Metamodeling techniques have become the subject of research in the last decades. Different approaches of software development emphasize the use of models at all phases of the design and implementation. With metamodels, we can define the concepts of models in concrete domains. Model transformations are used to convert models to other ones. To define rules of transformations, we need to declare, which part of the input models has to be converted. By means of metamodels we can define more complex structures to be matched. In this case we need to find an instance of the defined metamodel in the input graph. The efficiency of the matching algorithms is critical during the application of model transformations. In this paper, a matching algorithm is presented that is able to find all instances of metamodels in arbitrary input models.

A novel method is presented to reduce the 2 nd harmonic level in low cost radios with balanced output configuration. The common mode- which is usually dominant at the 2 nd harmonic frequency in differential configurations- is suppresed by a resonant trap which has no influence on the fundamental operation. The trap is applicable for differential antennas, baluns and matching networks and partly formed by them to minimize the cost. A novel matching balun circuit is also proposed for low cost ISM radio chips. With the 2 nd harmonic trap the experiments showed ~12 dB 2 nd harmonic suppression improvement at 434 MHz using standard E21 0603 SMD elements. The new method was also demonstrated to be successful with printed loop antennas.

Future broadband services will utilize millimeter-wave optical links. However, they can be distorted by fiber dispersion. We present an approach to reduce the chromatic dispersion-induced distortions in optical links carrying combined baseband and millimeter wave signals. This new method is based on the interplay of intensity dependent phase modulation in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) and fiber nonlinearities. Theoretical and experimental results are presented for optical links with different length. The results show that the frequency notches caused by the dispersion-induced carrier suppression effect may be sharply alleviated and the transmitted digital signal performance can be improved.

The main steps for characterization and measurement of microwave absorbent materials in the 1-10 GHz range is introduced. The coaxial reflection-transmission type of material parameter measurement is analyzed in detail and the main measurement error is corrected. The microscopic material particle parameter measurement concept is also presented using different mixing rule laws to determine the material parameters of the single particles from the macroscopic parameters. Two dimensional FDTD simulations have been used to model the behavior of mixed electric and magnetic type of material.

Thermal measurement of simple components (transistors, diodes) is a well-defined task. However, power steps applied on complex structures such as smart-power devices, RAM modules or voltage regulators cause electric transients in the millisecond order. As an interesting portion of thermal transients characterising the die attach quality of the chips lies in the mus range, proper measurement techniques have to be elaborated. In this paper we discuss measurement of monolithic integrated circuits, boards, subsystems and appliances with deep insight into structural details.

The paper deals with the quick prototype design and hardware-in-the-loop real-time test of the embedded control system of an indoor miniature quadrotor helicopter (UAV) before first flight. The control law is of backstepping type, the sensory system consists of a marker-based vision system outside the helicopter in radio connection with the embedded controller and a 3D inertial measurement unit (IMU) on the helicopter. Extended Kalman filters solve the state estimation problem. Brushless DC motors serve as actuators. For quick prototype design of the embedded controller MATLAB, Simulink, Real-Time Workshop and the MPC555 Target Compiler were used. Because of the critical character of the control of flying systems the whole embedded control system was hardware-in-the-loop tested by using DS1103 of dSPACE for real-time emulation of the indoor helicopter. During test the helicopter and the sensors were mapped to DS1103 and the test was performed in real-time using the helicopter and sensor models. Communication during the test was running using CAN bus protocol between the Freescale MPC555 processor of the embedded controller and the emulation of the helicopter and the sensors on DS1103.

Supporting real-time data transport in highly dynamic conditions, which arise in wireless and mobile ad hoc networks is challenging. The significant variations in link bandwidth and latency undermine the quality of real-time applications by introducing congestion and delay jitters. For such applications data is only useful before its lifetime expires. In this paper we investigate a staleness-aware mechanism for realtime multimedia flows, where the system can decide if the respective frame is eligible or not for transmission, namely, if it can be entirely transmitted before its lifetime expires. A mathematical model and analysis is presented, where the partial and complete frame discarding staleness-aware techniques are compared. Then the Burst Transfer Eligibility Decision (BTED) mechanism, a concrete staleness-aware solution for WPANs is introduced. In order to have a deeper understanding of staleness-aware mechanisms, simulation analysis is also presented. We show that complete frame discarding presents better results than the partial rejection in terms of several performance metrics.

In this paper some novel unicast protocols are developed for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) in order to ensure reliable packet transmission and maximize the lifespan at the same time. The optimal transmission energies and the optimal numbers for repeated packet transfers are derived which guarantee that the packets are received by the base station (BS) with a given probability, subject to achieving the longest possible lifespan. These protocols can be applied in biomedical applications where energy consumption and longevity are of crucial importance. The optimization has been carried out for the chain protocol (when nodes are forwarding the packets toward the BS via the neighbouring nodes) and for the shortcut type of protocols (when packet is handed down to neighbours in the chain until on certain node it gets transmitted directly to the BS). The reliability of information transfer is enhanced by repeated low-energy packet transmissions. The new results have been tested by extensive simulations which also demonstrated that the lifespan of WSN can significantly be increased by the new unicast protocols.

Model transformation is a focused area in model-driven software development. With the help of model transformations we can generate source code, other models and documentation from the source models. During the development, a recurring problem is that the source and target artifacts coexist and they evolve independently. This means that after the transformation the target artifacts can be changed by the developer. The problem in this case is that the target artifact will not be consistent with the source model. One option to maintain consistency is by synchronizing our artifacts with model transformation. With the help of synchronization, the developer can work on each artifact, because they are consistent. However the synchronization can be quite complex and cannot be applied in many cases. Usually the inverse transformation does not exist, or it cannot be determined uniquely. This paper presents how we can track the modifications of the transformation, and how we can use this information in the synchronization process.
