Improvement of data management about weather in Indonesia is very supportive of the need for weather information. Currently, the weather information that is disseminated to the public is only based on sensor location points that are spread across Indonesia. However, supporting data generated from these sensors is only limited to certain areas. We hence develop a database system that can help collect weather information automatically via Twitter. This facilitates the Indonesian people in knowing weather information based on the completeness of data from sensor data and Twitter. The steps from the database that are built will be very helpful in collecting data about the weather throughout Indonesia. The basic step that we use in our database are conceptual, logical and physical design. The information obtained in this study is very important for efficient and effective data collection to achieve real-time automation of weather information. © 2021 IEEE.

A Bayesian Precision Response-adaptive Phase II Clinical Trial Design for Radiotherapies with Competing Risk Survival Outcomes

Many phase II clinical trials have used survival outcomes as the primary endpoints in recent decades. Suppose the radiotherapy is evaluated in a phase II trial using survival outcomes. In that case, the competing risk issue often arises because the time to disease progression can be censored by the time to normal tissue complications, and vice versa. Besides, much literature has examined that patients receiving the same radiotherapy dose may yield distinct responses due to their heterogeneous radiation susceptibility statuses. Therefore, the "one-dose-fit-all" strategy often fails, and it is more relevant to evaluate the subgroup-specific treatment effect with the subgroup defined by the radiation susceptibility status. In this paper, we propose a Bayesian precision phase II trial design evaluating the subgroup-specific treatment effects of radiotherapy. We use the cause-specific hazard approach to model the competing risk survival outcomes. We propose restricting the candidate radiation doses based on each patient’s radiation susceptibility status. Only the clinically feasible personalized dose will be considered, which enhances the benefit for the patients in the trial. In addition, we propose a stratified Bayesian adaptive randomization scheme such that more patients will be randomized to the dose reporting more favorable survival outcomes. Numerical studies have shown that the proposed design performed well and outperformed the conventional design ignoring the competing risk issue. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Background: To determine the effect of colchicine on cancer risk in patients with the immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs)-related to colchicine use. Methods: This is a time-dependent propensity-matched general population study based on the National Health Insurance Research database (NHIRD) of Taiwan. We identified the IMIDs patients (n = 111,644) newly diagnosed between 2000 and 2012 based on the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM)—274,712, 135, 136.1, 279.49, 518.3, 287.0, 696.0, 696.1, 696.8, 420, 429.4, 710.0, 710.1, 710.3, 710.4, 714.0, 720, 55.0, 55.1, 55.9, 556. Inclusion criteria: aged ≧ 20 years, if a patient had at least these disease diagnosis requirements within 1 year of follow-up, and, these patients had at least two outpatient visits or an inpatient visit. After propensity-matched according to age, sex, comorbidities, medications and index date, the IMIDs patients enter into colchicine users (N = 16,026) and colchicine nonusers (N = 16,026). Furthermore, time-dependent Cox models were used to analyze cancer risk in propensity-matched colchicine users compared with the nonusers. The cumulative cancer incidence was analyzed using Cox proportional regression analysis. We calculated adjusted hazard ratios (aHRs) and their 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) for cancer after adjusting for sex, age, comorbidities, and use of medicine including acetylcysteine, medication for smoking cessation such as nicotine replacement medicines (the nicotine patch) and pill medicines (varenicline), anti-inflammatory drugs and immunosuppressant drugs. Results: Comparing the colchicine nonusers, all cancer risk were mildly attenuated, the (aHR (95% CI)) of all cancer is (0.84 (0.55, 0.99)). Meanwhile, the colchicine users were associated with the lower incidence of the colorectal cancer, the (aHRs (95% CI)) is (0.22 (0.19, 0.89)). Students “attendance in class is one important success parameter in face-to-face learning processes. Conventional attendance systems, such as paper-based attendance sheets or identity card systems, require a long time in the manual recapitulation process. Without additional verifications, even computer vision-based methods are prone to fraudulent practices by the students instead of gaining their excitement and attention in a class. To stimulate students” attention in a class, this work designs an intelligent class attendance system, in which facial pattern and smile recognition are implemented by using the latter as an additional task-based verification to reduce the risks of fake attendance. For the face recognition module, this pilot study used FaceNet as a feature extractor combined with SVM for classification, whereas the Haar cascade algorithm is used for recognizing smiles. This face recognition pipeline was implemented as a service installed on minicomputers or Internet of Things (IoT) devices in each classroom and connected to an IP camera. Every recorded attendance will be sent as a notification to a mobile application for students that requires their active participation to confirm it with a smiling self-photo. The proposed pipeline obtained 92.86% accuracy on the test data, and 66.67% accuracy when evaluated in a real-life simulation setting through the implemented system. The lower accuracy in the simulation indicated that further improvements are indispensable, especially since the model obtained 28.57% False Negative Rate. Future studies will need to acquire more data and experiment with more efficient methods of attendance verification.

