Le-fort I osteotomy has been widely used by maxillofacial surgeons as a procedure due to its versatility and simplicity to treat patient with dentofacial deformity. Technology such as virtual planning software has greatly aided surgeon to prepare for the surgery by allowing them to work with clinical engineer to plan for the surgery and create custom implants design on the patient’s scanned anatomy in form of three-dimensional (3D) model. Most of convergence study for skull was done by analyzing the total number of mesh elements. Hence, this study was conducted to determine the optimum mesh size by performing mesh convergence study using h-refinement method on the upper skull 3D model. The 2D Computed-Tomography (CT) images in DICOM format were used to create the 3D model by using Mimics software. The mesh refinement process of the segmented upper skull 3D model was performed in the 3-Matic software, and the mesh size used from 5 mm to 2.5 mm with 0.5 mm interval. Marc Mentat software was used to perform finite element analysis (FEA) where a fixed load was set on superior part of the skull meanwhile point load with 125N stress was applied on incisors. Results from the mesh convergence analysis showed that percentage difference of upper skull of 4.0 mm–3.5 mm mesh size is below 5% and from the convergence plot the line graph start to converge at 3.5 mm to 4 mm. Therefore, it can be concluded that 4 mm mesh size is the optimum mesh size for upper skull 3D model. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Textile-Based Washable Multimode Capacitive Sensors for Wearable Applications

Nowadays, textile-based sensors are of great interest because of the significance of intelligent and smart textiles in wearable applications because of textiles’ washability, flexibility, and durability. We developed conductive yarn-based textile sensors for wearable multimode human–machine interfaces (HMIs), breathing, and walking pattern detection. The low-cost sewing process is used to develop interdigitated capacitive (IDC) sensor patterns on shirts, masks, and shoe soles using ultrafine highly conductive thread. Four sensor-based touchpads (SBTPs) were developed on the shirt and showed multiple modes of operation based on the pressure of the finger touch. The multimode capacitive sensors-based HMI is connected to the laptop wirelessly to perform three different functions from each sensor. The sensors exhibit a sensitivity of 34.675, 29.440, and 25.789 pF/N at low, medium, and high touch pressure. The developed mask detects the breathing pattern of humans, whether it’s slow, normal, or fast. Shoe Insole developed sensors to see the walking pattern, either slow, normal, or running. The response and recovery time of the sensor system is 11 and 10 ms, respectively. Sensors tested for 20 000 detection cycles and responded stability. Also, the sensors responded accurately after washing with water and detergent water. Reported textile sensors are washable, flexible, stretchable, comfortable, and reusable, showing the practicality of proposed sensors for personalized healthcare, smart textiles, and electronic textiles (e-textiles). © 2022 IEEE.

Multi-Bands Joint Graph Convolution EEG Functional Connectivity Network for Predicting Mental Disorders

As a typical representative of mental disorders, anxiety and depression disorders have occupied a large number of people after the outbreak of the new crown epidemic. However, anxiety and depressive disorders are detected by screening with clinical scales, potentially undermining the efficacy of detecting mental disorders, as it is heavily contingent upon the personal condition of the individual participant and the expertise of diagnosing physician. Therefore, to predict the feasibility of individual-level mental disorders, we developed a multi-bands joint graph convolution network (MBJ-GCN) framework based on electroencephalogram (EEG) brain functional connectivity (FC) networks. The functional connectivity networks are fused with orthogonal power envelopes correlation across five different frequency bands. Furthermore, the five frequency bands of brain FC networks were then integrated using locally weighted clustering coefficients (LWCC), which were then combined into feature vectors to represent the vertexes. After that, we design parallel GCN layers with different inputs via random embeddings, which can recognize intrinsic mental disorder maps from the embeddings in GCNs. Finally, we concatenate the outputs of all GCN layers in the fully connected layer for prediction. The experimental results have shown that our proposed method has low mean absolute error (MAE) and high Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) performance compared with other prediction methods. It is possible to represent both individual characteristics and clinical information of potential patients using the proposed method. In conclusion, we extend traditional scale interviews to FC-based individual predictions, thereby taking a step towards the development of applicable techniques for quantitative real-world monitoring of mental disorders. © The author(s) 2024.

