Homing of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) for tissue regeneration is known to be controlled by a homing factor, stromal cell-derived factor 1α (SDF-1α) gradient released from injury site. Binding of SDF-1α leads to MSC's extravasation and migration towards the infarcted tissue. In this study, a microfluidic device was designed to witness the homing process of MSC towards SDF-1α gradient. SDF-1 antagonist AMD3100 blocked the binding of SDF-1α to the MSC's receptor which led to loss of directional migration. On the other hand, Rock inhibitor, Y-27632 and Rac inhibitor, NSC23766 had no effects on directional migration but decreased MSC's migration distance.

Allografts have been used in a variety of applications to augment as well as replace tissues throughout the body. A number of steps are involved in selection, harvesting, processing and testing of dermal allografts. Grafts can be obtained that are: free of antibodies to viruses and low in viral titers. Cellular material can be eliminated from the tissue and the product becomes almost exclusively a collagen fiber network. The purpose of this paper is to examine the changes in collagen structure and properties that occur during processing of decellularized dermis. The results indicate that collagen fiber swelling occurs during processing although the product preserves the native collagen banding pattern at the fibrillar structural level. Fiber swelling and decreased collagen deformability of processed dermis, may lead to stress concentration at the implant-tissue interface and up-regulation of mechanotransduction. This may lead to premature mechanical failure due to creation of a chronic inflammatory condition at the implant-tissue interface. It is suggested that all dermal allografts be oriented such that Langer’s lines of the implant match those of the host tissue, and that wound closure by suturing be done under conditions that preserve the normal tension in skin in order to minimize implant-interfacial failure.

Hydrogen production from steam or autothermal alcohol reforming has been widely studied, but these methods require high temperatures and emit CO2. Here, we present a new strategy for the simultaneous room-temperature production of hydrogen and other chemicals without the emission of CO2, via the photo- electrochemical reforming of biomass-derived alcohols. The measured hydrogen quantum efficiencies reach around 80% across the entire visible solar spectrum from 450 to 850 nm, achieving an ultrahigh hydrogen production rate of 7.91 μmol/(min·cm^2) under AM 1.5G illumination.

Fiddler crabs are one of the types of fauna that inhabit the mangrove ecosystem. They have an essential role in nutrient improvements in the mangrove substrate, besides increasing oxygenation, decomposition and percolation rate, and decreasing salinity and the sulfide substrate condition. This study performed the identification of two species based on their molecular qualities through COI gene markers. The samples were collected from Surabaya, Indonesia and their genomic DNA was extracted through DNA kit extraction at the Molecular Physiology Laboratory PKNU, Busan Korea. Based on the molecular identification in BLASTN, the two species confirmed were Uca forcipata and Uca triangularis with 99% certainty. The species were classified as an Asian fiddler crab species based on the phylogenetic tree featuring 59 species of fiddler crab from around the world.