The spread of Corona Virus Disease 19 (COVID-19) in Indonesia is still relatively high and has not shown a significant decrease. One of the main reasons is due to the lack of supervision on the implementation of health protocols such as wearing masks in daily activities. Recently, state-of-the-art algorithms were introduced to automate face mask detection. To be more specific, the researchers developed various kinds of architectures for the detection of masks based on computer vision methods. This paper aims to evaluate well-known architectures, namely the ResNet50, VGG11, InceptionV3, EfficientNetB4, and YOLO (You Only Look Once) to recommend the best approach in this specific field. By using the MaskedFace-Net dataset, the experimental results showed that the EfficientNetB4 architecture has better accuracy at 95.77% compared to the YOLOv4 architecture of 93.40%, InceptionV3 of 87.30%, YOLOv3 of 86.35%, ResNet50 of 84.41%, VGG11 of 84.38%, and YOLOv2 of 78.75%, respectively. It should be noted that particularly for YOLO, the model was trained using a collection of MaskedFace-Net images that had been pre-processed and labelled for the task. The model was initially able to train faster with pre-trained weights from the COCO dataset thanks to transfer learning, resulting in a robust set of features expected for face mask detection and classification.

The simplest class of structures formed by N≥ 2 interacting RNAs consists of all crossing-free base pairs formed over linear arrangements of the constituent RNA sequences. For each permutation of the N strands the structure prediction problem is algorithmically very similar – but not identical – to folding of a single, contiguous RNA. The differences arise from two sources: First, "nicks", i.e., the transitions from one to the next piece of RNA, need to be treated with special care. Second, the connectedness of the structures needs to guaranteed. For the forward recursions, i.e., the computation of folding energies or partition functions, these modifications are rather straightforward and retain the cubic time complexity of the well-known folding algorithms. This is not the case for a straightforward implementation of the corresponding outside recursion, which becomes quartic. Cubic running times, however, can be restored by introducing linear-size auxiliary arrays. Asymptotically, the extra effort over the corresponding algorithms for a single RNA sequence of the same length is negligible in both time and space. An implementation within the framework of the ViennaRNA package conforms to the theoretical performance bounds and provides access to several algorithmic variants, include the handling of user-defined hard and soft constraints. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Minimum Φ-distance estimators for finite mixing measures

Finite mixture models have long been used across a variety of fields in engineering and sciences. Recently there has been a great deal of interest in quantifying the convergence behavior of the mixing measure, a fundamental object that encapsulates all unknown parameters in a mixture distribution. In this paper we propose a general framework for estimating the mixing measure arising in finite mixture models, which we term minimum Φ-distance estimators. We establish a general theory for the minimum Φ-distance estimator, where sharp probability bounds are obtained on the estimation error for the mixing measures in terms of the suprema of the associated empirical processes for a suitably chosen function class Φ. Our framework includes several existing and seemingly distinct estimation methods as special cases but also motivates new estimators. For instance, it extends the minimum Kolmogorov-Smirnov distance estimator to the multivariate setting, and it extends the method of moments to cover a broader family of probability kernels beyond the Gaussian. Moreover, it also includes methods that are applicable to complex (e.g., non-Euclidean) observation domains, using tools from reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces.
