The determination of the frequencies of a multisine signal can be very important at different signal processing tasks, like vibration measurements and active noise control related to rotating machinery and calibration equipment. Adaptive Fourier Analyzers have been developed for measuring periodic signals with unknown or changing fundamental frequency. Higher frequency applications have limitations since the computational complexity of these analyzers are relatively high as the number of harmonic components to be measured (or suppressed) is usually above 50. Recently, a fast-filter bank structure has been proposed for Adaptive Fourier Analysis based on the combination of the concept of transform domain signal processing and the adaptation of a simple linear combiner. It results in the reduction of the above computational complexity, however for the correct use we have to have pre-estimation about the range of the fundamental frequency to be able to set the applied single-input multiple-output filter-banks, which in many cases causes significant and possibly non-tolerable delay in the operation. In this paper, a new fast fuzzy logic supported anytime frequency range estimation procedure is proposed which makes possible to execute the frequency estimation after one quarter of the period of the unknown signal, i.e. the adaptation and Fourier Analysis can be performed without any delay.

Three slip controllers are designed and implemented on an anti-lock braking system (ABS), a PI controller, one SISO fuzzy controller without dynamics and a PI-fuzzy one. The system is highly nonlinear. The design approaches are based on system modeling and identification and knowledge from experiments. The controllers are based on the local linearization of the controlled plant and the use of fuzzy control in terms of the modal equivalence principle. The simplicity of design and implementation is highlighted by real-time experiments.

In recent publications concerning quality of service (QoS) measures in communication networks several attempts have been made to improve the techniques of computing or estimating the quality of data transfer. Many of the promising results are based on the knowledge of only very few parameters on the traffic situation, some of which are known a priory, others are measured. The paper deals with such parsimonious estimation techniques of QoS measures under the bufferless fluid flow multiplexing (bffm) framework, and concentrates on the efficient computation of them. The proposed fixed-point recursive algorithms are actively used to put the implicit formulae or ones containing optimization tasks into real-time environment.

In this paper, we present the functionality mapping model that is used in the CASCADAS ACE model: external code libraries are transformed into services of an autonomic element. CASACDAS is an EU 6 th Framework IST-FET project in the field of situated, autonomic communication; various research topics are organized around a common abstraction called Autonomic Communication Element (ACE). When designing this common abstraction, a big challenge is to define a natural, non-complex but flexible and expressive way for transforming existing code (libraries) into autonomic services of an ACE. In this paper, we introduce, explain, and discuss the developed model, and compare them with existing functionality mapping technologies.

The paper presents some recent trends in TIM material development, and outlines the state of the art in testing interface thermal resistance values. After presenting the trends in TIM material development first the available experimental techniques are presented shortly, and then the currently available industrial methods are discussed with more details. The paper finally presents some promising developments in finding better resolution high throughput methods to solve the challenging problem of measuring very small thermal resistance values in electronics applications.

This paper reports advances in model based machine torque estimation used in electronic power assisted steering systems. Using machine input voltages the permanent magnet synchronous machine internal states and the output torque can be estimated. This technique can be used to detect machine failures and also can be used to verify the failure of the machine current measurement sensors.

The paper presents the testbed of a novel network architecture which aims at providing streaming media services in a heterogeneous environment where the subscribers are roaming among different wired/wireless access networks including ADSL, WiFi, 2.5G and 3G cellular and WiMAX. The architecture provides seamless connectivity during roaming, with adapting the quality of the delivered media stream to the changes of the network characteristics and to the capabilities of a wide variety of devices. The paper presents general design considerations, focuses on a novel vertical handover mechanism, its implementation and evaluation in the testbed, as well as discusses media processing aspects. The different subsystems are currently being integrated into a single testbed which will provide an open environment for experimentation and will be suitable for technology transfer to network service providers and content providers.

This paper investigates mobility management strategies from the point of view of their need of signalling and processing resources on the backbone network and load on the air interface. A method is proposed to model the serving network and mobile node mobility in order to be able to model the different types of mobility management algorithms. To obtain a good description of the network we calculate parameters from given topologies that we think are the most important ones. Mobility approaches derived from existing protocols and other, possible mobility scenarios are analyzed and their performance is numerically compared in various network and mobility scenarios. The aim is to give general designing guidelines for the next generation mobility managements on given network and mobility properties.
