This paper shows a new way of overcoming the problem of phase noise in millimetre wave hybrid integrated oscillators. With the help of our technique, introduced in this paper, we can reach 3-8 dB phase noise reduction. Besides the phase noise characteristics improvement, the other fact that gives significance to our approach is that microwave designers can utilize it in their previously completed designs without need for reconfiguration of their original circuits. The validity of the presented technique is proven by calculations, simulation results and measurements.

Different types of discontinuous PWMs of multiphase inverter-fed ac motors are investigated from point of view of ac motor harmonic losses. The derived expressions for computation of the generalized loss-factors and its components are given for different phase number and for all the investigated PWM methods. It is shown that the discontinuous PWM of multiphase system cannot be as successful as that for the case of three-phase system. Therefore in comparison with continuous PWMs the discontinuous ones have no advantages in case of phase number more than 9. However, the stator harmonic current losses are slightly higher while the rotor harmonic current losses are considerably lower than those in case of three-phase system. At the same time for the phase number over 7 a sensible broadening of the linear voltage control region is impossible for any PWM method. The theoretical derived expressions for stator and rotor losses (derived for infinite value of switching frequency, MATCAD program) are checked by results of direct computation for a finite value of switching frequency (MATLAB program) as well by simulations.

In contrast to a plane-wave situation electromagnetic wave polarization is a 3-dimensional phenomenon in multipath scatter environments. Recently there is much research work done in order to utilize this fact in Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MIMO) wireless channels [1]. It was shown that with appropriate antenna arrangement increase in capacity can be as much as 6-fold in terrestrial rich scattering environments. In this paper satellite systems are investigated from this point of view. It is shown that it is hard to achieve an increase of capacity. However, diversity gain (or the order of diversity) can be increased and in principle diversity gain of 6 or more is possible while this gain is at most 4 in the 2D (i.e. plane wave) case. The paper focuses on the propagation aspects of a satellite-to-indoor propagation scenario and demonstrates by electromagnetic simulation that exploiting the 3D polarization can lead to considerably improved reception.

We present the computer aided diagnosis system being developed to help experts in screening mammography. It is a very important project because about 8% of women develop breast cancer in her lifetime therefore global screening is necessary. It means that reliable diagnosis of huge number of images must be solved. The basic architecture of the system and the information processing need is presented. One of the most important tasks in mammographic diagnosis systems is microcalcification detection. It is solved by a hierarchical neural architecture. The original suggestion of that structure was improved by two ways. The image features used as inputs to the neural networks were analyzed and the feature set was extended. The neural architecture was embedded in a neural ensemble context for improving the quality of the solution further. Results of the tests of that detection procedure show that the false detection ratios are acceptable

The introduction of UML class diagrams has not raised the abstraction level of development to the extent that was intended: class diagrams are only the visual representations of source class skeletons implemented in a programming language. To improve the productivity, domain-specific languages are applied, which cover a narrow domain, and their high abstraction makes use of the domain experts easier. The simultaneous evolution of the source code and the software models causes the loss of synchronization. Round-tripping the domain-specific models is not supported by model-driven development tools, because the abstraction gap between the models and the generated code prevents the use of general approaches. However, developers should have the opportunity of choosing between the artifacts that are more efficient for applying the modifications. This paper introduces how different tools achieve the preservation of manually written code while the model is evolving. In contrast, we present our approach that allows the customization of the generated code. The abstraction gap is closed by performing model transformations and an incremental merge.

A long thinking process leads from the first idea to a well-organized and curriculum based course program. This process has outstanding importance where theoretical, methodological, and practical issues must be considered and coordinated as in the case of higher education for engineering. This paper makes an attempt to emphasize some of the critical elements in this process in order to analyze possibilities for the application of recent computer modeling techniques in planning and application of course programs. In this paper, background and essential issues are outlined in order to introduce the problem. Following this, improved higher education program features are revealed and organized considering resources, environment, as well as decisions on course elements and characteristics. In the rest of the paper, organization of a course by a new application of tracks and modules as well as a new concept of course feature driven module are explained. Practice aspect of model based course development is emphasized in the reported work.

Safety is a major concern in many complex robotized systems especially when the task implies collaboration between human and robot with the workspace sharing. In this research a theoretical representation of the integrated safety monitoring system is introduced. The monitoring system is modeled as a separated unit which decision making mechanism is based on the safety expert system (SES) data analysis and the danger index approach, and which operation relies on the safety related algorithms associated with four human-robot interaction levels. A new scale of the injury severity and likelihood for a HRI domain is proposed and the concept is integrated into the safety modes control algorithm. The case study analysis is modeled by means of the united modeling (UML) and the Visual C# Edition software(s).

The development of wireless broadband terrestrial services are increasing the amount of transferred data, therefore the demand for new frequency bands, higher transmission speed or capacity is an actual problem. One of the possible solutions for this problem is the application of higher frequencies, for example the E-band. Point-to-point wireless devices are already available to transmit digital data even with Gbit/s speed. In order to fulfil the high availability requirements in mobile backhaul networks or other broadband solutions where these devices are applied, the propagation conditions are playing an important role. The atmospheric and the rain attenuation are the most important factors, besides the interference with other E-band devices, but the latter is not examined in this study. Our goal is to summarize the experiences in the field of E-band propagation. Nearly three years of measured data are available on 72.56 GHz in urban environment; attenuation and availability statistics and the measured rain intensity data are comparable. According to the measurements we provide empirical forms to approximate the attenuation statistics in the E-band, furthermore some design considerations will be also introduced to build up short range-few kilometres length-of radio connections with specific availability requirements.

In this paper a new low cost design is presented. The moving element of the probe head consists of the stylus and a crossform intermediate body with a small aluminium enhanced mirror at the two ends and at the center. The intermediate body is suspended on four springs made of berillium-copper foils. The displacement of the probe tip is calculated from the displacement and the rotations of the mirrors measured by modified optical pick-ups. In order to test probes a calibration system with 20 nm measuring uncertainty was designed. A high precision three-axis translation stage, with a working range of 100 times 100 times 100 mum, moves the probe stylus and the position of the stage is determined by three mutually-orthogonal plane mirror laser interferometer transducers having 1 nm resolution.

With the introduction and popularity of wireless devices, the diversity of the platforms has also been increased. There are different platforms and tools from different vendors such as Microsoft, Sun, Nokia, SonyEricsson and many more. Because of the relatively low-level programming interface, software development for Symbian platform is a tiresome and error prone task, whereas .NET CF contains higher level structures. This paper introduces the problem of the software development for incompatible mobile platforms, moreover, it provides a model-driven architecture (MDA) and Domain Specific Modeling Language (DSML)-based solution. We also discuss the relevance of the model-based approach that facilitates a more efficient software development, because the reuse and the generative techniques are key characteristics of model-based computing. In the presented approach, the platform-independence lies in the graph rewriting-driven visual model transformation. This paper illustrates the creation of model compilers on a metamodeling basis by a software package called Visual Modeling and Transformation System (VMTS), which is an n-layer multipurpose modeling and metamodel-based transformation system. A case study is also presented how model compilers can be used to generate user interface handler code for different mobile platforms from the same platform-independent input models
