The need for self-managing multihop MANETs (mobile ad hoc networks) arose recently, where the network rapidly adapts to the changes of the environment without any central control. One of the challenges is how to spread the information fast and resource-effectively in the network. This paper presents a novel adaptive framework, which utilizes natural selection for choosing the adequate message forwarding algorithms for changing environments. The survival of the competing algorithms depends on their efficiency, while the fitness evaluation is made locally without overhead generating performance feedback. Performance evaluations were carried out in our simulation platform tailored to a self-managing MANET environment, to analyze the performance measures of different message forwarding algorithms.

This paper describes a hardware and a method for motion programming robots having six or more legs. The hardware consists of 3 low-cost capacitive accelerometers placed on the human body. Each accelerometer can measure 3 perpendicular axis. Each sensor has a microcontroller connected to it, this way the generated signal can be post-processed, avoiding a few noise sources. The controlled robot has six legs, each leg has 3 degrees of freedom. The whole robot has eighteen degrees of freedom. Because of this the motion control is a very difficult task and there are situations that can't be solved with algorithms. That is why we used human motion for controlling the robot. The method can be used even when the robot is far from the user, because the movements are animated using 3D stereoscopic visualization.

At the Department of Electronics technology high amount of failure analysis inspections have been carried out during the last five years, thus an outstanding number of results and reports have been accumulated by the Failure Analysis Group. The results and experiences gained in the past by these analyses can provide useful information in the present and future in further cases which show similarities to former problems. Such knowledge can only be exploited if the analysis results are organized in a suitable structure and the researchers do not have to rely on their own memory. A suitable system should handle queries based on various approaches i.e. type of failure, involved component, during which process the failure occurred, applied analysis method, etc. So the analysis result storage system has to provide a possibility to find any earlier analysis result which can be in connection with current cases to provide us the previously gained experiences and conclusions. In case a lecturer wants to illustrate a presentation with images of a certain failure type or of a given analysis method then the time needed to find the right pictures can be significantly reduced by the help of the analysis database.

The impact of PWM technique on the operation of ultrahigh speed induction machines (USIM) applied to generate electric power by utilizing renewable energy resources has been studied. The analysis was focused on the subharmonics of PWM wave generating high losses in USIM. The novel contribution is the description of a new special approach for the determination of subharmonics, the presentation of its results and their comparison to the theory known from literature and to the results obtained by computer simulations and laboratory tests. Both qualitative and quantitative serious discrepancies between the results of the new special approach verified by simulation and tests on the one hand and the familiar theoretical results are accentuated.

The paper is concerned with the study of a nonlinear speed control loop of an ultrahighspeed turbine-generator set applied in waste and renewable energy recovery system. The target of the study is to compare two speed control configurations and to select one configuration and its optimum control parameters on the basis of a series of systematic simulation investigations. Large signal transient responses had to be investigated beside the small signal analysis due to the strong nonlinearity of the induction generator.

One of the most important issues in a wireless sensor network is energy efficiency, in order to extend the lifetime of the network. An effective strategy is to turn off the redundant sensor nodes in the network to spare energy. In this paper, we propose and analyze an adaptive regression algorithm for dynamic environments that can continuously monitor two arbitrary sensors in a sensor field and decide on whether they can be mutually described by non isotonic linear relation, within a user specified error bound, or not. This is done without the need of offline pre-computations, dedicated phases, or base station assistance; thus, it can be utilized in fully distributed manner. The algorithm can dynamically eliminate the redundancy and estimate the deficient data based on the learned relations in a way to ensure that the sensors' energy consumption is near minimal and balanced. We compare our technique with deterministic clustering methods, provide a parameter sensitivity analysis and discuss the simulation results.

Dissolved gas Analysis (DGA) is a widely used technique to estimate the condition of oil-immersed transformers. The measurement of the level and the change of combustible gases in the insulating oil is a trustworthy diagnostic tool which can be used as indicator of undesirable events occurring inside the transformer, such as hot spots, electrical arcing or partial discharge. The objective of this paper is mainly to analyze available data from DGA, and investigate data that may be useful in quantitative modeling of the transformer's reliability. There are standards available for this purpose the DGA interpretation should also be based on other information about the reliable particular transformer. This paper describes a realistic method for power transformers using readily available data. The method considers practical limitations on obtaining data and possible constraints on the parameters utilize IEC, IEEE, and OGRE criteria. The calculation considers not only typical test results but also other parameters such as physical observations, tap changer and bushing condition, load history, maintenance work orders, age, trends of the transformer failures etc. The calculation includes condition ratings, weighting factors, and assigned scores for specific condition parameters by using fuzzy logic. A neural network using the DGA results is applied to achieve the initial conclusion firstly. Then, several fuzzy equations are established to realize the detailed diagnosis. As many sorts of data and relevant DGA information are selected in different fuzzy equations, which result in the accuracy of the detailed diagnosis being higher.

Model-driven approaches try to improve the productivity of the traditional software development by focusing on a special problem using high abstraction models. Comparing to the source code, specific visualization of models inspired by these domains is very advantageous and closer to the human thinking. Though, in many cases the details can be efficiently edited only in textual form: visual models are sometimes not expressive or effective enough, and could be circumstantial to use. The common problem of typical modeling tools is that they provide support for only one kind of model representation, but it would be more effective if two or more representation possibilities could be mixed. In this paper, we suggest an approach, which supports the concurrent evolution of the artifacts in both textual and visual way. The declarative textual syntax mapping is defined in a way to facilitate bi-directional conversion. To synchronize, and merge the changes of the different kinds of artifacts incrementally, a three-way comparison is applied.

Interconnect technology is becoming increasingly more complex due to miniaturization of surface mount devices. These trends in electronics industry have led to the demand for new, highly controllable selective soldering technologies. Laser soldering methods can be an adequate answer for the mentioned demands. Optimization of laser soldering process is extremely important especially when there are more than 100degC difference between the temperature limit of the substrate and the melting point of the solder eg. PMMA substrate (T g ~105degC) and SnAgCu solder (MP=217degC). Temperature distribution of the laser soldered structure can be simulated by our model which also considers reflection, absorption and transmission as well as the Gaussian energy distribution of the beam, beyond the thermal properties of the sample. Simulations and experiments were carried out at frequency trippled Nd:YAG laser wavelength (355 nm) by direct heating of the flip-chip. Soldering process parameters (pulse energy, average power, soldering time, beam intensity) were optimized based on both the simulation and experimental results. The solder joints were qualified by resistance measurements, X-ray micrographs, micro-sections and shear tests.

In quantum cryptography the encoded pure quantum states are sent through a quantum communication channel. An eavesdropper can not measure the sent qubit, since the result of the measurement is one of the single quantum system's eigenstates. The best eavesdropping attacks for quantum cryptography use the cloning machines. In this paper, we show an effective method to compute the fidelity of quantum cloning based attacks in quantum cryptography, using Delaunay tessellation. We extend our method to study the fidelity of optimal cloning of mixed states in quantum cryptography.
