Determining Variables Associated with Annual Oil Palm Yield: An Explainable Gradient Boosting Approach

With the growing demands for Precision Agriculture (PA) in Indonesia, researchers have evaluated the utilization of Machine Learning for predicting oil palm yields and determining variables affecting them. Previous studies showed that meteorological variables, including rainfalls and wind speed, are associated with oil palm yields. In this research, the Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) model and the Shapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) were deployed for analyzing the importance of 15 agrometeorological variables in predicting oil palm yield. The best model attained 1.911 RMSE and 0.855 R2. By analyzing the weights and gains of the XGBoost model along with the SHAP values, it was found that the yield in the previous year, the age and number of plants, the area of peat lands, and meteorological parameters such as rainfall rates and the number of rainy days in the previous three years were considered important. The previous year's yield in particular possesses the greatest weight and gain values according to the model, and the highest SHAP value among all input variables. However, the meteorological data used in this research are only limited to rainfall rates and the number of rainy days. In the future, more diverse variables can be analyzed.

The industry is rapidly transitioning from the 4.0 era to the 5.0 era, prompting renewed interest among scholars in scheduling problems. They allow operations to process and assemble various components simultaneously. This bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of the diverse research perspectives on the potential challenges of integrated scheduling within the framework. We identified 357 Scopus articles and analysed co-occurrence keyword (CNK) by VOSViewer tools and Global Citation Score (GCS) by Scopus tools. The research data obtained from 1993 to 2023 mainly in the subject areas of Engineering, computer science, Maths, and others. CNK identified six cluster keywords, and nine most cited articles based on normalised GCS. These results contribute to our understanding of the development of scheduling algorithms, shifting from an emphasis on manufacturing transfers to contemporary demand-centric research directions. Furthermore, this research provides a valuable perspective for policymakers, plant personnel, and manufacturing managers to make informed decisions.

We introduce the Brain Language Model (BrainLM), a foundation model for brain activity dynamics trained on 6,700 hours of fMRI recordings. Utilizing self-supervised masked-prediction training, BrainLM demonstrates proficiency in both fine-tuning and zero-shot inference tasks. Fine-tuning allows for the accurate prediction of clinical variables like age, anxiety, and PTSD as well as forecasting of future brain states. Critically, the model generalizes well to entirely new external cohorts not seen during training. In zero-shot inference mode, BrainLM can identify intrinsic functional networks directly from raw fMRI data without any network-based supervision during training. The model also generates interpretable latent representations that reveal relationships between brain activity patterns and cognitive states. Overall, BrainLM offers a versatile and interpretable framework for elucidating the complex spatiotemporal dynamics of human brain activity. It serves as a powerful "lens" through which massive repositories of fMRI data can be analyzed in new ways, enabling more effective interpretation and utilization at scale. The work demonstrates the potential of foundation models to advance computational neuroscience research. © 2024 12th International Conference on Learning Representations, ICLR 2024. The need for an early screening and computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) system based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the field of radiology is essential to realize considering the large impact of lung diseases globally. However, developing AI requires a lot of data, which is a challenge because data in the health sector tends to be limited in quantity and has disparities between diagnostic categories (data imbalance). To overcome this issue, DINO ViT models was trained with the publicly available COVID-19 Radiography Database in our previous study. The model was subsequently implemented into a web application, with this study focusing on the development of a prototype for the application. The study found this application can be useful for medical personnel and doctors in carrying out early screening and CAD. Meanwhile, it also highlighted the general unfamiliarity with AI applications among medical staff, emphasizing the need for increased education and training on AI's role in healthcare.

The infection of Plasmodium vivax is relatively less virulent than the deathliest Plasmodium falciparum. However, it still can lead to a fatal case and often induces recurring malaria due to dormant parasites in the liver. Thus, the research to study the drug to treat Plasmodium vivax is essential, where the enzyme dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) has recently become a new drug target. However, the drug-enzyme interaction study has only recently been conducted in Plasmodium falciparum (pfDHODH) due to the lack of the 3D structure of enzyme DHODH from Plasmodium vivax that is crucial for the study. Therefore, this study aimed to perform the modelling study of Plasmodium vivax DHODH (PvDHODH) to create a 3D structure as a basis for drug-protein interaction study in upcoming studies. Sequence pvDHODH (Accession: SCO68359.1) was used in homology modelling using Modeller 10.2 with the crystal structure of DHODH from DHODH (Accession: 7KZY) as a template. Overall, the model generated from the homology modelling was considered a good model, and the 3D structure was close to the native state according to several parameters, including DOPE score, GA341 score, QMEAN4 value, 3D-1D score, ERRAT2 score, and ProSA score. Ramachandran plot also revealed that almost all amino acids were distributed in the desirable and allowed area (99.1%), and only 0.9% were in generously allowed regions. Superimposition of the model with the template also indicated that the model has an almost similar structure and amino acids positioning, including in the binding pocket and active site. Therefore, the model can be used for downstream analysis in drug-protein interaction studies. Nevertheless, some improvements can still be performed to upgrade the quality of the model by deleting unaligned residues on the C-terminal and realigning the residues at the doubting site.

