Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) play a vital role in the immune defence systems of various organisms and have garnered significant attention for their potential applications in biotechnology and medicine. There are several approaches to identifying AMPs including clinical isolation and characterization, functional genomics, microbiology techniques, and others. However, these methods are mostly expensive, time-consuming, and require well-equipped labs. To overcome these challenges, machine learning models are a potential solution due to their robustness and high predictive capability with less time and cost. In this study, we explored the efficacy of stacking-based ensemble machine-learning techniques to identify AMPs with higher accuracy and precision. Five distinct feature extraction methods, namely amino acid composition, dipeptide composition, moran autocorrelation, geary autocorrelation, and pseudoamino acid composition, were employed to represent the sequence characteristics of peptides. To build robust predictive models, different traditional machine learning algorithms were applied. Additionally, we developed a novel stacking classifier, aptly named StackAMP, to harness the collective power of these algorithms. Our results demonstrated the exceptional performance of the proposed StackAMP ensemble method in AMP identification, achieving an accuracy of 99.97%, 99.93% specificity, and 100% sensitivity. This high accuracy underscores the effectiveness of our approach, which has promising outcomes for the rapid and accurate identification of AMPs in various biological contexts. This study not only contributes to the growing body of knowledge in the field of AMP recognition but also offers a practical tool with potential applications in drug discovery, biotechnology, and disease prevention. © 2024 IEEE.

Data analytics have had a significant impact on tactical and workload planning in football. Football data is divided into two categories: event data, which captures on-the-ball events like passes and shots, and tracking data, which captures off-the-ball movements. However, traditional methods of collecting tracking data are expensive and inconvenient. Recently, AI solutions have emerged as low-cost and user-friendly alternatives to track players' movements from video streams. This paper introduces FOOTBALLTrace, an end-to-end AI system for tracking multiple football players from a panoramic game view. The system also incorporates a novel algorithm that detects potential occlusion events and ensures trajectory continuity for occluded players. The workflow involves five stages: panoramic view creation, player detection, player ID association, occlusion detection, and trajectory correction. The system utilizes YOLOv7 for multiple object detection and employs a pre-trained deep affinity network to assign unique IDs to players throughout the game. Occlusion detection and trajectory correction are achieved by extracting geometric features from discontinuous player trajectories. The system's performance was evaluated on full-length video data of a football game, with occlusion events manually extracted for training and testing the occlusion detection and trajectory correction algorithm. This article discusses the issues that come with system evolution, specifically the challenges of comprehending and maintaining old code created by unreachable developers. In this instance, we want to highlight the value of using code visualization to get a global perspective of the components and their dependencies, since this can assist in recognizing any possible structural problems. Additionally, visualization can shed light on the code's scalability and performance properties. A well-written program with clear syntax that respects low coupling and separation of concerns makes system maintenance and evolution easier, which saves time and money. Adopting a scalable and flexible language also makes maintenance and development smoother. In this paper, we made a visualization of Mage code in order to evaluate its syntax flexibility and scalability. © 2023 IEEE.

Data clustering is an essential technique for analyzing complex datasets and continues to be a central research topic in data *** clustering algorithms,such as K-means,are widely used due to their simplicity and *** paper proposes a novel Spiral Mechanism-Optimized Phasmatodea Population Evolution Algorithm(SPPE)to improve clustering *** SPPE algorithm introduces several enhancements to the standard Phasmatodea Population Evolution(PPE)***,a Variable Neighborhood Search(VNS)factor is incorporated to strengthen the local search capability and foster population ***,a position update model,incorporating a spiral mechanism,is designed to improve the algorithm’s global exploration and convergence ***,a dynamic balancing factor,guided by fitness values,adjusts the search process to balance exploration and exploitation *** performance of SPPE is first validated on CEC2013 benchmark functions,where it demonstrates excellent convergence speed and superior optimization results compared to several state-of-the-art metaheuristic *** further verify its practical applicability,SPPE is combined with the K-means algorithm for data clustering and tested on seven *** results show that SPPE-K-means improves clustering accuracy,reduces dependency on initialization,and outperforms other clustering *** study highlights SPPE’s robustness and efficiency in solving both optimization and clustering challenges,making it a promising tool for complex data analysis tasks.

