In this paper we would like to introduce our experimental results on the patterning of the thin film porous alumina sensing layer. We used three different approaches for the patterning of the alumina we would like to use in integrated humidity sensors in the future. The first was the wet etching of the completed alumina covering the entire wafer surface with conventional photolithography. The second method was based on selective anodization using photoresist as barrier layer to prevent the formation of alumina from aluminum where it is not necessary. In the third case we used a chemically resistant and conductive layer below the pre-patterned Al ldquoislandsrdquo for proper electrical connection needed during anodization. The results of the different methods were compared and optimal parameters were given where it was possible.

Weather radars are used for short term meteorological prediction all over the world. Radars in 5 GHz band can be jammed by RLAN devices (e.g. Wi-Fi routers). We introduce the background of this problem, and analyze the weakness of the current solution (DFS - dynamic frequency selection). We propose some other solutions, and introduce our channel allocation technique. We analyze it theoretically by modeling the radar operation and RLAN traffic, and we also show its high efficiency in practice, based on well-known IEEE 802.11 RTS/CTS mechanism.

In this paper a new solution of a home monitoring system is presented. Home monitoring makes possible for the patient to measure different physical parameters at home, and for the physician to check the results anywhere without personal meeting. Contrary to conventional home monitoring systems, the realized system uses distributed data storage of patients' data, instead of using a remote server to store all the data. A fully functional home monitoring system has been realized, that contains a microcontroller based Web server to store patient data. This unit collects data via Bluetooth from a small size wearable electrocardiograph (ECG) device designed and constructed by the authors. The size of the realized Web server is 9middot11middot3 cm - wmiddotlmiddoth, and the power consumption is only 2 W. The stored data can be accessed via internet. The remote client runs a Java application stored on the microcontroller based Web server. The physician uses this Java application to access and view patients' data in a remote location and to form a diagnosis.

More and more reliability and quality problems of electrical assemblies have to be solved due to the trend of miniaturization and the even higher level of integration. In some cases these failures can lead to catastrophic failure. The phenomenon of electrochemical migration is one of the most dangerous failure mechanism which usually results in short resistive circuits. In this paper electrochemical migration (ECM) failure phenomena is be investigated which was real-time monitored by the measurements of electrical parameters of conductor patterns with immersion Ag and immersion Ag finish coated with Sn60Pb on Printed Wiring Boards (PWB.) Highly Accelerated Stress Test (HAST) and Thermal Humidity Bias (THB) tests were carried out and Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) comparison was investigated between immersion Ag and immersion Ag coated with *** preliminary investigations were presented in order to determine the steps of the full ECM process on different substrates, surface finishes, solder alloys under various climatic conditions. The key findings were that the MTTFs during HAST tests were significantly shorter than in case of THB tests.

In our project the final purpose is to develop a cost-effective roll-to-roll technology of fabricating large-surface, high-output OLED (organic light emitting diode) devices for intelligent lighting applications. The electrical and optical characteristics of multi-layered OLEDs depend on the thickness of the layers. To reach the highest efficiency in an application is needed to optimize the each layers. In this paper we have measured the I-V characteristics of the different LEP (light emitting polymer) thickness white OLEDs. We have examined in 50degC wide temperature range. We have created an electro-thermal model, which describe the temperature and LEP thickness dependence of the forward bias. The results work as the feedback for the fabrication process and the OLED planning to our project partner.

The aim of the project, described in this paper, is to retrofit a Zeiss length measuring machine for the calibration of linear scales, with a pitch distance of a few micrometers. The retrofitting consists of optics, equipped with a CCD camera, for capturing the line sizes and distances, an appropriate illumination system, a motion system carrying the scale and providing linear motion at constant speed. The paper starts with discussing the various definitions of the pitch distance. From these definitions simple algorithms, to determine the pitch distance, are derived. The main point is to minimize the effect of non-linearity and diffraction, by using appropriate optics and illumination, hereby improving measurement accuracy. The carriage carrying the scale is driven by ultrasonic piezomotor providing nanometer resolution. The displacement is measured by an HP laser interferometer. For higher resolution the CCD camera system can be replaced by a near field microscope.

This paper provides the reader a discussion and analysis of token bucket call gapping mechanism at signalling level. A continuous time discrete state space Markov chain model is constructed and formulas are provided to determine the throughput of the bucket given certain input traffic conditions. The findings in this paper give the opportunity to design efficient algorithms to set the parameters of the token bucket so that it meets certain requirements such as maximal throughput, priority handling. Example algorithms are proposed and analyzed regarding implementation and feasibility issues.

The control and limitation of the energy demand is crucial nowadays. The traditional ripple control system can switch only the robust heating equipments. A local intelligence must be developed for the voluntary and tough rescheduling of the Autonomous Flexible Intelligent Load, as the washing machine, drier, refrigerator, etc. The ZigBee technology is an easy use, cheap wireless solution. In the laboratory of budapest Tech we built a test system for the realisation of different household appliance control strategies.

Both military and civil life requires the automation of certain sensing and measuring activities and tasks. These measuring activities are such tasks whose execution is too complex, too time-consuming or too dangerous for humans. In civil life the intelligent sensor network technology is used for controlling the heating and electrical networks of buildings, and the management of production processes or production phases at a plant, while in the military sector they are used for military intelligence tasks in operation areas or within buildings. The various usages of such systems set up distinctive requirements against the structure and building blocks of such networks as well as against the connections realizing the network. The devices must sense and measure the different environmental and other features, the short-time storage of the measured data and their forwarding to the data-analyzing system. One of the fundamental application questions is which features can be sensed and measured by a device; furthermore, how accurately and fast these sensor networks can execute the tasks. Due to security and encryption reasons, primarily in military use, further significant questions are the communication protocols, like the energy support. In case of military intelligence tasks, the method of placement and location, as well as the related location of the devices are of special importance. As the first step in the research, by the review of the literature this paper intends to give answers to the raised questions by analysing the features of the devices available on the market, and introducing the most important existing systems.

In this document we propose a new handover management solution which can be used to provide ubiquitous connections and seamless Internet access. The new solution is based on GPS position information and previous records of network parameters and exploits the benefits of multihomed mobility configurations. Based on actual GPS coordinates and previously recorded data, the system is able to predict handovers and to prepare itself for the appearance of networks. With the proposed solution, handover latency could almost be totally eliminated in multihomed networking environments.