The dual-function of bioactive peptides derived from oyster (Crassostrea gigas) proteins hydrolysates

Oysters(Crassostrea gigas)have a wide range of functionality due to their nutritional and bioactive components. However, the bioactive peptides of oyster proteins are rarely reported, particularly their antidiabetes effects and antioxidants. Oyster proteins were extracted from fresh oysters using phosphatebuffered saline and simulated gastrointestinal digestion was performed. The degree of hydrolysis(DH), structural characterization, molecular weight(Mw)distribution, free amino acid, anti-diabetic activity, and antioxidant activity were studied during in vitro simulated gastrointestinal digestion. The results showed that the α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, α-amylase inhibitory activity, DPPH radical scavenging activity, and ABTS radical scavenging activity of the oyster protein gastrointestinal digest were increased(P < 0.05)from 0 to 33.96%, from 9.17% to 44.22%, from 9.01 μg trolox/mg protein to 18.48 μg trolox/mg protein, and from 21.44 μg trolox/mg protein to 56.21 μg trolox/mg protein, respectively. Additionally, the DH, β-turn structure, fluorescence intensity, free amino acid, and short peptide content(Mw < 1 000 Da)increased in the simulated gastrointestinal digestion. These results indicate that the digestive hydrolysates obtained from oyster proteins could be used as natural anti-diabetic and antioxidant agents.

Automated Testing for Service-Oriented Architecture: Leveraging Large Language Models for Enhanced Service Composition

This article explores the application of Large Language Models (LLMs), including proprietary models such as OpenAI's ChatGPT 4o and ChatGPT 4o-mini, Anthropic's Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Claude 3.7 Sonnet, and Google's Gemini 1.5 Pro, Gemini 2.0 Flash, and Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite, as well as open-source alternatives including Qwen2.5-14B-Instruct-1M, and commercially accessed models such as DeepSeek R1 and DeepSeek V3, which were tested via APIs despite having open-source variants, to automate validation and verification in Application Programming Interface (API) testing within a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). Our system compares internal responses from the Enuygun Web Server against third-party API outputs in both JSON and XML formats, validating critical parameters such as flight prices, baggage allowances, and seat availability. We generated 100 diverse test scenarios across varying complexities (1-4 flight results) by randomly altering request and response parameters. Experimental results show that Google Gemini 2.0 Flash achieved high accuracy (up to 99.98%) with the lowest completion time (85.34 seconds), while Qwen2.5-14B-Instruct-1M exhibited limited capability in processing complex formats. Models such as OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude Sonnet models also demonstrated strong performance in single-flight validation scenarios, making them suitable for low-latency, high-precision tasks. Our findings indicate that some open-source models can offer promising cost-effective alternatives, though performance significantly varies. This integration of LLMs reduced manual workload, improved test scalability, and enabled real-time validation across large-scale datasets. As LLM technologies mature, we anticipate further advances in automation, accuracy, and efficiency in software validation systems. © 2013 IEEE.

In the realm of multi-intent spoken language understanding, recent advancements have leveraged the potential of prompt learning frameworks. However, critical gaps exist in these frameworks: the lack of explicit modeling of dual-task dependencies and the oversight of task-specific semantic differences among utterances. To address these shortcomings, we propose DC-Instruct, a novel generative framework based on Dual-task Inter-dependent Instructions (DII) and Supervised Contrastive Instructions (SCI). Specifically, DII guides large language models (LLMs) to generate labels for one task based on the other task's labels, thereby explicitly capturing dual-task inter-dependencies. Moreover, SCI leverages utterance semantics differences by guiding LLMs to determine whether a pair of utterances share the same or similar labels. This can improve LLMs on extracting and discriminating task-specific semantics, thus enhancing their SLU reasoning abilities. Extensive experiments on public benchmark datasets show that DC-Instruct markedly outperforms current generative models and state-of-the-art methods, demonstrating its effectiveness in enhancing dialogue language understanding and reasoning. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Open Government data (OGD) refers to the provision of data produced by the government to the general public, in a format that is readily readable and can be used by machines with ease. It can also promote transparency, improve decision-making, enhance accountability, create economic opportunities, and encourage civic engagement. The OGD can help citizens understand the government and its legitimacy and transparency. Thus, when the government shares its data with people, it helps to create trust by being transparent, accountable, and promoting innovative solutions that benefit everyone. However, each published dataset has no indication of its quality assessment at all;thus, making it difficult for citizens to assess the reliability of the data from the OGD. Therefore, a data quality assessment for OGD should be developed. This will help create effective datasets which in turn help users understand the data. This study proposes QUALYST, a system that assesses Thailand's OGD dataset and validates it for analytic and visualization purposes. The study focuses on designing the data storage and implementing the assessment system. Furthermore, the proposed data quality dimensions, the developed data pipeline, and the assessment process are elaborated. Finally, the prototype system is demonstrated using Thailand's OGD datasets with examples in a visualized format. © 2023 IEEE.