The need for a building with a green building concept is now very important for environmental conservation. The concept of green building is to design a building that has a more efficient consumption of electrical energy. The Energy Consumption Intensity (ECI) of a building in Indonesia with a tropical climate is regulated in SNI no 03-0196: 2010. In this standard, the ECI of an air-conditioned building is said to be efficient if it has a consumption of 7.93-12.08 kWh/M2/month. Meanwhile, according to the Indonesian Green Building Council (GBCI), the ECI in Green Building is 50% of a conventional building. In this study, electrical energy consumption was measured for at least 1 year. The research location is the Head Office Building of PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Persero), a State-Owned Enterprise located in Batubara Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia. According to the results of the analysis of existing data, it can be concluded that the Inalum Building has an efficient electricity consumption intensity according to SNI standards, with a value of 78.34 kWh/m2/year or 6.53 kWh/m2/month. However, as a green building, the existing air-conditioned space still has an ECI value that exceeds the specified standard. According to the SNI standard classification, this building is still considered energy-intensive because the ECI value of an air-conditioned room is 243.56 kWh/m2/year or 20.29 kWh/m2/month. The novelty that we get in this research is the actual Energy Consumption Intensity (ECI) indexes of this green building. © 2022 IEEE.

Swallowing assessment is a crucial task to reveal swallowing abnormalities. There are multiple modalities to analyze swallowing kinematics, such as videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS), which is the gold standard method, and high-resolution cervical auscultation (HRCA), which is a noninvasive technique that uses a triaxial accelerometer attached to the patient's neck. Deep learning models play an essential role in data driven analysis of swallowing landmarks using VFSS and/or HRCA as input data. Most of these models utilize convolutional and recurrent neural networks. Here, we investigate the ability of transformers to analyze swallowing kinematics;specifically upper esophageal sphincter opening and laryngeal vestibule closure using HRCA signals. We tested the model using an independent test dataset to assess the generalizability of the proposed network. The proposed network achieved an average detection accuracy higher than 90% and 85% for both segmentation tasks, which outperform the hybrid neural networks from the literature, and the model obtained high-performance measures for the independent dataset, showing the transformers' ability to generalize on unseen data. © 2024 IEEE.

The neuron doctrine defines the neuron as the basic unit of the nervous system, which drives the dynamic behavior of our organs. This has led to neurons becoming the focus of modern neuroscience research and to the rise of neurocomputing, in which we try to digitally simulate human behavior. The goal being to better understand the human nervous system and gain more control over neuron-related diseases, helping doctors establish faster and more reliable medical diagnoses. In this context, we aim to simulate eye diseases and vision problems by convolving input images using a new class of neural networks based on a variable structure model of neurons presented in [1]. In this work, we focus on recreating the common convolution filters as a first step. This is the first time in neurocomputing literature that dendritic neurons have been used for dynamic convolution kernels generation and eye diseases simulation. We start with a presentation of our upgrades to the model’s flexibility and accuracy. Then, we propose a novel kernel generator algorithm to convolve the input images. Finally, we show its promising results in creating the outline, pixelization, and night convolution kernels, as well as control some metrics, including brightness and data retention. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

A Comprehensive Technique Based on Machine Learning for Device and Circuit Modeling of Gate-All-Around Nanosheet Transistors

Machine learning (ML) is poised to play an important part in advancing the predicting capability in semiconductor device compact modeling domain. One major advantage of ML-based compact modeling is its ability to capture complex relationships and patterns in large datasets. Therefore, in this paper a novel design scheme based on dynamically adaptive neural network (DANN) is proposed to develop fast and accurate compact model (CM). This framework constitutes a powerful yet computationally efficient methodology and exhibits emergent dynamic behaviors. This paper demonstrates that the compact model based on ML can be designed to replicate the performance of conventional compact model for nanodevices. For this work, gate-all-around (GAA) nanosheet (NS) device characteristics are comprehensively analyzed for process variability sources using the proposed model. The device geometry parameters such as channel length, nanosheet width and nanosheet thickness are fed as input features to the DANN model. The adaptive neural network learns dynamically by updating weights of the model in accordance with the input features and achieves accurate neural weight convergence. The proposed model predicted the electrical characteristics of NS devices with less than 1% error rate. The model is also implemented and validated for the simulations of digital circuit designs such as inverter, and logic gates. ©;2023 The Authors.
