The objective of the discrete-time modeling tools is twofold. First, they give an insight into the basic ideas of discrete-time modeling of dc-dc converters for university students and interested power electronics specialists. Second, as it is being presented below, the interactive calculation tools facilitate the fast and simple model development in WEB browser after entering the basic circuit and load parameters. This feature can especially be useful for the practicing design engineers, since without long calculations with matrix functions the linearized discrete-time system model is immediately and automatically developed in both mathematical form (state-space equations and transfer functions in the Z domain) and also in graphical form (pole-zero map and bode plot).

Since the throughput of the newer wireless networks approaches the general bandwidth of the wired environment thus the number of services, which need higher bandwidth, has increased. Each service has different QoS parameters, throughput preferences and charges. However, various wireless systems (e.g. GSM, UMTS, WLAN, WiMAX) provide different QoS parameters. Therefore we have to choose the suitable radio interface to prove the best quality of a given service. In this paper we introduce our novel network selection model which is based on the AHP and GRA methodology. Considering the user profiles and the available networks' QoS parameters, for a given service the best radio interface can be determined automatically without any user interaction. In a realistic network environment we took some analytical measurements in order to analyze our network selection algorithm. These measurements verify that the algorithm works fine in a realistic network environment.

Recently it has been shown that in image processing, the usual sum and product of the reals are not the only operations that can be used. Several other operations provided by fuzzy logic perform well in this application. We continue this line of research and we propose the use of a pair consisting of a uninorm and an absorbing norm determined by a continuous, strictly increasing generator instead of the classical sum and multiplication. In the present paper the discrete cosine transform (DCT)-based image compression method is generalized by using a pair consisting of a uninorm and an absorbing norm. We show that the results of the proposed method outperform in several cases the classical DCT image compression algorithm.

A solution developed for power quality conditioning (PQC) applied in distributed generation system is presented. The method is exploiting the capabilities of the DC/AC converter of a system that has been developed to generate electric power by utilizing alternative, renewable and waste energies. The power quality conditioning is based on the application of space vector theory, using an algorithm easy to implement. The paper describes a control structure that is capable of both power factor correction and elimination of negative sequence components in the mains current. The theoretical analysis is confirmed by computer simulation results

Precise control of Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs) navigating between the aisles of manufacturing systems by the use of local markers is an important task. On the basis of the geometric model of the workspace and the vehicles and that of the sensor uncertainties precise trajectories were recently generated along which the vehicle safely can move. In order to achieve precise trajectory tracking the effects of the system's dynamical uncertainties (modeling errors and possible external perturbations) have to be compensated. In the present paper a simple, fixed point transformations based adaptive control is proposed for this purpose. The proposed method is tested via simulation for a vehicle of triangular shape, driven by three omnidirectional wheels. The method is also able to monitor and evade the conditions that may lead to turning over the vehicle.

Technological and computing evolution promoted new opportunities to improve the quality of life, in particular, the quality of diagnostic evaluations. Computerized tomography is one of the imaging equipments of diagnosis which has most benefited from technological improvements. Because of that, and due to the quality of the diagnosis produced, it is one of the most employed equipments in clinical applications. The ischaemic cerebral vascular accident (ICVA) is the pathology that confirms the frequent use of the computerized tomography. The interest for this pathology, and in general for the encephalon image analysis as a preventive diagnosis, is mainly due to the frequent occurrence of ICV As in development countries and its social-economic impact. In this sense, we propose to evaluate the ability of artificial neural networks (ANN) for automatic identification of ICVA by means of tissue density images obtained by computerised tomography. This work employed cranioencephalon computerised tomography exams and their respective medical reports, to train ANNs classifiers. Features extracted from the images were used as inputs to the classifiers. Once the ANNs were trained, the neural classifiers were tested with data never seen by the network. At this stage we may conclude that the ANNs may significantly contribute as an ICV As computerised tomography diagnostic aid, since among the test cases the automatic identification of ischaemic lesions has been performed with no false negatives e very few false positives.

Traffic measurements in broadband access networks are crucial from several points of view. A better understanding of traffic patterns can lead to more efficient network design, which leads to energy and cost savings for the operator and improved end user services. This paper reports on selected traffic measurement results from the Celtic TRAMMS project. The measurements were performed in broadband access networks in Sweden and Spain. The vast majority of the traffic volume is video based and from peer-to-peer applications. This suggests that future access networks should be symmetrical in order to properly cope with the traffic patterns of the future. Geographic locality of end-to-end flows has been identified for incoming and outgoing traffic in Spain, which may be used to analyze peering between ISP's. Finally, we show that stricter legislation in Sweden targeting illegal file sharing led to a dramatic decrease of the traffic. This means that factors not controlled by the networking community may seriously impact traffic patterns and user behaviour thereby indicating the need for closer collaboration between researchers and network designers on one side and politicians and regulators on the other side.

The main problem of the wind power is its stochastic availability. The pulsation of the wind speed causes power pulsation, resulting in deterioration of the power quality. To compensate it, energy storage is necessary. Considering the wind spectrum, different storage systems can be used for the different frequencies of the wind speed variation. The short time turbulent power pulsation can be balanced by flywheel energy storage drive. This paper deals with this method. After the theoretical considerations of the system the possible power circuits and control methods are discussed. The operation of the system is investigated by simulations, using acceptable simplifications. The results help to design the overall system and its elements.

For extensive utilization of distributed generation with the objectives of more efficient use of energy and introduction of renewable energy sources, the construction of a micro grid at demand end is inevitable. The micro grid should operate independently and have a good neighbor relation with the power grid, which supplies base power to it. A coordinate control scheme of distributed generations is studied. It has three layers of structure. The integrated control system is quite similar to that of power system other than its scale. Because of the limited number of generations and customers, the variation of power unbalance between supply and demand is fast and large. To stabilize the system and maintain power supply quality, the micro grid is subdivided into local distribution network groups. The local group control system regulates generations inside it in coordination with other groups and transmits operational information in it to the integrated control system. Each controllable generation has its own control system and regulates its output with the command from the local group control system. The distributed generation on the market, including the battery energy storage, is generally connected to the network through the power converter system. Because it can not autonomously follow the power variation, a novel control scheme should be incorporated into the control system of power converter system and the local level control. Their performances in operation of a micro grid are verified with simulations using EMTDC/PSCAD. The coordination between local group control systems for the load following control is under test in a model grid for experiment. A demonstration system is planned to construct on this control scheme
