Many pulse oximeter types are available on the market but development of reflective pulse oximeters is still required by health care players. An approach to determine optimal conditions of such measurements by means of objective methods and a pilot experiment is described in this paper. The optimal distance between the light sources and the detector and the optimal force to press a reflective pulse oximeter sensor head onto the skin are characterisable by the presented method and experimental setup. The preferable values are probably between 0.5-2 g/mm 2 but the distance between the light sources and the detector shifts this value and changes the length of stabile region of performance as well, however, observed phenomena indicate, that pressure value alone is not enough to normalize results and compare pulse oximetry measuring heads having significant difference in size

Computer-aided diagnostics has a growing importance in many medical applications, such as mammography. The main goal of computer-aided tumour-detection is to help radiologists by selecting only the suspected abnormal cases. Identifying abnormal tissues in a mammogram is a great challenge, where conventional image processing methods usually fail. Therefore special methods are needed, which combine the advantages of already known and newly developed image processing algorithms. In this work the possibilities of lesion detection are examined by first extracting the lesion from the background, then characterizing it on the basis of its shape. The achieved results are presented, respectively.

Software quality is always the target of disagreement between developers and users because of its subjective nature. The problem with software quality is the lack of formal definitions. Furthermore, quality metrics are based on empirical indices. This paper presents a method to the application of formal modeling techniques in the subject of software quality verification. We give a high-level view of the approach, leaving the deep details for a later discussion. We also provide a short summary of Software Quality models and standards.

As social networking services are getting more and more common, the need for privacy enhancing options, sophisticated identity management and anonymity emerges. In this paper the authors propose using role-based privacy as a response for these needs and introduce a novel model called nexus-identity network that is capable of describing services extended with such functionality. The concerned principles of role-based privacy are conferred in the paper and criteria are presented for anonymity. Conforming to the criteria the authors suggest storing the profiles of different identities in a tree hierarchy in a user-friendly manner. The analysis of anonymity shows that the network has a structure that can be easily interpreted similarly to graphs representing connections in regular social networks. The ease of profile management and network visualization are advantages of the nexus-identity model which can make a social networking service privacy and user-friendly as well.

Distance learning (DL) is an instructional delivery system that connects learners with educational resources. In microelectronics and microsystems interconnection and packaging technology, the preparation of electronics engineers for the ever growing requirements is especially a challenge for today's education, and there is an essential need for the application of advanced curricula and teaching methods. In the present paper, the driving forces for the development of curricula and didactic methods are outlined, followed by the detailed discussion of the needs for and the applicability of distance learning. Then, an example is provided for the application of the Internet-based performance centered instructions (IPCI) model for providing Web-based DL experiments in the special field of surface mounting technology (SMT) for students of electrical engineering and graduate engineers interested in microelectronics packaging and interconnection technology. Finally conclusions are drawn and further efforts are outlined.

This paper describes the construction of a high frequency E-field probe produced using polymer thick film technology. The probe is the key element of a complex measurement system which examines the absorbed power caused by the electromagnetic field of cellular phone equipment. The measurement system meets the requirements of the CENELEC recommendations in this area. The probe measures magnitude of the high frequency E-field (in the range of GSM characteristic frequencies, 900/1800 MHz), converts it into a DC voltage, and transmits this voltage towards the next element of the measurement system. This paper shows the planning details of the probe, focusing on the fixing of electric parameters.

Routing, TE & Resilience are gaining on their importance in heterogeneous networks. For testing network design and configuration tools, as well as for simulating routing algorithms and protocols in a realistic multi-domain reference environment a common reference network is necessary to estimate and compare the known and novel methods. Until now there have been three to five well known single domain reference networks. The most widely used one is the NSFnet the North-American academic network. The other two often used reference networks are the European COST 239 and the LION/COST 266 fictive Pan-European reference networks. Two national networks are also often used the Italian and the German one. However, all these networks consist of a single domain only. To our knowledge there is no reference network so far capable of taking into account the multi-domain and multi-provider character of modern networks. The aim of this paper is to fill this gap. We propose a non-hierarchical reference network (el-net-nh) and a hierarchical one (el-net-h) and compare them from the point of view of blocking ratio and path length distribution for two cases, namely, with no protection at all and with dedicated protection

The recent development In telecom has been the drive towards the integration of computing and phone and data communication. With the constant and fast development of technology the phone companies are trying to get a major share in television and advanced video services as well. At the same time cable services are moving towards phone and data services. The new goal is to provide the "triple play": voice, data and television. The main issues are discussed based on personal view of technological and other problems involved.
