Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a type of diabetes mellitus that attacks the retina of the eye. DR will cause patients to experience blindness slowly. Generally, DR can be detected by using a special instrument called an ophthalmoscope to view the inside of the eyeball. However, in conditions where there is a very small difference between the normal image and the DR image, computer-based assistance is needed for maximizing image reading value. In this research, a method of image quality improvement will be carried out which will then be integrated with a classification algorithm based on deep learning. The results of image improvement using Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) shows that the average accuracy of the method on several models is very competitive, 91% for the VGG16 model, 95% for InceptionV3, and 97% for EfficientNet compared to the results original image which only has an accuracy of 87% for VGG16 model, 90% for InceptionV3 model, and 95% for EfficientNet. However, in ResNet34 better accuracy is obtained in the original image with an accuracy of 95% while in the CLAHE image the accuracy value is only 84%. The results of this comprehensive evaluation and recommendation of famous backbone networks can be useful in the computer-Aided diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. The prognosis of clinical stage IIIa non-small cell lung cancer in Taiwan

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death. The treatment of stage IIIa remained the most controversial of all stages of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We reported on the heterogenicity and current treatment strategies of stage IIIa NSCLC in Taiwan. This study is a retrospective analysis using data from the Taiwan Society of Cancer Registry between January 2010 and December 2018. 4232 patients with stage IIIa NSCLC were included. Based on cell type, the best 5-year OS (40.40%) occurred among adenocarcinoma victims. The heterogenicity of T1N2 had the best 5-year OS (47.62%), followed by T4N0 (39.82%), and the others. Patients who underwent operations had better 5-year OS (over 50%) than those who did not (less than 30%). Segmentectomy (75.28%) and lobectomy (54.06%) showed better 5-year OS than other surgical methods (less than 50%). In multivariable analysis, young age, female, lower Charlson Comorbidity Index score, adenocarcinoma cell type, well differentiated, T1N2/T4N0 heterogenicity, treatment with operation, and segmentectomy/lobectomy/bilobectomy were significant factors. In conclusions, the heterogenicity of T1N2 had the best outcomes followed by T4N0. Patients received surgical treatment revealed much better outcomes than those did not. As always, multimodal therapies with individualized treatment tend to provide better survival outcomes. © 2023 The Authors. Cancer Medicine published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Multiple Imputation Method for High-Dimensional Neuroimaging data

Missingness is a common issue for neuroimaging data, and neglecting it in downstream statistical analysis can introduce bias and lead to misguided inferential conclusions. It is therefore crucial to conduct appropriate statistical methods to address this issue. While multiple imputation is a popular technique for handling missing data, its application to neuroimaging data is hindered by high dimensionality and complex dependence structures of multivariate neuroimaging variables. To tackle this challenge, we propose a novel approach, named High dimensional Multiple Imputation (HIMA), based on Bayesian models. HIMA develops a new computational strategy for sampling large covariance matrices based on a robustly estimated posterior mode, which drastically enhances computational efficiency and numerical stability. To assess the effectiveness of HIMA, we conducted extensive simulation studies and real-data analysis using neuroimaging data from a Schizophrenia study. HIMA showcases a computational efficiency improvement of over 2000 times when compared to traditional approaches, while also producing imputed datasets with improved precision and stability. © 2023, CC BY.

In agricultural water research, the adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) technology has emerged as a pivotal approach for large-scale data collection. Water availability in the context of water quality is very important, both for domestic and industrial purposes. For domestic purposes, drinking water and bathing water are separated. Meanwhile, for the palm oil industry, boiler filler is differentiated from additional process water (dilution water). Water quality parameters can be assessed from turbidity and Total Dissolve Solid (TDS). Measurements using measuring instruments separately and repeatedly require significant energy, time, and costs. This research was conducted with the primary objective of presenting a novel method for categorizing water quality with the approach of IoT sensor technology. The research methodology entailed the utilization of an integrated IoT water sensors system in conjunction with manual water categorization. The methods consist of (1) system design, (2) design and installation of sensor and IoT-based microcontrollers, and (3) accuracy and precision testing compared with laboratory measurements. The precision of the integrated IoT water sensors was assessed through a dedicated sensor precision test, resulting in an accuracy rate of 94.4% for the turbidity sensor and 97.5% for the TDS sensor. Notably, this approach successfully discriminated drinking water with valid categorization, while other water types, including groundwater, water with tea, and water with coffee, yielded null categorization results.

