Background: The sustainable development goals (SDGs) aim to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Understanding the current state of the HIV epidemic and its change over time is essential to this effort. This study assesses the current sex-specific HIV burden in 204 countries and territories and measures progress in the control of the epidemic. Methods: To estimate age-specific and sex-specific trends in 48 of 204 countries, we extended the Estimation and Projection Package Age-Sex Model to also implement the spectrum paediatric model. We used this model in cases where age and sex specific HIV-seroprevalence surveys and antenatal care-clinic sentinel surveillance data were available. For the remaining 156 of 204 locations, we developed a cohort-incidence bias adjustment to derive incidence as a function of cause-of-death data from vital registration systems. The incidence was input to a custom Spectrum model. To assess progress, we measured the percentage change in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 (threshold >75% decline), the ratio of incident cases to number of people living with HIV (incidence-to-prevalence ratio threshold <0·03), and the ratio of incident cases to deaths (incidence-to-mortality ratio threshold <1·0). Findings: In 2019, there were 36·8 million (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 35·1–38·9) people living with HIV worldwide. There were 0·84 males (95% UI 0·78–0·91) per female living with HIV in 2019, 0·99 male infections (0·91–1·10) for every female infection, and 1·02 male deaths (0·95–1·10) per female death. Global progress in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 was driven by sub-Saharan Africa (with a 28·52% decrease in incident cases, 95% UI 19·58–35·43, and a 39·66% decrease in deaths, 36·49–42·36). Elsewhere, the incidence remained stable or increased, whereas deaths generally decreased. The Agricultural Model Intercomparison and Improvement Project has shown that many wheat crop models can simulate grain yields and growth dynamics under a range of growing conditions,but simulation results often *** model uncertainties increase with higher temperatures and with combined increased temperature and CO,however,multi-model ensemble medians have proven with field observations to be a good predictor of observed data under various growing *** multi-model ensemble median simulations showed that global wheat production declines by 6% for each degree of global temperature *** simulated impact is similar to temperature impact assessments using statistical regression methods with aggregated farm *** on the temperature impact study,new simulations of increased temperature were combined with elevated CO and rainfall changes to assess their impact on yield and protein and included the possible role of genetic adaptations to climate change at local,regional and global scales.

He received his B.S. degree in biology from Colorado State University in 1997 and an M.S. degree in Biological conservation from California State University Sacramento in 2001. Don W. DeYoung(top third from left) received his D.V.M. from Michigan State University and Ph.D. from Colorado State University. He is a Diplomate from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Don has worked at the University of Arizona Tucson since 1979 and is the Associate Director of University Animal Care and has been involved with numerous studies of wildlife. Brian D. Jansen(top right) is a graduate research assistant working towards his M.S. degree in wildlife ecology at the University of Arizona Tucson. He is studying desert bighorn sheep responses to disease and mining in the Silver Bell Mountains Arizona. He received his B.S. in wildlife from the University of Arizona in 2002. Vernon C. Bleich(bottom left) received B.S. and M.A. degrees from California State University Long Beach and a Ph.D. from the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). He is a senior environmental scientist with the California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) where he supervises the Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheep Recovery Program (SNBSRP) and directs the Round Valley Project a long-term effort examining relationships between habitat quality prey densities and populations of mule deer and mountain sheep in the eastern Sierra Nevada. He has been a Professional Member of the Boone and Crockett Club since 1999 and in 2002 received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the College of Science Engineering and Mathematics at UA

Dilute Acid Pretreatment of Oil Palm Trunk Biomass at High Temperature for Enzymatic Hydrolysis

Old oil palm trunk (OPT) is available in large quantity in Southeast Asia and a potential lignocellulosic biomass resource for bioethanol production. Dilute acid (DA) pretreatment was applied to the old oil palm trunk for enzymatic saccharification. The pretreatment conditions were investigated through a fractional factorial experiment design. The pretreated substrates were analyzed for chemical composition, and their enzymatic digestibility was investigated and compared. The results indicated that the DA pretreatment was able to improve enzymatic hydrolysis by removing hemicelluloses from OPT. Mild pretreatment preserved more hemicellulose and cellulose in pretreated OPT, but severe pretreatment was necessary to achieve satisfactory enzymatic hydrolysis of OPT. For example, the DA pretreatment with 3% H 2 SO 4 at 180 °C for 40 min could achieve an 80% enzymatic hydrolysis.
