In this paper a new algorithm for the learning of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy systems is introduced. In the algorithm different learning techniques are applied for the antecedent and the consequent parameters of the fuzzy system. We propose a hybrid method for the antecedent parameters learning based on the combination of the bacterial evolutionary algorithm (BEA) and the Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) method. For the linear parameters in fuzzy systems appearing in the rule consequents the least squares (LS) and the recursive least squares (RLS) techniques are applied, which will lead to a global optimal solution of linear parameter vectors in the least squares sense. Therefore a better performance can be guaranteed than with a complete learning by BEA and LM. The paper is concluded by evaluation results based on high-dimensional test data. These evaluation results compare the new method with some conventional fuzzy training methods with respect to approximation accuracy and model complexity.

Incremental Sheet Forming is an advanced manufacturing technology in the recent years. In a lot of cases the process requires the synchronized cooperation of two machines. The complex operation was modelled in a virtual environment, where the cyber objects were deeply connected with the real objects. The result of this virtual cooperation resulted some cognitive observation that is also published in this paper.

Achieving instantaneous and precise failure localization in all-optical wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks has been an attractive feature of network fault management systems, and is particularly important when failure-dependent protection is employed. The paper introduces a novel framework of real-time failure localization in all-optical WDM mesh networks, called monitoring-burst (m-burst), which aims to initiate a graceful compromise between consumed monitoring resources and monitoring delay. Different from any previously reported solution, the proposed m-burst framework has a single monitoring node (MN) which launches optical bursts along a set of pre-defined close-loop routes, called monitoring cycles (m-cycles), to probe the links along the m-cycles. Bursts along different m-cycles are kept non-overlapping through any link of the network. By identifying the lost bursts due to single link failure events only, the MN can unambiguously localize the failed link in at least 3-connected networks. We will justify the feasibility and applicability of the proposed m-burst framework in the scenario of interest. To avoid possible collision among optical bursts launched by the MN, we define the problem of collision-free scheduling and formulate it into an integer linear program (ILP) in order to minimize the monitoring delay. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework and the proposed solution.

Artificial neural networks and fuzzy logic systems, in the context of approximate reasoning, share common features and techniques. A family of fuzzy flip-flops is proposed, based on an artificial neural network-like structure which is suitable for approximating many-input one-output nonlinear functions. The neurons in the multilayer perceptron networks typically employ sigmoidal activation functions. The next state of the fuzzy J-K flip-flops (F{sup}3) using Yager and Dombi operators present quasi-S-shaped characteristics. The paper proposes the investigation of the possibility of constructing multilayer perceptrons from such fuzzy units. Each of the two candidates for F{sup}3-based neurons is examined for its training capability by evaluating and comparing the approximation properties in the context of different transcendental functions with one-input and multi-input cases. Simulation results are presented.

This paper gives contribution to the construction of an image mosaic by pasting together a sequence of photographs taken by a regular digital camera from the same position but in different directions. In order to find the best match between two overlapping images, a fuzzy-genetic based algorithm is presented. A translation vector with a minimal difference between the common picture parts has to be found. The difference is defined using the fuzzyfied contours of each images. The search of the optimal translation is considered as a minimization process. This paper proposes a method that uses genetic algorithms to find the minimum point corresponding to the optimal translation. Using the fuzzy based comparison of the two images yields a fast fitness function, while the implementation of the proposed method in a genetic hardware has a low and variable computational cost. The precision of the method is inverse-proportional with the computational time, which makes it ideal to be used in real time systems.

An extension of the pairwise comparison matrix is considered when some comparisons are missing. A generalization of the eigenvector method for the incomplete case is introduced and discussed as well as the Logarithmic Least Squares Method. The uniqueness problem regarding both weighting methods is studied through the graph representation of pairwise comparison matrices. It is shown that the optimal completion/solution is unique if and only if the graph associated with the incomplete pairwise comparison matrix is connected. An algorithm is proposed for solving the eigenvalue minimization problem related to the generalization of the eigenvector method in the incomplete case. Numerical examples are presented for illustration of the methods discussed in the paper.

This paper suggests a new pattern of human knowledge. Its execution represents an important stage in the general framework of aiming the building of an artificial cognitive system. First the general presentation of the artificial cognitive system, its objective, main principles and implementation phases are highlighted. The known patterns, which have a cultural (philosophical, psychological and linguistic) origin are then analyzed. Finally the details concerning the proposed pattern are pointed out.

This paper presents a patient specific deformable heart model that involves the known electric and mechanic properties of the cardiac cells and tissue. The accuracy and efficiency of the algorithm was tested for anisotropic and inhomogeneous 3D domains using ten Tusscher's and Nygen's cardiac cell models. During propagation of depolarization wave, the kinetic, compositional and rotational anisotropy is included in the tissue, organ and torso model. The applied patient specific parameters were determined by an evolutionary computation method. An intensive parameter reduction was performed using the abstract formulation of the searching space. This patient specific parameter representation enables the adjustment of deformable model parameters in real-time. The validation process was performed using measured ECG and ultrasound image records that were compared with simulated signals and shapes using an abstract, parameterized evaluation criterion.

The objective of the discrete-time modeling tools is twofold. First, they give an insight into the basic ideas of discrete-time modeling of dc-dc converters for university students and interested power electronics specialists. Second, as it is being presented below, the interactive calculation tools facilitate the fast and simple model development in WEB browser after entering the basic circuit and load parameters. This feature can especially be useful for the practicing design engineers, since without long calculations with matrix functions the linearized discrete-time system model is immediately and automatically developed in both mathematical form (state-space equations and transfer functions in the Z domain) and also in graphical form (pole-zero map and bode plot).

A solution developed for power quality conditioning (PQC) applied in distributed generation system is presented. The method is exploiting the capabilities of the DC/AC converter of a system that has been developed to generate electric power by utilizing alternative, renewable and waste energies. The power quality conditioning is based on the application of space vector theory, using an algorithm easy to implement. The paper describes a control structure that is capable of both power factor correction and elimination of negative sequence components in the mains current. The theoretical analysis is confirmed by computer simulation results