As the cost of genetic testing becomes more affordable each year, direct-to-customer (DTC) genetic testing services witness rapid market growth. This has encouraged the development of an easy-to-use website application to optimize potential customers to obtain informed choice regarding the offered DTC genetic testing as well as purchasing information. We present a wireframing process as a part of the agile software development process to build a web portal prototype for an Indonesia-based genetic testing service called DNAku. The approach in building the prototype used in this case is a part of the Agile Software Development Method. In brief, the wireframing stage resulted in this work consists of three main important outcomes. The first one is the use case diagram as a blueprint of this web-based system. A site map is then proposed as an extended version of the use case diagram which visualizes the whole pages with the links. Finally, based on this site map a series of page mock-ups are designed using Hyper Text Marking Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). The result of the prototype can be used as the basis for the next development stage, which is the coding stage based on the collected feedback from users. Considering the continuous application development via the wireframing method by taking into account the cycle of feedbacks from involved parties, this approach can strengthen the infrastructure to sustain DTC genetic business model, which has a niche market in Indonesia.

Local association measures provide useful insights in time-varying changes in association, especially between time-to-event variables. Such local dependence between two correlated random variables can be measured using the cross ratio function. The cross ratio function is defined as the ratio of conditional hazard functions which have been estimated using Bernstein polynomials before. Alternatively, the cross ratio function can be expressed in terms of (derivatives of) the joint survival function of the two random variables. In this paper, we discuss an alternative Bernstein-based plug-in estimator of the cross ratio function in which each of the ingredients is estimated separately. Next to asymptotic normality of the nonparametric estimator, a simulation study is used to assess its finite-sample performance. Finally, the novel estimator is applied to a real-life data application.

In the women's community, Breast Cancer (BC) is a severe disease. The World Health Organization reported in 2020 that 2.26 million deaths occur due to BC. BC is curable if detected early. Since thermal imaging is non-invasive and supports disease detection, it is commonly used in clinics. Compared to other methods, it keeps BC early and accurate. The proposed work aims to evaluate the performance of the Pretrained Deep-Learning Methods (PDLM) in detecting BC using the thermal images collected from the benchmark dataset. It includes the following stages: primary image processing, deep feature mining, handcrafted feature mining, feature optimization using Firefly-Algorithm (FA), classification and validation. Visual Lab thermal images were used in the study. The investigational outcome of this study authenticates that the VGG16, along with the DT, provides better detection accuracy (95.5%) compared to other classifiers used in this study. To justify the significance of the implemented technique, the proposed work not only improved accuracy, but also improved precision, sensitivity, specificity, and F1-Scores. © 2023 The Authors. Tropical disease is one of the infectious diseases that affect Indonesia. Many people die because of tropical diseases, such as dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), chikungunya, leprosy, lymphatic, and filariasis. The Indonesian government's lack of public policy is the main problem in treating and preventing tropical diseases. The paper aims to describe the analysis results of the incidence of DHF in Jakarta, Indonesia. The analysis used the DHF incidences data from the Jakarta Health service surveillance office representative and combined it with the meteorological parameters data. The meteorological parameters were collected from the Bureau of Meteorological Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG). The statistical analysis of this research used Pearson's correlation. The results show that the meteorological parameters affecting DHF incidences are temperature, humidity, and wind speed.

multidisciplinary collaboration between public health, system engineering, and UX is able to generate a solution in healthcare problem like stunting. The principle of Agile UX gathers requirements to generate an application design. Currently, various website and mobile applications are available to be utilized for stunting research. StuntingDB is one of many web-based applications that specialized in stunting data management. The application required several types of users to operate hierarchically. This research focused on Public Health Officers’ workflow that require a solution to in the form of assessment module for stunting DBMS by using Agile UX principle. The method collaborates agile team and UX team to solve Public Health Officer's difficulty in changing stunting status at pre-saved child patient's profile. Collaboration of both agile team and UX team successfully proposed an application design that system design.

The set of relevant cuts in a graph is the union of all minimum weight bases of the cut space. We show that a cut is relevant if and only if it is the a minimum weight cut between two distinct vertices.
