Molecular beam epitaxially grown fullerene layers are investigated with the help of image processing. The layered structures are studied in morphological respect. The individual layer morphologies are derived from the atomic force microscopy picture of the surface. The pattern morphology of the certain layers is analysed by box counting method. The surface morphology shows fractal behaviour. The pattern of each layer shows different dimension. The actual dimension depends on the actual distance of the layer from the substrate. The change of the dimension is attributed to the change of the binding behaviour. The topology of the surface is also studied using participation ratio and structural entropy calculations.

The present paper describes the engineering conceptual design of the optical labyrinth and the first and second mirror mounts of the ITER core LIDAR diagnostics. The optical labyrinth, being in a very sensitive location close and open to the plasma, has been examined carefully to be able to provide different solutions satisfying the needs of the diagnostics. Therefore the conceptual design considered the covering of the light path, the integration of the labyrinth into the port plug as well as the shape, color and material of the labyrinth inner surface to be able to handle the undesirable phenomena of scattered light and sputtered particles reaching the mirroring surface. Nevertheless, cooling/ baking has also been considered and appropriate solutions presented. Regarding the mirror mounts, concepts have been created. It has been identified, that the mirrors must be conditioned at a certain temperature, therefore cooling/ baking options were developed. The cooling/ baking and especially the neutron absorption functions were detected to be essential for the extension tubes. The development basically focused on the different installation methods of the neutron shielding plates in a way to be also able to provide the tubes kept in the required temperature range. The result of the development was that a water-steel mixture varied through the length of the extension tubes could provide the maximum neutron shielding, hence satisfying the very strict requirement of 6 orders of magnitude neutron absorption required to maintain the post operation safety. The conceptual engineering design has been supported by preliminary thermal analysis of the mirror extension tubes.

The paper discusses formulas and interpretations of the fine structure constant (FSC) and the Number Archetype 137 taking into account of our earlier results and the concept of the “undetached observer” of Pauli. A new “controlling-.observing equation” is proposed for the reinterpretation of FSC and other Number Archetypes on the basis of Hermeneutics found in W. Pauli and C. G. Jung “Correspondence”.

The target of this paper is to propose a hybrid combination of the three main branches of Computational Intelligence, namely Fuzzy Systems, Neural Networks and Evolutionary Computing. The function approximation properties of fuzzy J-K and D flip-flops based feedforward neural network optimized and trained with a novel evolutionary algorithm based technique; the Bacterial Memetic Algorithm with Modified Operator Execution Order (BMAM) is studied.

Although all three conventional c-means clustering algorithms, namely hard c-means (HCM), fuzzy c-means (FCM), and possibilistic c-means (PCM), had their merits in the development of clustering theory, none of them are generally good solutions for unsupervised classification. Several hybrid solutions have been proposed to produce mixture algorithms. Possibilistic-fuzzy hybrids generally attempt to get rid of the FCM's sensitivity to outliers and PCM's coincident cluster prototypes, while hard-fuzzy mixtures usually aim at quicker convergence while preserving FCM's accurate partitions. This paper presents a unifying approach to c-means clustering: the novel clustering model is considered as a linear combination of the FCM, PCM, and HCM objective functions. The optimal solution is obtained via evolutionary computation. Our main goal is to reveal the properties of such mixtures and to formulate some rules that yield accurate partitions.

The main contribution of this paper to develop a mathematical model which describes the movement of a piston of pneumatic cylinder controlled by a proportional valve, keeping the non linear behavior of pneumatic system. The paper considers a railway timetable related problem in a simplified form, generated by the delay of one or several incoming trains at a given station. These incoming train delays are either automatically generated or manually entered. Usually there are connecting trains in the timetable, especially in up to date periodic timetables and thus incoming delays might indicate the necessity of introducing a delay with connecting outgoing trains. A hierarchical fuzzy rule base is applied in order to determine the optimal outgoing delay, taking also usual restrictions into consideration. The delays of the incoming trains are modeled by independent exponential distributions and a software simulation is built around the existing rule base. The behavior of the hierarchical fuzzy rule base and the pertinence of the outgoing delay is a subject of further investigation. The delays are also updated periodically that makes the recalculation of outgoing delays necessary from time to time.

We introduce cooperative fast protection (CFP) as a novel protection scheme in WDM networks. CFP achieves capacity-efficient fast protection with the features of node-autonomy and failure-independency. It differs from p-cycle by reusing the released working capacity of the disrupted lightpaths (i.e. stubs) in a cooperative manner. This is achieved by allowing all the failure-aware nodes to switch the traffic, such that the disrupted lightpaths can be protected even if the end nodes of the failed link are not on the protecting cycles. CFP also differs from FIPP p-cycle by not requiring the source node of the disrupted lightpath on the protecting cycle. By jointly optimizing both working and spare capacity placement, we formulate an ILP for CFP design. Numerical results show that CFP significantly outperforms p-cycle by achieving faster protection with much higher capacity efficiency.

An extension of the pairwise comparison matrix is considered when some comparisons are missing. A generalization of the eigenvector method for the incomplete case is introduced and discussed as well as the Logarithmic Least Squares Method. The uniqueness problem regarding both weighting methods is studied through the graph representation of pairwise comparison matrices. It is shown that the optimal completion/solution is unique if and only if the graph associated with the incomplete pairwise comparison matrix is connected. An algorithm is proposed for solving the eigenvalue minimization problem related to the generalization of the eigenvector method in the incomplete case. Numerical examples are presented for illustration of the methods discussed in the paper.

This paper presents a patient specific deformable heart model that involves the known electric and mechanic properties of the cardiac cells and tissue. The accuracy and efficiency of the algorithm was tested for anisotropic and inhomogeneous 3D domains using ten Tusscher's and Nygen's cardiac cell models. During propagation of depolarization wave, the kinetic, compositional and rotational anisotropy is included in the tissue, organ and torso model. The applied patient specific parameters were determined by an evolutionary computation method. An intensive parameter reduction was performed using the abstract formulation of the searching space. This patient specific parameter representation enables the adjustment of deformable model parameters in real-time. The validation process was performed using measured ECG and ultrasound image records that were compared with simulated signals and shapes using an abstract, parameterized evaluation criterion.