Students “attendance in class is one important success parameter in face-to-face learning processes. Conventional attendance systems, such as paper-based attendance sheets or identity card systems, require a long time in the manual recapitulation process. Without additional verifications, even computer vision-based methods are prone to fraudulent practices by the students instead of gaining their excitement and attention in a class. To stimulate students” attention in a class, this work designs an intelligent class attendance system, in which facial pattern and smile recognition are implemented by using the latter as an additional task-based verification to reduce the risks of fake attendance. For the face recognition module, this pilot study used FaceNet as a feature extractor combined with SVM for classification, whereas the Haar cascade algorithm is used for recognizing smiles. This face recognition pipeline was implemented as a service installed on minicomputers or Internet of Things (IoT) devices in each classroom and connected to an IP camera. Every recorded attendance will be sent as a notification to a mobile application for students that requires their active participation to confirm it with a smiling self-photo. The proposed pipeline obtained 92.86% accuracy on the test data, and 66.67% accuracy when evaluated in a real-life simulation setting through the implemented system. The lower accuracy in the simulation indicated that further improvements are indispensable, especially since the model obtained 28.57% False Negative Rate. Future studies will need to acquire more data and experiment with more efficient methods of attendance verification.

An accurate predictive model of temperature and humidity plays a vital role in many industrial processes that utilize a closed space such as in agriculture and building management. With the exceptional performance of deep learning on time-series data, developing a predictive temperature and humidity model with deep learning is propitious. In this study, we demonstrated that deep learning models with multivariate time-series data produce remarkable performance for temperature and relative humidity prediction in a closed space. In detail, all deep learning models that we developed in this study achieve almost perfect performance with an R value over 0.99.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a type of diabetes mellitus that attacks the retina of the eye. DR will cause patients to experience blindness slowly. Generally, DR can be detected by using a special instrument called an ophthalmoscope to view the inside of the eyeball. However, in conditions where there is a very small difference between the normal image and the DR image, computer-based assistance is needed for maximizing image reading value. In this research, a method of image quality improvement will be carried out which will then be integrated with a classification algorithm based on deep learning. The results of image improvement using Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) shows that the average accuracy of the method on several models is very competitive, 91% for the VGG16 model, 95% for InceptionV3, and 97% for EfficientNet compared to the results original image which only has an accuracy of 87% for VGG16 model, 90% for InceptionV3 model, and 95% for EfficientNet. However, in ResNet34 better accuracy is obtained in the original image with an accuracy of 95% while in the CLAHE image the accuracy value is only 84%. The results of this comprehensive evaluation and recommendation of famous backbone networks can be useful in the computer-Aided diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. Society 5.0 focuses on human productivity in the midst of advanced technological services. While the concept has human trust at its core, technology development is now leading to zero-trust architecture. In this scientometrics review, 107 selected papers were analyzed to obtain the nature of the Zero-knowledge Proof (ZKP) theory and its advanced applications to favor digital privacy in greater society. With the common literature review strategy, it was found that the most citations in this field appeared in 2018, with IEEE, Springer, and Elsevier as the top three publishers. By affiliations, China and United States are both leading countries where the researcher comes from. And as the positive trend emerged, the ZKP mechanism will keep being leveraged as one of the cryptographic toolsets in the cloud services, Internet of Things (IoT), smart contracts, healthcare, electronic systems, and many other industrial needs. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

In this paper, we propose a novel approach to locate and detect moving pedestrians in a video. Our proposed method first locates the region of interest (ROI) using a background subtraction algorithm based on guided filtering. This novel background subtraction algorithm allows our method to also filter unexpected noises at the same time, which could benefit the performance of our proposed method. Subsequently, the pedestrians are detected using YOLOv3 within the provided ROI. Our experiments showed that the proposed method has a competitive performance in the CDNET2014 dataset with a fast-processing time. © 2021 IEEE.
