A new algorithm has been developed for the layout based direct electro-thermal simulation of integrated circuits. The advantage of the direct electro-thermal simulation over simulator coupling is, that very fast changes can also be considered, the drawback is that the thermal nodes are added to the number of nodes of the network to be simulated. The novelties of our method are the modeling and the solution of the thermal structure. This paper presents the algorithm of the time constant spectrum based FOSTER chain matrix thermal modeling, and the new algorithm of the coupled electro-thermal solution, where parts of the network, which represent the thermal behavior, are not computed in all steps of the iteration. This speeded up algorithm works both in the time-, and in the frequency domain. A simulation example demonstrates a typical application: the prediction of how the layout arrangement and the packaging of an analogue integrated circuit influence the electrical parameters.

High number of approaches and methods has been developed in the course of attempts to establish higher education programs on the Internet. The most frequent difficulties emerge from not enough systematic descriptions and restriction of implementation of the teaching and learning processes to administrative methods. Although, application methods from object modeling are promising, appropriate representations of related objects and their implementation in real teaching and learning environments are still under development. In this paper, the authors discuss some practice oriented aspects of object modeling based course description. They evaluate recent methods and propose implementation principles and practice. Cooperating functions for structured course, matching demands and description, possibilities for supporting customization of course model, and integration of course development and handling functionalities with engineering environments are issues in the organization of the paper.

This paper introduces some new analysis results by the authors in possibilities for introduction of virtual methods based higher education courses in teaching and learning practice. They evaluated some recently published modeling methods considering the fact that the demand for e-learning in engineering is generated by frequent and substantial changes of industrial technology that require lifetime learning while the time for education is very short. In the paper, characteristics of course models are outlined and evaluated for teaching and learning in virtual environment. Following this, key issues are discussed for modeling of courses and application of course models. In the rest of the paper demand driven constraints, and details about content of course model are considered.

This paper investigates mobility management strategies from the point of view of their need of signalling and processing resources on the backbone network and load on the air interface. A method is proposed to model the serving network and mobile node mobility in order to be able to model the different types of mobility management algorithms. To obtain a good description of the network we calculate parameters from given topologies that we think are the most important ones. Mobility approaches derived from existing protocols and other, possible mobility scenarios are analyzed and their performance is numerically compared in various network and mobility scenarios. The aim is to give general designing guidelines for the next generation mobility managements on given network and mobility properties.

Most Graphical User Interface (GUI) frameworks offer layout managers that are commonly based on tabular arrangement. We introduce few wide-spread layout approaches and discuss their specialties. Furthermore, we investigate the state of the art research results on the field of automatic GUI layout. Based on the lessons learned from the existing layout solutions we introduce the main points of a new layout approach. This approach addresses the field of online magazines and focuses on tablet devices and horizontal scrolling. In order to make the layout specification intuitive, we hide layout-related mathematical formalisms from end users. We offer a template-based column layout solution that is supported with a high-level, editor friendly language. The high-level layout rules are automatically transformed into formal rules that are enforced during the layout calculation. The central concept of the approach is that beside the layout specification the actual content drives the final layout.

The next generation of intelligent systems provides information processing, retrieval and transfer services for an arbitrary number of users in a transparent way. The structure of large networks is dynamically changing because of failures and modifications. Besides, it must support user mobility as well. The information to be handled extends beyond the traditional fixed type precise and deterministic information, approximating the ones used in natural languages. Such a system cannot be handled by the classical models. The intelligent system can be modelled as having logical, temporal and topological structures together with operations on these structures. The architecture proposed is based on the demand driven information processing model with static or dynamic task allocation over inhomogeneous or homogeneous resource types and network structures. The processing nodes may employ any mix of the four basic information processing models (control, data, demand and information driven models). Introducing a model time as a partially ordered set of events, an evolutionary system can be considered, both in its capabilities and structure. The services of the intelligent system are provided by intelligent mobile agents.

Solar power is a promising source of energy to use for base stations in mobile networks in order to make telecommunication systems environmentally friendly. Solar energy is an economic and ecological source to supply mobile base stations, although its efficiency is depending on geographical location and the continuously changing weather conditions. In this paper new methods are introduced to calibrate solar cells and improve the availability of base stations by controlling consumption and energy storage. The developed power management algorithms can help to improve reliability of mobile services and provide acceptable quality of services for the customers.

This paper shows testing equipment specially developed for electrical power system of pico-satellites. The equipment enables to verify the correct functioning of maximal power point tracker circuits emulating the power input of the solar cell arrays and the determination of the power balance. The development of the device was largely based on the design of Masat-1 picosatellite. The paper shows the properties of the solar cell arrays to be emulated, the concrete realization of the tester, and its functioning illustrated by measurement results.

This paper summarizes the results of research tasks in the field of physiological modeling and control of diseases with high public health impact carried out by the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory of the budapest university of technology and economics. The developed and presented optimal algorithms and strategies focus on three diseases with high public health impact diabetes (the question of artificial pancreas), obesity (predicting obesity-related risks) and cancer (antiangiogenic chemotherapy). The studies are done together with different Hungarian hospitals, from where measurement data were obtained.
