In the recent years, software modeling became an essential part of designing large software systems. However, efficient model processing techniques are required, unless we use models only for documentation purposes. One way to improve efficiency is to apply model transformations in parallel. This paper introduces a truly parallel model transformation framework focusing on a new pattern matching approach. By using this new approach, the framework is now scalable and much more efficient than any parallel model transformation approach before.

Nowadays in embedded system design it is essential to use Hardware/Software (HW/SW) co-design. This paper is about the development of an autonomic mobile navigation with HW/SW co-design. We managed to design such a system that won the first prize at one of the greatest Mars rover competitions in Hungary. The paper demonstrates how to keep the project costs and system design process time low with this methodology. The hardware-software partitioning is discussed in details. This paper is going to deal with the possible and already used technologies in details by emphasizing their advantages.

The Broadband Fixed Wireless Access (BFWA) networks are terrestrial systems operating at high carrier frequencies (above 20 GHz), therefore one of the most harmful circumstantial factors in these systems is the attenuation caused by precipitation, especially by rain. Employing site diversity is a well-known method to improve the signal to interference plus noise ratio conditions within the BFWA network. The backbone of a BFWA can be wired or wireless terrestrial, however the connection between base stations and the operator's core network can be also established by high frequency satellite links. Applying a satellite backbone system and route diversity between the Earth-space links can compensate precipitation attenuation. In this paper the efficiency of the diversity scheme in a satellite backbone network for BFWA system will be presented.

The question of safety is becoming more and more crucial since the direct hazard which is the robot itself can not be fully isolated in view of the new tendency in robotics. In this paper an extended approach for the risk assessment and reduction is presented which is based on the fuzzy theory application integrating human factor and work conditions ergonomic analysis. The concept is adapted for the human robot interaction domain and extends the standardized risk assessment techniques used in the manufacturing and conventional robotics. This approach is intended to help designers adequately estimate a task related actual work conditions, identify a risk level and authorize personnel for a collaboration process according to task, safety requirements and interaction level specific.

This paper describes a dynamic artificial neural network based mobile robot motion and path planning system. The method is able to navigate a robot car on flat surface among static and moving obstacles, from any starting point to any endpoint. The motion controlling ANN is trained online with an extended backpropagation through time algorithm, which uses potential fields for obstacle avoidance. The paths of the moving obstacles are predicted with other ANNs for better obstacle avoidance. The method is presented through the realization of the navigation system of a mobile robot.

When building document categorization in distributed mobile environments, feature selection methods need to be employed to have a compact representation for each document topic and to reduce noise during classification. When interaction occurs between the nodes, locally retrieved features representing the document topic and their attributes have to be shared to have a more accurate estimation of the global classifier at every node. The network traffic should be kept at a minimum to reduce costs. We propose a probabilistic model for a keyword selection method, which makes a more thorough analysis possible and can be considered as a basis when sharing information. It can be used for building up the local document topic representations incrementally ensuring minimal network traffic. The description of the probabilistic model is complemented by experimental results.

Recently there is a growing interest in providing and improving radio coverage for mobile phones and WLANs inside buildings. The need of such coverage appears mainly in office buildings, shopping malls, train stations where the subscriber density is very high. The cost of cellular systems and also the one of indoor wireless systems depend highly on the number of base stations required to achieve the desired coverage for a given level of field strength. This paper presents an approach in optimizing the indoor radio coverage using multiple access points for indoor environments. The genetic algorithm (GA) and simulated annealing (SA) are used to determine the optimal access point positions to achieve optimum coverage. Next a hierarchic optimization method is introduced and finally comparisons are made for the methods suggested.

In clinical laboratory work, blood samples are the most common body material used in daily diagnostic tasks. Donated blood needs to be screened for blood-borne diseases before it can be used. This procedure currently takes about twelve hours of laboratory work, and that is acceptable in the case of blood donations. However, the same verification needs to be done in the case of organ transplantations where a 12-hour wait is way too long. Utilizing the currently most sensitive label-free biosensor technology-surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-with a CCD imaging approach allows the construction of a device capable of fast and sensitive detection of blood-borne pathogens. In this paper, a prototype of such an SPR imaging device is presented. Some of the considerations that allow reaching the needed sensitivity and the prototype measurement results are described as well. The completed system was tested with two materials of different optical density, PBS (phosphate buffered saline) and water, at 20degC and 40degC (near-room and near-body temperatures).
