This paper introduces a method to model the rapid attenuation fluctuations (the scintillation) on satellite links with generating the time series of attenuation levels. The applied model is a hidden Markov model which is parameterized from an appropriate filtered Gaussian white noise signal. For the parameterization of the Markov chain the Baum-Welch expectation-maximization algorithm has been used. The resulting Markov model is applicable to generate scintillation time series for any desired duration with the time and amplitude resolution of the original training data. From the synthesized time series the statistical properties like the cumulative distribution and the dynamics of the scintillation can be also determined. To prove the accuracy of the model at first the cumulative distribution function of the original and synthesized time series are compared. A further test of the model validity is the comparison with real scintillation measurement on a land mobile satellite link. Finally, the spectral test of the filtered Gaussian model, the hidden Markov model and the satellite link measurement shows that the constant and decreasing parts in the periodograms are showing similarities what confirms the good quality of the model.

A flat mounting unit with electronically variable thermal resistance has been presented in the last year. The design was based on a Peltier cell and the appropriate control electronics and software. The device is devoted especially to the thermal characterization of packages, e.g. in dual cold plate arrangements. Although this design meets the requirements of the static measurement we are intended to improve its parameters as the settling time and dynamic thermal impedance and the range of realized thermal resistance. The new design applies the heat flux sensor developed by our team as well, making easier the control of the device. This development allows even the realization of negative thermal resistances.

In our previous works an N-state Markov chain model was used to generate a rain attenuation time series [1,2,3,4]. The model is applicable for predicting the first and second order statistics of attenuation on a proposed microwave link in the planning phase. The model parameters were derived from fade slope statistics of measured attenuation. The novelty of this work is investigating the correlation angle dependency of the generated time series.

The paper presents the combination of frequency and time dependent model to simulate the effects of the power electric traction on the supply network. This novel method, called double domain simulation is improving the accuracy of the frequency domain simulation. To calculate the sophisticated model of the electric locomotive as a non-linear load a time dependent model must be used. The traction supply system together with the equivalent supply network impedance could be calculated in frequency domain. An iteration algorithm is developed converting the variables in every iteration step between the time and frequency domain.

Since the migrative property excludes both idempotent and nilpotent classes, the characterization and construction is carried out by solving a functional equation for additive generators of strict t-norms. A simple on-line procedure is considered for the prediction of a binary-valued sequence in the setup introduced and studied by Weissman and Merhav [2001], [2004], where only side information is available for the algorithm. The (non-randomized) algorithm is based on a convex combination of several simple predictors. If the side information is also binary-valued (i.e. original sequence is corrupted by a binary sequence) and both processes are realizations of stationary and ergodic random processes then the average of the loss converges, almost surely, to that of the optimum, given by the Bayes predictor. An analog result is offered for the classification of binary processes.
