This Model-Driven Development (MDD) facilitates the synthesis of application programs from models created using customized, domain-specific model processors. Model compilers can be realized by graph rewriting-based model transformation. In Visual Modeling and Transformation System (VMTS), metamodel-based rewriting rules facilitate to assign OCL constraints to model transformation rules. This approach supports validated model transformation. Unfortunately, the validation introduces a new concern that often crosscuts the functional concern of the transformation rules. To separate these concerns, an aspect-oriented solution is applied for constraint management. This paper introduces the identification method of the crosscutting constraints in metamodel-based model transformation rules. The presented algorithms facilitate the better understanding of the transformation, their easier constraint-based configuration, and make both the constraints and the rewriting rules reusable.

This paper investigates a VoD distribution architecture that exploits the increasing uplink and local storage capacities of customer equipment in a peer-to-peer (P2P) manner in order to offload the central video servers and the core network segment. We investigate an environment where (i) the peers' upload speeds vary in time and (ii) on the subscriber's downlink a strict bandwidth limit constrains the VoD delivery, and where (iii) this downlink limit is not significantly higher than the video's own bit rate while (iv) the subscribers' upload capacities are not cut down. In such an environment providing quality for a true VoD service requires carefully selected mechanisms. We show how the components (storage policy, uplink speed management) of a P2P-VoD system should be changed to be feasible under these conditions. The main component of the system determines the minimal required server speed as a function of the prebuffered content, the uploaders' behaviours, and the given play back fault probability. Additionally, by using simulation we investigate the optimal downlink bandwidth limit for a subscriber population with different average upload speeds.

We have designed and implemented a platform independent computer-based digital oscilloscope using a high performance 32-bit RISC microcontroller. The oscilloscope program makes use of very low software and hardware cost, and uses recursive formulas (e.g. recursive averaging, variance) in a platform independent object oriented environment with stable and deterministic computing time. This means that, if evaluated on-line, confidence limits can also be displayed. It can be seen from the measurements that the recursive formulas accomplish the required sample number independent output.

The never unseen information explosion in data transmission and communication called for new methods in signal coding and reconstruction. To minimize the channel capacity needed for the transmission urged researchers to find techniques which are flexible and can adapt to the available space and time. Anytime techniques are good candidates for such purposes. If the signal/data to be transmitted can be characterized as sequence of stationary intervals overcomplete signal representations can be applied. These techniques can be operated in an anytime manner as well, i.e. are excellent tools for handling the capacity problems. This paper introduces the concept of anytime recursive overcomplete signal representations using different recursive signal processing algorithms. The novelty of the approach is that an on-going set of signal transformations together with appropriate (e.g., L1 norm) minimization procedures can provide optimal and flexible (anytime) on-going representations, on-going signal segmentations into stationary intervals, and on-going feature extractions for immediate utilization in data transmission, communication, diagnostics, or other applications. The proposed technique may be advantageous in case of processing non-stationary signals when complete signal representations can be used only with serious limitations because of their relative weakness in adaptive matching of signal structures.

Several representatives of the NFC industry are expecting a market breakthrough based on recent developments in technology and standardization. Service providers and mobile operators around the world have already started or plan to start their own NFC trial operations to gain experience with the technology. The main obstacle to rapid market proliferation is that key stakeholders have so far failed to work out a business model that would be able to harmonize diverse interests and handle possible conflicts. The current paper introduces the NFC ecosystem and the efforts of the StoLPan consortium to combine the business process approach with their significant technology developments, addressing technical, usability, business and legal issues simultaneously. The technical frameworks will facilitate the deployment of NFC-enabled mobile applications in a dynamic service portfolio regardless of the handset type and the nature of the services required; while the analysis of the business aspects of NFC-based service development and the experiences from the trial services will create a basis to work out effective market penetration strategies for application providers and other stakeholders.

The transmission properties of optical links carrying subcarrier channels are strongly affected by fiber dispersion, fiber nonlinearity and reflections. An approach is presented here to reduce the chromatic dispersion-induced distortions. This new method is based on the interplay of the fiber nonlinearity and the intensity dependent phase modulation in the semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). Theoretical and experimental results are demonstrated for optical links with different length. The results show that the frequency notches caused by the dispersion-induced carrier suppression effect may be sharply alleviated and the transmitted digital signal performance can be improved.

In this paper, we consider QoS aware mesh networks that are maintained by multiple operators and they cooperate in the provision of networking services to the mesh clients. In order to support mobile users and seamless handover between the access points, the authentication delay has to be reduced. Many proposed fast authentication schemes rely on trust models that are not appropriate in multi-operator environment. Here, we propose two certificate based authentication schemes such that the authentication is performed locally between the access point and the mesh client. We consider both powerful and constraint mesh clients and we propose certificate sets to decrease the authentication latency. We compare our proof-of-concept implementation to current widely used authentication methods like EAP-TLS, and we conclude that our proposed authentication scheme is considerably faster in all considered scenarios.

The Thevenin equivalent representation is widely used in the harmonic distortion studies. For network representation it is necessary to use the driving point impedance in function of the frequency, which can be determined by computer simulation or site measurement. The authors are working on the modeling of penetration and elimination of harmonic disturbance originating from the high power railways. In order to improve the accuracy of calculations the double domain simulation method was introduced, which is a combination of frequency and time dependent modeling. The presented novel approximation of the frequency dependent network impedance results in a further improvement regarding the accuracy of the frequency domain simulation. In this paper the improved accuracy achieved using the proposed analytical approximation method is discussed on the example of a railway substation.

Model transformation is a crucial aspect of model-driven software development. With the help of model transformation, we can generate source code or other models from software models. However, a recurring problem in software development is the fact that source and target models coexist and they evolve independently. This means that after the initial transformation phase the target models are often changed by the developers and the target model will no longer be consistent with the source model. Therefore, the models need to be synchronized. Model transformation is one option to implement the synchronization process. However, it is very complex because the transformation has to recognize which elements should be updated and which elements should be left unaltered during synchronization. In addition, a clear backward transformation usually does not exist from the target to the source domain. In this paper, we present an algorithm that facilitates incremental model synchronization in model transformation systems. The feasibility of the approach is also illustrated by a real world case study; we synchronize user interfaces of different mobile platforms.

When building topic based document classifiers, feature selection is a key step: features not holding any information about the topic of a document introduce only unnecessary noise during the classification. In a distributed environment, when the nodes are interacting, the locally retrieved features and the their attributes must be shared to have at every node a more accurate estimation of the global classifier. When expanding the knowledge of the local classifiers, to reduce costs, the network traffic should be kept to a minimum. We propose a probabilistic model for a keyword selection method which makes a more thorough analysis possible and can be used as a baseline when sharing information in a distributed environment. It can be used for incrementally building up the distributed classifiers ensuring minimal network traffic. This model can be refined later on by sending more content-related information to achieve higher performance. This probabilistic model together with experimental results are presented in this paper.
