vasculature remodeling at the infarct core. Neural activity is more severely suppressed at the shallower cortical layer despite milder vascular damage compared to deeper layers, and the excitability of fast-spiking interneurons attenuation is accompanied by heightened bursting of regular spiking neurons. Spike phase locking at the low-gamma band is disrupted, indicating a lasting impairment of long-range assembly communication. These results highlight the subtle yet significant neurovascular disruptions of a single microinfarct. © 2025 The Author(s). Advanced Science published by Wiley-VCH GmbH.

As the advantages of course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs) become widely accepted as a mainstream high-impact practice for undergraduate STEM education, it is paramount for instructors to be trained in effective practices for CURE development and implementation. The Mentoring the Integration of Research Into the Classroom (MIRIC) Network is a community of practice dedicated to providing current and future instructors with long-term support in implementing CUREs tailored to specific academic environments. Through the use of virtual synchronous all-network discussions as well as participant-selected affinity groups, MIRIC provides instructors with a dynamic and diverse community of educators in which to engage in long-term conversation in best practices in CURE development and implementation. Survey data on MIRIC participants reveals both success in providing instructors with the tools they need to succeed in CURE development and inspiration for evolving network focus and direction in the future. © 2024 The Author(s). There is a growing support from data management and analysis in the clinical and operational support at health services, impacting positively the patient outcome. Studies report that data management provides gains in productivity and raises the value of health services [1]. In this context, the interoperability of information systems (IS) at the environment of health services assumes an important role in spreading information and supporting different activities and procedures. The Brazilian government, through its Unified Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde – SUS), aimed to support and organize the growing use of data technology in the healthcare sector, formalizing protocols and concepts of interoperability used in both public and private health systems. Through applying this MF, it is expected to identify the state of interoperability at Brazilian healthcare institutions, defining a comparative scenario that allows the alignment of efforts in its strategic development in healthcare services, benefiting users and healthcare network.

For many diseases applications, it is beneficial to simultaneously observe multiple biomarkers at a time. However, current PET systems are unable to image multiple tracers in one session due to annihilation photons being indistinguishable across radiotracers. However with the utilization of one or more positron emitting radionuclides that also emit a prompt gamma (positron + prompt gamma ray emitter), the latter signal can be used to unmix the tracer signals and facilitate multiplex PET or mPET. With the use of prompt-gamma-positron emitters, an issue arises with the correct identification of the two annihilation photons in a triple photon coincidence. In this work, we present a maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) framework that uses spatial, timing, and energy information to return the most probable line of response (LOR). We validate our method using simulated data. Results indicate we can achieve > 99% accuracy at identifying the correct LOR for a 22 Na source.

The solid-solution reaction between an alkali cation and an active host material is known as a singlephase redox mechanism,and it is typically accompanied by a continuous voltage *** is distinct from the typical alkali cation intercalation reaction at an equivalent site of the active host material,which exhibits a voltage ***,we report an unusual solid-solution potassium-ion intercalation mechanism with a low-voltage plateau capacity on multilayered turbostratic graphene nanosheets(T-GNSs).Despite the disordered graphitic structure with a broad range of d-spacings(3.65–4.18À),the T-GNSs showed a reversible plateau capacity of~200 m A h g^(-1),which is higher than that of a well-ordered graphite nanoplate(~120 m A h g^(-1)).In addition,a sloping capacity of~220 m A h g^(-1)was delivered with the plateau capacity,and higher rate capabilities,better reversibility,and a more stable cycling performance were confirmed on the turbostratic ***-principles calculations suggest that the multitudinous lattice domains of the T-GNSs contain diverse intercalation sites with strong binding energies,which could be the origin of the high-performance solid-solution potassium-ion intercalation behavior when the turbostratic graphene stacks have a d-spacing smaller than that of equilibrium potassium–graphite intercalation compounds(5.35À).

Electrochromic devices (ECDs) are materials that can undergo reversible changes in transmittance when exposed to different applied potentials. While many conjugated heterocyclic oligomers, such as oligothiophenes, have been developed for this purpose, there is no reported study on the use of discrete oligomeric furans as ECD materials. In this work, we introduce a furan trimer that can be utilized as a discrete electrochromic material, which transitions from light yellow to red and has a very high coloration efficiency of 1940 cm²/C at 507 nm. We propose that the reversible π-stack formation of the oligomer radical cations is behind this phenomenon, as evidenced by both experimental and computational results. The derivability of this oligomer from biomass and its facile synthesis make it an interesting alternative for other existing organic electrochromic materials. © 2023 American Chemical Society

Despite widespread growth in the use and complexity of web portals, insufficient attention is paid to their quality. Thus, this paper aims to describe the validation process of the Brazilian Network of Rare Diseases Portal and identify a set of data quality attributes required for psychometric evaluations that will support the portal implementation. This protocol describes a cross- sectional study of mixed nature divided into three steps: A usability evaluation, a Delphi consensus, and an electronic service quality assessment. Also, the RE-AIM model will be applied at various stages of evaluative research. We hope the improvement carried out during the validation of RARAS can contribute to the dissemination of knowledge in the area and include, based on scientific knowledge and clinical experts, offering clear, attractive, and accessible information for the population. A research gap exists in determining components of integrated e-service quality, usability, and user experience evaluation model in general, and for rare disease web portals, in particular. Users of the RARAS Portal need to get validated content and the required reliable online services without doing exhaustive searches or visiting multiple sources, with the main focus on e-service quality.

Accurate cancer survival prediction can inform patient prognostication and treatment planning. Multi-source clinical data, including radiological images and pathological markers, demand effective machine learning strategies to make smart use of these data to enhance patient outcome. In this work, we proposed a novel strategy of translating multi-task learning to clinical applications for gastric cancer survival prediction, by leveraging the established medical knowledge of abdominal CT images and pathological staging markers to construct meaningful auxiliary tasks for joint learning with the target task. In implementing our method for survival prediction, we also customized a convolutional neural network to account for censored data. We evaluated our method with extensive experiments on a large cohort of 1,061 gastric cancer patients for both overall and progression-free survival prediction, showing superior performance when compared to multi-input learning and two state-of-the-art prediction methods. As an additional benefit, our method also enables survival prediction even before surgery. Source code is available at https://***/usernameoliver/***.

Motion correction (MC) is crucial in cardiac positron emission tomography (PET) to mitigate artifacts caused by cardiac, respiratory, and body motion. Motion correction not only improves image quality also leads to accurate quantification of cardiac health. In this study, we explore the effectiveness of optical flow based motion correction for gated cardiac PET. We present a novel method of joint estimation and denoising of parametric *** also present preliminary results of parametric image based optical flow MC, a novel MC method. By jointly denoising and estimating parametric images we see a $\lt4 \mathrm{~dB}$ increase in PSNR for Patlak $K$ image compared to no denoising and see at least a 1 dB PSNR gain with our MC method over all noise scenarios.
