Superflexible robot programming reduces the profitable batch sizes of industrial robots. The paper presents a new way to determine the trajectory for welding robots based on the Intelligent Space concept. The system uses two cameras and edge detection with other image processing algorithms to find the welding path in the image. The three dimensional trajectory is obtained by stereo vision; afterwards it is transformed to the actual robot language.

Both the modern environmental monitoring and the home automation applications require new tailor made humidity sensor solutions. A significant group of humidity sensors is based on the property changes of porous thick and thin films. Capacitive sensors make use of the dielectric property changes of such films upon water vapor uptake which depends on the surrounding media's relative humidity content. However as the water molecules enter the porous layer beside the dielectric constant the thermal conductivity of the layer changes as well. Thermal transient testing, a well known technique for thermal characterization of IC packages can be a suitable method for detecting humidity changes this way. In the paper this measuring technique is evaluated. Experiments were done on an appropriate sensor structure at different environments and relative humidity levels. Based on the results, a new method for humidity sensing is introduced.

The development of hardware and software of low end mobile phones and even simple media players will increasingly allow different type of content to be consumed on them creating pressure for efficient ways to also access the content. Since efficient, scalable distribution of multimedia content is a key strength of peer-to-peer technologies, bringing that technology to the player devices seems attractive. This way low end devices would be able to join and cooperate in an existing peer-to-peer network. The paper introduces a complete J2ME based BitTorrent solution for mainstream phones, called MobTorrent which supports both downloading and uploading. We analyze the key elements of MobTorrent and introduce issues related to the limited capabilities of low end devices. The performance of the complete application is evaluated by speed measurements. In general handheld devices have small batteries, thus the energy consumption is a key property of applications on low end devices. The paper also discusses the possibility of implementing Bluetooth based local cooperation in MobTorrent and the key factors of how to bring peer-to-peer technology to simple media player devices.

Recently, the importance of information enhancement methods in digital image processing has increased significantly. A large amount of research has been focused on information retrieval and image understanding. Typical examples are searching for similar objects/images in large databases and understanding the objects in images. The main point of these tasks is to extract the most characteristic features of the objects in the images, like edges, corners, characteristic textures, etc. Another very important aspect can be the separation of the ldquosignificantrdquo and ldquounimportantrdquo parts of these features, i.e. the enhancement of those features which carry primary information and to filter out the part which represents information of minor importance. By this, the complexity of the searching and/or interpreting algorithms can be decreased while the performance increased. This paper describes a new edge processing method which is able to extract the ldquoprimaryrdquo, i.e. those edges which can advantageously be used in sketch based image retrieval algorithms.

In the field of application specific ICs the FPGA became more and more important. When such a system is under construction the designer has very few information about the final dissipation of the circuit. The solution should be a power model which can give prediction about the final dissipation of the particular functionality of the FPGA device. In this paper methods are described for power modeling and power-aware designing.

This paper is the second presented in this conference dealing with permanent magnet synchronous machine model identification. Main purpose of the research introduced in this paper, besides to introduce a new parameter estimation method, was to investigate the cost function properties. Understanding shape and behaviour of the cost function helps the authors to select the appropriate identification technique for identifying a permanent magnet synchronous machine model. Understanding the cost function properties is also useful to know how these identification algorithms can be improved and adopted to this special problem. In this paper, a brute force technique is used which evaluates the cost function of the model parameter identification using a four dimensional grid of parameters and then, depending on the location of the cost function minimal value, adjusting the grid resolution and moving the center position of the grid in every iteration step.

In this paper, we present a general purpose discrete event simulation framework for domain-specific visual languages describing system behavior. In our framework, the dynamic semantics of the language is captured by a combination of graph transformation and abstract state machine rules as provided by the model transformation language of VIATRA2, which allows to capture complex model changes at each simulation step. For an efficient execution of the simulation, incremental graph pattern matching is used to avoid the re-computation of enabledness conditions of simulation rules by incrementally keeping track of rule contexts.

In this paper we propose a simple enhancement to TCP (called TCP Limit) which significantly improves the utilization, delay, and jitter characteristics of standard TCP versions. TCP Limit requires only a small sender-side modification and can be applied on top of any TCP versions. Its main advantage is that it can be multiplexed with non-elastic streaming traffic without any router or protocol support. TCP Limit avoids the undesired effect of oscillation and keeps the delay and jitter as low as possible; so it does not ruin the performance of streaming applications. In the paper we present the initial performance evaluation of the proposed TCP Limit carried out by simulation and measurement. Analytical calculations are also included.

This paper proposes a method that integrates goals and scenarios modeling techniques into system project planning and scheduling. The increasing strategic importance of IT demands that system requirements need to be integrated with managerial methods, processes and tools to support their alignment with business objectives. Despite, both requirements engineering (RE) and project management (PM) lay emphasis on the importance of effort estimation, project planning, and scheduling, their applied methods and tools are imprecise and require significant manual efforts. A case study of its application and evaluation demonstrated that the method can significantly accelerate project scheduling production (>50%) and project realization (>10%) through automated schedule production.

This paper deals with the queueing analysis of IP networks carrying streaming traffic. The main focus of the analysis is the jitter which is a widely used performance characteristic of that type of traffic. The study is carried out by a novel technique using Quasi-Birth-Death processes in a matrix-geometric approach. Our method calculates network performance descriptors such as the transient queue length and the jitter characteristics in the case of correlated batch arrivals and Phase-type service times. The method is demonstrated by several numerical examples that are also compared to simulation results. A jitter measurement-based utilisation estimation method is also presented as an application of our results.
