The application of voltage response measurement is a very effective tool to determine of the aging state of oil-paper insulated cables. The initial slope of the decay voltage is directly proportional to the conductivity of the insulation and the initial slope of the return voltage is proportional to the intensity of polarization processes. Therefore, the two main deterioration processes (moistening and thermal aging) of oil-paper insulation can be examined independently. In this paper, the application of voltage response method is examined on laboratory aged low voltage polymeric (PVC and PE) insulated cables and the results were compared to the results of chemical and breakdown tests. By the using of voltage response method the aging state of the insulation i.e. the probable decrease of dielectric strength can be detected.

The paper presents some recent trends in TIM material development, and outlines the state of the art in testing interface thermal resistance values. After presenting the trends in TIM material development first the available experimental techniques are presented shortly, and then the currently available industrial methods are discussed with more details. The paper finally presents some promising developments in finding better resolution high throughput methods to solve the challenging problem of measuring very small thermal resistance values in electronics applications.

A new control method was proposed by Hunyar et al. (1994) for PWM IGBT AC chopper. The discussed application field was the energy-saving control of an induction motor. Some new fields have been found since that time: compensation of unbalanced voltage supply; filtering the upper harmonics; series compensation; and excitation of brushless motor. The emphasis is on the first two points. In this paper, different methods are developed for these purposes. These are simulated, examined and presented in more detail in the paper. The best one is selected, implemented and tested.

This paper is about the suppression of the relative intensity noise (RIN) peak and phase noise of a diode pumped neodymium-doped lithium niobate (Nd:LiNbO/sub 3/) microchip laser. Relaxation oscillations result in about 15-20 dB noise peak above the flat noise at 350 kHz offset frequency. In case of high quality requirements this noise peak is significantly disturbing. In this paper a new approach is presented for the suppression of the RIN peak and phase noise in microchip lasers.

An analytical description combined with finite element calculations of the current displacement caused by short-circuit current impulses in one- and two dimensional conductor models is presented. It is shown that in many cases the Joule-integral used in the technical practice gives a false representation of the thermal stress in the conductors and contacts. A simplified method is given for determining the degree of current displacement caused by different current impulses, hence the non-uniformity of the losses and the heating within the conductors.

This paper deals with the scheduling problem of flexible manufacturing systems (FMS). The new contribution of the present paper is applying a brute force method (BFM) and joinable schedule approach (JSA) to FMS scheduling problems for multi-machine, multi-job flow shop systems (FSS). the purpose is to realize the minimum of maximum production time (makespan) close to global minimum in order to obtain optimal lot streaming (LS) thus improving system utilization. Independent sequence setup time is considered. A comparison study is performed. Numerical example is given. New results are presented and a general mathematical model of optimal LS for FMS scheduling problems of FSS is developed.

In this paper, the temporal coherence function of a frequency-doubled multimode Nd:YAG laser (532 nm, 50 mW) has been investigated by measuring the diffraction efficiency of the polarization holographic gratings written by the laser in photoanisotropic polymer. The power spectrum of the laser-beam has also been measured by a grating spectrometer. From the measured spectrum the coherence function has been calculated. At the Fourier transformation measured spectrum has been approximated by a linear combination of three /spl delta/-function with different amplitudes.

In order to be able to use these systems effectively even if the lighting conditions are not ideal, e.g. dark objects, very bright areas in the scene, etc., multiple exposure based image reproduction algorithms are highly welcome. The main aim of the paper is to introduce a novel method enabling to merge multiple exposure images and obtain a corresponding High Dynamic Range Image.
