In this paper, we investigate the collapsing of some multioperand addition related operations into a single array. More specifically we consider multiplication and Sum of Absolute Differences (SAD) and propose an array capable of performing the aforementioned operations for unsigned, signed magnitude, and two's complement notations. The array, called a universal array, is divided into common and controlled logic blocks intended to be reconfigured dynamically. The proposed unit was constructed around three main operational fields, which are feed with the necessary data products or SAD addition terms in order to compute the desired operation. It is estimated that a 66.6 % of the (3:2)counter array is shared by the operations providing an opportunity to reduce reconfiguration times. The synthesis result for a FPGA device, of the new structure, was compared against other multiplier organizations. The obtained results indicate that the proposed unit is capable of processing in 23.9 ns a 16 bit multiplication, and that an 8 input SAD can be computed in 29.8 ns using current FPGA technology. Even though the proposed structure incorporates more operations, the extra delay required over conventional structures is very small (in the order of 1% compared to Baugh&Wooley multiplier). Relativistic analysis of the mutual motion of the electromagnetic source and the observer suggests a possibility of an alternative approach to the problem of imaging. In the existing imaging systems, such as telescopes, radars, and interferometers, the angular resolution is determined by the spatial extent of the receiving aperture - the bigger the better. In the proposed relativistic imaging system, based on the induced Doppler effect, the resolution criterion is the velocity of the observer - the faster the better. In particular, we show how this can be achieved by pre-accelerating the charge carriers of the receiving antenna to a relativistic velocity prior to the interaction with the field of the source.

In this paper we present an implicit time stepping scheme for Maxwell's equations with a local truncation error of the fifth order in the time step. The convolution integral of the source wavelet and the Maxwell evolution operator is discretized using Simpson's rule, while the evolution operator itself is approximated by its [2/2]-Padé approximant. We show that the resulting time stepping scheme is unconditionally stable and a numerical experiment illustrates the performance of the method.

We describe a new method to determine whether there is additional information contained in the intracranial pulse morphology that cannot be explained by covariation with the mean intracranial pressure (ICP) alone. Our procedure calculates and displays the difference between the actual pulse morphology and the expected morphology given a predictor variable, such as the mean ICP. The display is intuitive and permits easy recognition or changes in morphology unaccounted for by the given predictor variable. This method can be applied to any signal that consists of a series of events that generate a consistent morphology that is correlated to other predictor variables. Our exploratory analysis or ICP signals revealed examples of changes in pulse morphology that were independent of mean ICP. This suggests the need for further work that examines the underlying physiology responsible for pulse morphology.

This paper presents the BNSI Slovenian Broadcast News database project. The result of the project is a database with speech and text corpus oriented toward large vocabulary continuous speech recognition in general domain. The speech corpus consists of 36 hours of transcribed evening and late night news. The raw database material was captured in the archive of national broadcaster RTV Slovenia that was a partner in the project. General Broadcast News transcription conventions were supplemented with language specific rules. The Transcriber tool was used to produce the transcriptions. All additional tools needed during the annotation process were also installed on a computer. Statistics of speech corpus is presented in the paper. The BNSI text corpus is generated from broadcasts' scenarios for a period of 7 years. 600 monthly shows' collections of text are included. They will be used to improve the language modeling in highly inflectional Slovenian language. The BNSI Slovenian Broadcast News database will be available through ELRA/ELDA.
