Accurate physical activity level (PAL) classification could be beneficial for osteoarthritis (OA) management. This study examines the impact of sensor placement and deep learning models on AL classification using Metabolic Equivalent of Task values. The results show that the addition of an ankle sensor (WA) significantly improves the classification of high intensity activities compared to wrist-only configuration (53% to 86.2%). The CNN-LSTM model achieves the highest accuracy (95.09%). Statistical analysis confirms multi-sensor setups outperform single-sensor configurations (p © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.

This report explores the experimental identification of magnetic flux density within the motor air gap, focusing on the development of a robot-based approach to automate the scanning procedure. Emphasis is placed on analyzing the distribution of magnetic flux within the motor’s spatial air gap, as well as the amplification of harmonics resulting from changes in air gap orientation. Drawing upon experimental findings, a model is proposed to illustrate the three-dimensional distribution of magnetic flux within the gap.

Vehicular ad hoc networks(VANETs)provide intelligent navigation and efficient route management,resulting in time savings and cost reductions in the transportation ***,the exchange of beacons and messages over public channels among vehicles and roadside units renders these networks vulnerable to numerous attacks and privacy *** address these challenges,several privacy and security preservation protocols based on blockchain and public key cryptography have been proposed ***,most of these schemes are limited by a long execution time and massive communication costs,which make them inefficient for on-board units(OBUs).Additionally,some of them are still susceptible to many *** such,this study presents a novel protocol based on the fusion of elliptic curve cryptography(ECC)and bilinear pairing(BP)*** formal security analysis is accomplished using the Burrows–Abadi–Needham(BAN)logic,demonstrating that our scheme is verifiably *** proposed scheme’s informal security assessment also shows that it provides salient security features,such as non-repudiation,anonymity,and ***,the scheme is shown to be resilient against attacks,such as packet replays,forgeries,message falsifications,and *** the performance perspective,this protocol yields a 37.88%reduction in communication overheads and a 44.44%improvement in the supported security ***,the proposed scheme can be deployed in VANETs to provide robust security at low overheads.

The growing popularity of the Android platform makes it a target of malware authors. The effective identification of such malware is an ongoing challenge. Several methods using machine learning have been proposed to prevent this threat. These methods are usually conventionally evaluated without considering the extent of performance over time. Given the evolving nature of both malware and benign apps, conventional evaluation may lack information. To imitate reality, this study compares the longitudinal performance of different machine learning models, using different strategies that combine permissions and API calls as features extracted through static analysis. Thus, to determine which strategy of features on which classifier are most effective to characterize malware for building a robust malware detector. To achieve this goal, on the one hand, we use a large real-world app set consisting of 100K (50k benign, 50k malware) apps date-labeled, collected across ten years, first seen between 2013 and 2022. On the other hand, each feature's strategy is fed into five classifiers (i.e., SVM, RF, LR, DT, and ANN), using old apps for the training and new apps for the evaluation. Among the assessed machine learning models, the SVM achieves the most promising results over time by employing the combination strategy of the high difference usage of API calls and permissions. © 2023 IEEE.

There has been a sharp rise in the number of fatalities and injuries caused by traffic accidents in urban areas. Cities often have video and image resources that can be analyzed manually using operators to address this problem. This paper introduces an automated collision detection system that utilizes publicly available images captured by Toronto's traffic camera system. The system is based on a Deep Learning model, specifically a DenseNet-161, employed to classify accidents and non-accidents. The results of this classification are then displayed on a graphical user interface. The primary aim of this study is to reduce medical response time and ultimately save lives by issuing automatic alerts. The proposed system has the potential to minimize the severity of accidents and decrease the number of fatalities by notifying emergency services once an accident is detected.

Energy-efficient solutions are in high demand in today's fast-developing technological environment, necessitating the use of sophisticated predictive modeling methods. Conventional forecasting systems have problems given the particular aspects related to home demand for energy. As a consequence, new strategies are constantly being created for more accurately foreseeing future occurrences. Weather, user habits, and advancements in technology interfere with precise forecasts even more. This study provides a novel application of the Gradient Boosting approach to solve such obstacles and enhance energy use prediction for residential applications. Through utilising the electrical energy of Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) and Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM), the suggested method takes into account prior use patterns, appliance-specific data, and external factors like as climate. The model's response to changes in the actual world provides exact estimates, providing homeowners with the information they require to make energy-saving decisions. This method also investigates the comprehending of Gradient Boosting models, showing key characteristics that affect energy usage patterns. Stakeholders focus heavily on interpretability to make informed decisions with regard to ways to save energy and resource allocation. © 2024 IEEE.

Motorists and construction workers both need to use extreme caution while passing through roadwork zones. This research provides a novel strategy for increasing the security of roadwork by combining Internet of Things (IoT) devices with object recognition through Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). To improve communication and data sharing with a centralized control center, this technology equips conventional traffic cones with integrated IoT devices. Traffic cones with IoT sensors track things like their location, the brightness of the surrounding area, and the volume of vehicles on the road. Useful information about the roadwork environment is supplied wirelessly from the cones to the control center. Live video feeds from the IoT-enabled traffic cones are analyzed using a CNN-based object identification algorithm. The model can view and follow vehicles, pedestrians, and other possible threats in a road construction zone. Construction workers and traffic management officials are immediately notified of potential safety hazards through real-time object detection warnings. In terms of roadwork safety, this integrated system has several advantages, such as enhanced knowledge of the current situation, faster identification of potential dangers, and more effective traffic management. Roadwork zones may be made safer for employees and the public using IoT technology and cutting-edge computer vision methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a mental disorder that severely affects social interaction and communication skills. A timely and accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective intervention. However, as an objective diagnostic tool, the existence of spurious connections and noise within the functional connectivity (FC) matrix in the brain contribute to the complexity of ASD diagnosis. In this study, we propose an unsupervised sparse graph structure learning framework, called NeuroSparse, for reasoning regarding the topological connectivity relationships between brain regions. First, the framework fuses spatiotemporal information from static and dynamic FC to provide a comprehensive representation of complex brain networks. Next, the context and neighborhood information of nodes are captured as their local and global embeddings, and the latent representations of node embeddings are learned, which are then decoded to infer the connectivity relationships among the regions of interest. Finally, we introduce three innovative loss functions to regularize and optimize the sparse representation generation process. The experimental results showed that, after learning using NeuroSparse, the FC matrix achieved state-of-the-art performance in ASD diagnosis using only a simple multilayer perceptron, indicating its wide-ranging application potential.
